Fancies were fleeting just as feelings, and passions grew and wilted faster than winter's approach. Astra suddenly found herself bored to tears the moment December hit. A passionate youth such as herself should have no trouble amusing herself with the novelties of magical life. Her problem was not lack of activities, but rather lack of new activities. People watching, an activity formerly lent upon in dire hours such as these, was hard now. Once noticed, which was not very hard given her rather bright coloration and relative notoriety, it was nigh on impossible to melt back into the shadows away from hard and unforgiving eyes. So thus Astra kept to herself far more often than not especially when compared to her first year of personal exploration. Her network truly only consisted of her brother, Piérre whom she clung to almost parasitically, and her kindred spirit Mahlioz. She still didn't entirely know where she stood with others, and she wasn't sure she wanted to most days. Her violin stared sadly at her from the corner of her dormitory, but the sheet music blurred if she looked at it for more than a minute, and the same went for piano. Unsurprisingly, she'd read all the books she'd brought with her. And though the pursuit of knowledge was endless, words blurred together, too.
Thus, the viper had decided to use her time in what many could and indeed would consider a meaningless way: testing the radius of the Cascading Jinx. Throughout the room, objects of little importance that could be fixed with Reparo quite simply were strewn: pens, pieces of paper, candies she didn't quite like. Astra called Hermes safely behind her before fixing her aim on a chair she'd set on one of the desks. "Alrighty, here goes. Ingens Explosiones!" Let the sparks fly, baby.

Astra threw her arms over her head and ducked down. Items went flying in a shower of sparks. The second year student peeked through the fiery hair in her face and surveyed the destruction. "Hm. Not half bad." It had a decent radius. She reached to her side for a notepad and pen to begin formal observations.
"Tarantallegra!" The incantation flew totally out of left field straight at Astra. She should've been quicker to react, but the spell had caught her off-guard, and now she was dancing some sort of salsa she thought. Maybe. Astra wasn't well versed in dance.
"Jesus, what- finite incantatem!" Her shield shape was wobbly, but it did the trick and her legs ceased moving on their own accord. Astra righted herself, sneakered feet finding balance after a quick scrabble across the stone floor. She brushed non-existent dust off her green jumper and her gaze settled on the dainty figure from which the spell had come. Like a furious porcelain doll with a thin black wand raised, clutched in an offensive grip, the blonde girl stood. To Astra, the girl was unfamiliar. "Now what have I done to piss you off?" Not that Astra was well-liked by any means, but that the "attacks of vengeance" had ceased by October and now her quarrels were on a matter of personal anger, inconvenience, displeasure, et cetera.
From the girl to her general surroundings Astra's focus shifted as she reached for her notepad once more, and there she found the object of the other's offense. "Oh, did that pen hit you? Sorry. Wasn't expecting company." Wasn't much more to say. She recorded her first observation, the location and condition a plastic chess bishop which had somehow found it's way out of the set at the local library and into her backpack on one of her many trips there over the years. A thought occurred to her. She looked up from the bishop. "It wasn't uncapped or broken, was it? Hasn't stained your sleeve?"
