So much time passed since Linda was here last time. She sighed, realizing how much she was changing. Only in her first year she spent most of the time reading. Her previous year she almost stopped it. This year, however, she was trying to know more about two completely different things: Dark Arts and Healing. Today she came for the later. She needed to learn more about healing and hoped to find something here.
Linda walked in and went straight to the necessary part of the library. Curiosity was in her eyes as she searched for a book to read today. She already knew something about healing, but it was never enough to learn something new. She had to improve. She had to be ready to help. Linda had her friends and a boy. He was supposed to be her love, or at least she felt so. And she felt so worried about him that time. Linda had to know more. She had to know what she could do if needed.
Finally finding a book that looked interesting and quite promising, Linda made her way to the seats. Taking one she opened the book and started to study it quietly. She was so immersed in reading that she wouldn't notice if someone sat near her. Unless they'd address her. This sounds good. I should try it next healing practice. She said quietly, not wishing to disturb anyone in the library.

healing? could you tell me more? • threadPlenty of different things crowded Ophelia's brain today. The young Ravenclaw's mind bore the pains of many different paths of thinking, from homework, to her little Dove, to her plans for... well, everything. All winter break, and the months before, she'd been stressing over so much, and the invisible pressures that ate at her, she didn't know what they were, truly, just that she needed them to go.
The library had a more than decent track record of calming her down, of letting her relax with some of her favourite volumes and novels, traveling to labs or make-believe societies. There was much one could learn in a dusty pages of a book friend, even in Hogwarts' magical-based selections, and Ophelia intended to use today as a detox.
Searching the shelves with no expectations for the book that she was to pick up, Ophelia ended up picking up a little pocketbook sort of thing on herbs, plants, and edible fungi along with their medicinal properties. Having never really delved into such a subject before, she decided it was a worthy read and made her way over to one of the libary's tables. There were others there, and while in her first year she would've opted for a more secluded spot, the other students didn't bother so very much anymore.
Ophelia began her journey into her book, only to stop short several times because of unfamiliar wording. She was used to scientific jargon, always being an avid reader of biological science in the Muggle world, but this... this was different. She looked over to find someone sitting next to her, an older year. She, too, held a book on healing. With the way she read intently, Ophelia assumed she was used to such knowledge and wording. Perhaps... perhaps she'd know what these words mean?
"Uhm, excuse me?" She waited a bit, if the girl didn't raise her head or acknowledge, she wouldn't move on. Ophelia was still quite the shy student, one year hadn't changed that much. "I was wondering... do you know much about healing?" If the other girl looked over, she'd smile nervously. "I'm Ophelia, by the way."

Linda was immersed in yet another chapter when she heard someone. Looking up, mentally making a note where she finished reading, she looked at the girl. Just now realizing that someone say close to her.
Hey. I'm Linda. I could say so. Do you need help with anything? Healing. It became her passion. Contrast to her new interest in Dark Arts and dark magic. Healing was like a light.
Summer went quite interesting. Mixed emotions and thoughts were entangled together. Linda and Quentin. What were they? She didn't know. That kiss was something amazing and she thought she started to be in love. But the next moment left her with a lot of questions and no communication till October.
Linda sighed. That wasn't something she expected. But it was hard to expect anyway. So healing became more of her passion than it used to be earlier. Now Linda was more aware of how easy it was to lose someone, to not know how to help.
Dark Arts? It was her father's family history. It was time for Linda to learn more about it. Friends could leave even if she was always good and kind. Learning this magic would do no harm. She knew she would never be able to cast unforgivables. Her character was never going to change that much. But maybe for once she would be closer to them.

healing? could you tell me more? • threadIf there was one thing that Hogwarts had taught Ophelia about over and over again, it was that people skills were the most useful of all. There were an infinite number of instances where talking to people was necessary, even when you didn't know them at all, and though you could be the smartest in the class, no one could really know that if you didn't speak up. But no matter the amount of times Ophelia learned that lesson, how many times she told herself that she'd do better the next time, she always went back to her old habits. Being shy was more than second nature, it was her only nature. And though she pushed and pushed, letting herself out there like she was doing now, the Ravenclaw was still bone-shaking nervous.
"Nice to meet you, Linda." The words were genuine, with a kind tone of voice, though Ophelia felt like her insides were shaking. The Ravenclaw girl looked back over at the booklet she had in her hands, reading over the last few lines really quickly, remembering her questions. "I do, actually. Need help with something, I mean. Well actually..." She thought about it.
Ever since she was little, her thirst for knowledge was ever present. So, if Linda here actually was experienced, this could be a learning opportunity was Ophelia, instead of just asking a narrow minded question and going on about her day. "Are you interning in the hospital wing? Do you know a lot on herbs?"

