“she wasn’t fragile like a flower, she was fragile like a bomb
Violeta’s hair was getting long. Too long. She was starting to hate it. Not her hair, but having to stretch her arm until it physically hurt just to brush the ends of her hair. And that simply sucked. That was the word to describe her situation. Also, her bangs had gotten way too long and most of the time, she either couldn’t see or had to clip them back with barretes, and that was getting way too repetitive.
She had never actually cut her own hair, her mother always did that. However, Violeta was extremely observant, and she learned a thing or two about cutting hair, so there she was, standing in the girl’s lavatory, scissors in hand ready to trim just a the ends of her hair. And fix her bangs as well, they were really getting way too long, and she couldn’t really see anymore.
She heard a groan, probably from some old pipe, and then she took a deep breath, took out the little elastic that was pinning her hair back, and then she took another breath and raised the scissors up to her bangs, took her bangs and started cutting her bangs. Then she looked down at the sink and realized the amount of hair that she had cut off, wow, her hair really had gotten way too long. She snipped of a bit of the right side of her hair, and attempted to reach for the back of her hair, but then realized, she couldn’t reach for the back, dang it, the lavatory was empty, or was it? It was quiet, maybe if someone walked out of the stalls she could ask some girl to help a girl out. Or if someone entered the lavatory, she could ask.

The lavatory was not a very typical nor ideal place to get one's homework done, but Lottie had grown quite accustomed to the ways of accommodating to unorthodox places. She thought it was somewhat of a skill, the ability to tolerate even the most unpleasant of locations for the simple sake of getting away from the loud, obnoxious sounds of unrestrained, rowdy students. The lavatory just so happened to be the most convenient location as of the moment.
Squished between two wooden boards and a cold cobblestone wall, Lottie attempted to balance a Charms textbook on her legs while hovering just slightly off the seat of a toilet, trying to prevent the contraction of any magical germs from the least trustworthy room in all of the school. Then, just as she had finally fixed herself into a somewhat tolerable position, the doors to the lavatory opened, alerting her of another's presence.
After many years of living under the careful surveillance of nannies and caretakers, Lottie had mastered the art of being so incredibly still that it was as if she did not exist. She kept her breathes short and shallow as she listened to the sounds of footsteps moving towards the sink and stopping. Lottie jolted a bit as the sound of snipping filled the air, echoing off the hollow walls. This continued on for a few minutes, until randomly it just stopped.
Lottie contemplated her options for a moment. The facts were clear: the snipping had stopped, no footsteps had followed, and the room now drowned in an uncertain silence. She considered her circumstances. On one hand, she really needed to get down these incantations. On the other, she really wanted to see what all the ruckus was about. The latter was much more favorable, and Lottie's restraint had been a finnicky thing since the Fall, so she went with her gut and carefully opened the stall door, peering out.
What she saw made perfect sense, but still felt unexpected. A young girl, around her same age it seemed, stood before the mirror with a pair of shiny scissors in her hand and a notably uneven haircut. Lottie deduced the situation very quickly, and upon deciding that she had already made her mind up and thus it was too late to run, she carefully stepped out towards the mirror.

“she wasn’t fragile like a flower, she was fragile like a bomb
Snip, snip, snip...
Were the only sounds the young Slytherin could hear, until she stopped because she simply couldn't reach the back of her hair, since it had gotten way too long... Ugh, when was the last time she had cut it again? The girl couldn't even remember, which was a bad thing. Well, the last time she had cut her hair, her mother had done it, so probably in the Summer, which had been months ago.
Even though she'd never actually attempted what she was attempting at that moment, she knew what she was doing, whenever her mother cut her hair, she would always observe her every move, her body language, the songs she hummed as she worked. Her mother was a perfectionist, something Violeta hadn't yet mastered, though she did try.
You'd think that living with a perfectionist mother and a way too ambitious father who only wanted his children to follow his footsteps, the young girl would be skilled in knowing if someone was in a room... though that wasn't the case, this time. Usually the brunette always won hide and seek, she was good in seeking, knowing if a room was truly empty or not, and in hiding, she knew all the secret passages and rooms in her homes, most of them anyway, and she was good at being invisible, when she tried. At that moment she wasn't trying to be invisible, though someone else in that room was...
She nearly had a panic attack when another girl, who seemed like she was about Violeta's age, the girl had definitely seen her in the Slytherin common room, hadn't she?
Violeta expected her to come out of the stall with her hands empty, though she had a textbook, Charms, in her hands. She also expected this girl to wash her hands, ignore her presence and simply leave the lavatory, though she did neither. Then it clicked, she probably had been doing homework in the stalls, a little unusual, but Violeta had done worse. When she was younger, she'd read upside down in a tall tree, or climb up a shelf and do schoolwork her mother assigned or even attempt to plan an invention on the ceiling of her own home, which doesn't sound too bad, though keep in mind, she had to climb a tree and jump onto the roof, and if she fell, she'd probably have to go to St. Mungos, so she had no reaction.
Though, when the girl asked her if she needed a hand Violeta smirked, slightly, she did not do that a lot, but the other brunette had read her mind, basically, she just had been wondering if she could ask for someone's help, since she couldn't reach for the back of her hair, and she desperately needed to. "Well, sure." she said, American accent slipping out. "Oh and don't worry if you haven't done this before, I haven't either."

Despite being the one to initiate the conversation, Lottie still tensed as the other girl's gaze connected with her own, officially finalizing Lottie's bold decision to offer assistance in an area she was mostly clueless about. The last time she could recall cutting anyone's hair had been when she was just a little thing, knees teetering precariously on a tall stool as she snipped away at her older sister's long white hair and nearly cut her ear off. Needless to say, their mother had not been pleased.
Her mother wasn't here now, though. The only person Lottie needed to satisfy was the Slytherin across from her with scissors and a half-done haircut. It shouldn't have been so daunting, but Lottie's heart pounded violently in her chest. She stepped forward, carefully balancing her textbook on the sink and washing her hands with the one to its left. "Seems you've done a fine job already." She commented, peering over at the girl's progress as she wiped her hands on her robes. The simple gesture would send both her mother and father spiraling.
Coming up beside the girl, Lottie outstretched her right hand, still slick with moisture. She swallowed thickly, nodding her head towards the girl's scissors. Lottie wasn't sure exactly what drove her to be so bold, but it seemed her body was working much faster than her mind. "I'm not too experienced with the art of cosmetology. I hope you don't mind. “she wasn’t fragile like a flower, she was fragile like a bomb
It was quite an odd thing really, first this other girl had come out of the lavatory with a Charms textbook in hands, seemingly doing homework in the lavatory and then she offered a hand. Both of them were doing odd things. The other girl seemed to be doing homework and Violeta was cutting her hair in the lavatory. She had never actually seen that scene before. Perhaps the other girls would just rather have their hair cut at home. Perhaps they did just cut their hair at Hogwarts but the girl hadn't walked in on their haircut.
Violeta simply watched as she balanced her textbook on the sink. She read the title of the book and then spoke, answering her comment. She did not have to, she did anyway. "Why thank you.I'd finish up myself, but as you can see, I can't seem to reach." The girl's comment made her a bit more confident, so she smirked. After all, this was her first self-haircut. She handed the other brunette the large metal scissors. They weren't too heavy, actually, you would've guessed they weight a lot more than they did. "It's fine. Just do what you can." "But thanks for the effort." she said nonchalantly, as always.
