𝖕rat's heart raced as he stepped onto the designated spot, the smells from various ingredients lingered in the air. Concocting a symphony of alchemical aromas that filled him with both excitement and a hint of surmounting pressure. The boy was nothing if not confident in his abilities, yet somewhere buried deep within him remained the constant pressure of winning the upcoming championship. His decision to himself, promising himself a victory before the event even began weighed heavily on his young shoulders. A pureblood wizard through and through, Prat knew his lineage had certain expectations from him, some he was even often scrutinized for by his own blood. However, such trials in life were not worthy enough to deter one such as him. With a determined mindset leading to the station, Prat tightened his jaw, before relaxing all the muscles, seemingly getting ready for the task to come. Flicking his wand through his fingers, he adjusted his round glasses, They had now gotten worn and torn over the passage of time, something he had kept putting off to fix while engrossed in his own work of different magnitudes. His black middle-parted hair, remained steadfastly in place, no charm except the one he was born with of course.

He glanced around the room, spotting his teammates, Evpraksiya and Aleks, already at their designated station, unpacking their supplies with focused precision. Evpraksiya, an ethereal dwarf sized elegant witch with piercing green eyes and a sharp intellect and Aleks, an alluring Witch, his own age with her platinum hair cascading down her back in a perfect wave.

"Morning Ladies," Prat announced with a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes, one he had practiced enough times to do on command.

He had spent countless hours preparing for this moment, huddled over (not so)ancient tomes and bubbling cauldrons. As a second-year student and a pure blood, Prat knew his Os in Potions were no big feat. That was expected of him at the very least, but today was different. Today however; was about more than just grades; it was about proving his skills in the grand arena that had presented themselves a chance in the school championship.

The instructions for the Drowsiness Draught were clear in Prat's mind, a memory from the countless times he had read and recited the recipe. This potion just like all others would require a steady hand and a keen eye for detail. As the team began to measure and chop the ingredients, Prat soon found solace in the familiar rhythm of the process. His tendency to get lost in his own work aiding him. The clinking of glass beakers and the sizzle of ingredients was soon filling up the room. The potion was one he had learned during the first year, however; brewing it under the watchful eyes of several judges was an entirely new experience for him.

He knew the success of their potion relied heavily on this team's ability to work in harmony, each complementing the other's strengths while compensating for whatever weaknesses they might possess. As Prat ground the Bdellium into a sticky measure with the use of mortar, before adding it to the cauldron. He backed off while the others did their work and he crushed Chamomile leaf into a fine powder using the mortar. After a while he observed as the potion being brewed was reheated to medium heat. After which he proceeded to add one measure of standard ingredient. Once the others had done their work, he stirred the whole thing three times counter-clockwise.

Waking up early was nothing new for Aleksandra. She was known for doing things early she despised being late or even on time always had to be early in order to have time to do what she had to make sure her day went semi normal at least that was how she thought that was. Her heart seemed to beat quickly as her mind thought carefully the young girl was excited in her own way. Potions was her second favorite subject though the girl did well and got straight O’s in her classes. She tried well to not let her book knowledge or knowledge in general leak out. She did not want her fellow classmates to study off her that was.
While the platinum haired girl had entered the Great Hall noticing that she was the first to appear she carefully went to a station and began unpacking everything the young girl had brought along with her. Her gray eyes scanned everything carefully while the girl had a piece of parchment to the side with the ingredients and instructions to the side with her careful notes and details scribbled onto the thin yellow parchment paper.
Everything had to go well. This was a competition after all, Aleksandra wanted to prove her worth. The FairBairn name was not a well known Pureblood name at least to her knowledge the girl did not even know her fathers whole family for all Aleksandra knew they could be potioneers.
Sighing slightly Aleksandra blinked this was no time to day dream. Daydreaming while making a potion was dangerous and could cause problems. She had to be careful and cautious. Focused and on point watching every step she did and to make sure everything was precise.
While Aleksandra continued to set up what she could. Her ears picked up on a pair of footsteps approaching her. A young first year that she never met before at least to recollection shrugging she figured she was the other teammate Prat had mentioned when he had asked her prior. Nodding slightly to the first year Aleksandra continued to stay quiet preparing for everything while she glanced at her notes carefully going over the ingredients once more making sure they had everything they needed for this potion.
A voice rang around Aleksandra as a certain dark haired boy came over towards the girls. Aleksandra glanced up slightly, breathing heavily through her nose in a way of greeting as she gave him a cold look as she went back to what she was doing. The girl’s gray eyes read her parchment quietly scanning everything while checking everything that was placed in front of the trio.
Aleksandra glanced around the table carefully grabbing a spoonful of the Bdellium into the Mortar carefully making sure the whole spoon emptied into the mortar. Aleksandra’s next task was to add the Chamomile into the cauldron. Carefully the young platinum haired girl poured the one measure of crushed chamomile into the cauldron before stepping over to her parchment glancing down allowing the others to do what they need waiting five seconds for the potion to cool once the five seconds were up Aleksandra poured two measures of the standard ingredients into the cauldron eyeing the potion carefully as her teammates did their parts.
Aleksandra waited sixty minutes for the potion to brew. It felt like forever as the young girl continued to keep a close eye on the potion eyeing every little detail of the liquid in the cauldron. After the sixty minutes came to a close and noticing prat add the next ingredients, the young girl turned the heat up for about two minutes to the highest temperature that the cauldron could go. While she waited for the other two to do their task it came to Aleksandra’s turn to the potion one time clockwise. Carefully Aleksandra stirred the potion clockwise, before allowing the others to do what they had to while she went back to her notes carefully going over everything in her mind. Hoping everything was done properly and hopefully correctly.
The young girl took care to make sure everything went as smoothly as possible. The potion seemed to look good and hopefully it worked for what the children needed it for. One can only hope she supposed.