Linda looked at Ophelia, calmly waiting for the girl to speak. She wasn't bothered and didn't mind helping. Even if it meant delaying what she was reading. There was no problem with it. Sometimes it was necessary to ask someone else. Linda knew it was the best way for gaining knowledge and answers to the questions. Especially when it was connected to studying something. Like healing.
Nice to meet you too. A soft smile touched her face. Looking quite friendly and encouraging the girl to speak, Linda continued listening. I was thinking about signing up for internship. But regardless, yes, I know a lot on herbs and overall healing. My family helped me with studying more about it. You can ask anything you want and I will do my best to help you.
This time her smile was wider and she spoke with great passion. Despite her not being part of the internship here at Hogwarts, Linda was quite good at everything that was connected to healing. Only she was sad she was still not old enough to learn more spells and potions. They would study it later in older classes.
As for internship in the hospital wing? She still wasn't sure she wanted to be part of it. Perhaps she should. Her best friend was part of it. Even Simon was part of it. So it could be worth trying.

healing? could you tell me more? • threadHaving pretty much no background knowledge or context on healing or helpful herbs or even gardening, Ophelia let herself forget her worries of the previous days and weeks and months, seeping into a relative calm as she cleared her mind for the information that was about to come. At least, she thought it was. The older girl, Linda as she'd introduced herself, seemed kind, and truly willing to give another student a helping hand.
Ophelia was mildly surprised when Linda answered that she wasn't in the healing internship. She didn't know much about it, as she was pretty sure she wasn't even old enough to apply. However, having heard that the program exists, she'd have thought that anyone who'd want to pursue a similar passion would apply. Maybe the program isn't all that good. Maybe its easier to learn more without being a part of it. Of course, it was all speculation on Ophelia's part.
"Oh! Well then," Ophelia realised she didn't really have a specific question. She was just a bit confused on the terminology referenced in the pocket book that she'd picked up, but she was sure if she kept reading, she'd understand it. But, here Linda was, kindly offering to help, and the Ravenclaw, however scared of people she was, wouldn't refuse that kindness. "Are healing herbs, or magical herbs in general for that matter, any different than the Muggle ones? Or are they just used differently? Are spells more generally used to cure, or potions?" These were just passing curiosities for Ophelia, but she hoped Linda could answer them.

Linda didn't have any particular reason for not joining the healing internship. It didn't seem to be that interesting and she hoped it could offer more opportunities. However, she still was considering joining it.
Hearing the question about herbs, Linda thought for a second before answering. As far as I know, there are entirely different herbs that you can't find in Muggle world. Naturally, they will have specific effects. However, if you look into Muggle herbs more, you might be able to find those that can be used for similar reason. Though I don't have any experience with living in non-magical world, so if you could give me some examples with describing Muggle herbs, I could give you more detailed information. As for spells or potions, it really depends on injuries. Both are definitely in use. There are great healing spells that we will learn in the future. Adults know much more useful spells than we currently know. Same goes for potions. But I think spells are used always. She paused realizing how much she's spoken just now.
Linda looked curious. Were there any questions else? Was her explanation good enough? She hoped so. Herbs. She could take time to learn more about those. Especially the Muggle ones. However, she was unsure she could find something good enough. After all it was a bit harder to understand things that were connected to that world.

It was only right, after all, as the older year was going out of her way to help answer questions that the Ravenclaw had asked. And plus, the questions that Ophelia had asked were genuine, and she was grateful to Linda for offering her help.
"Interesting!" The remark sprang from Ophelia's lips, and she took an extra second to process Linda's words. So, the girl didn't know as much about Muggle herbs, which was to be expected in a magic school where most people grew up around all this for their entire lives. And spells and potions were both in use for healing. I suppose I must pay attention in potions then, not just settle for the cursory information that is necessary. The thought made her smile. She'd definitely much rather be reading an informational book on anything else.
"Well, I was thinking along the lines of the herbs chamomile and lavender. But I do know that other herbs in the Muggle world are used in more tribal medicines, though I don't know specifics." Maybe she should really brush up on her herbology knowledge. Could be useful one of these days.
Ophelia tipped her head at Linda, her face still friendly. While this whole topic seemed interesting, she wondered what had gotten the older girl into it all. "So what brought you into healing? I have a bit of a passion with zoology, and I'm pretty sure it came with my early love for Muggle sciences and, of course, my pet dog back home!"

Linda smiled. It was surprisingly easy to explain these things. But muggle plants? She sighed. It would be amazing to know more about it. Relying only on magic most probably won't bring her to the level she wants to achieve. Her knowledge will always stay limited, no matter how much she will learn.
Perhaps you can find out the answer later. If you are familiar with muggle plants, it's just a matter of time when you will know if something is similar enough. She replied kindly. Linda will have to search for a book to try to understand more. Was it even available in Hogwarts?

It was to be expected, her not having all the answers that Ophelia craved. But that didn't mean that she didn't feel the sting of disappointment and the restless energy that wanted her to keep searching, searching, searching for an answer. Perhaps she'd take a bit of a walk around the library after her conversation with the older year was over, try and find some information.
"That makes sense. Some interests just come in randomly or just feel natural to love." The words were quite true. Ophelia's love of reading and stories had just showed up one day and decided that it didn't want to leave. And her baking? While it wasn't as perfect as she'd liked, the hobby didn't have a backstory of its own. When Linda mentioned the one that she liked, Ophelia smiled. If she knew Linda better, then perhaps she'd ask-- no, demand-- that she share the details. But they weren't close, they'd just met! But the Ravenclaw could imagine Linda and the best friend that she'd mentioned whispering to each other.
"I love my dog. His name is Galleon, and he's the sweetest little thing." She giggled. Ophelia quite missed her dog during her time at Hogwarts, but Dove, her kitty, kept her company, and she'd come to realize that Dove was just as amazing. "Well, I'm really into zoology, as I said before. I studied a bit of botany before first year, but I'm finding that I like herbology a lot better. Magical plants are so much more interesting. But potions is a lot harder than it's Muggle counterpart-- chemistry."