Not when she'd seen Nadezhda at work and truly in her element, hands moving a thousand volatile ingredients at once with a calculated precision she was convinced not even magic could fully replicate. No, that to Evpraksiya was what she considered an expert. However, she wouldn't say she was terrible at brewing either, O's being an academic consistent in all her subjects, but Potions lacked the ease that Transfiguration gifted her. Still, familiarity bred confidence, and that was enough for her to realize she needed far more practice than she had.

All that was to say, Evpraksiya didn't trust her natural talent at potions in any situation, never mind in a renowned competition. Without skill to rely on, preparation was her shield. She'd spent sleepless nights poring over textbooks, committing recipes to memory with a fervor that left ink smudges on her fingers and the faint scent of parchment clinging to her robes at atrocious hours of the night. A few weeks ago even wrote to Nadezhda for advice before the competition had begun. The girl had concluded that she wouldn't be able to brew any third-year potions no. That seemed completely out of her skillset but... second-year potions she'd memorized and was convinced she could, if only alongside upperclassmen. It was lucky for her then, that she'd been paired with two second years that seemed intelligent far beyond their years.

Prat Pass- the moderator for her first duel and someone whose easy confidence she heavily envied, whose position as captain of the dueling team, she coveted. And Aleksandra FairBairn. Evpraksiya admittedly didn't know too much about her to the girl's dismay. The FairBairn name wasn't one spoken in the circles she ran in. At her weekly teatime with friends, there was barely any information from them either on the girl apart from her apparent excellence in academics. Lovely knowledge to know that her partners would excel in their own right but horrible for slaking Evpraksiya's curiosity.

Thus, as she stepped into her place at the potion's championship, she made sure to politely greet Aleksandra and smile all the more sweetly. The ghostly-haired witch didn't seem particularly interested in small talk and Evpraksiya wouldn't fault her for that.

Winning the tournament would be worth more than any words she could speak.

❝Lovely morning.❞ She returned Prat's greeting, making a quick note of his rather off expression as they finally, began brewing the potion they'd gathered here for.

Drowsiness Draught was certainly a more complex potion than any she'd brewed before and she given its complexity, she'd meticulously added a singular chamomile leaf to the mortar, waiting for Prat to crush the mixture into a fine powder using the pestle and Aleksandra to add a measure of chamomile into the cauldron. Evpraksiya made sure the cauldron was on medium heat before counting to 25 clearly to inform her teammates. She watched the other two do their own respective actions before waving her wand. After they'd done their work she added 2 valerian sprigs to the cauldron, stepping back for the final time before waving her wand for the last time to complete the potion.

She stepped away from the cauldron, there was no reason to look at it a last time when there was nothing more she could do. Whether they passed the first test or not was dependant on this potion in particular and she was determined to do nothing but excel.

Heavy is the head that wears the crown, and with three purebloods all bearing their respective weights would it make them dead weight in the water or stabilize them in the storm?
