Let me know if the date is okay :)
𝖎t wasn’t the first time Ruth Fairchild had been to the owlery, and that day, she was ensuring it wasn’t the last either.

Well, it would never be her last. Her family kept frequent contact with her, and Ruth did constantly find herself enveloped with not only letters brimming with love but also parcels filled with pictures of birds that her older brother took, some books that her oldest sister specifically bought for her, the occasional sweet pastry from her parents (which, mind you, she would have only gotten one a month if she was still in bath) and even a drawing or two from her youngest brother. Because of this, Ruth frequented the owlery, writing letter after letter to her adoring family.

This time, however, she was on a different mission.

Ruth was and always has been an observant person. Sitting down in the great hall eating breakfast, she could see the majority of her peers and other students from the tables, watching them with her hyper focused forest green eyes. She had seen the looks of students when they stare at another’s face brighten up at the sight of a letter. She had seen the disappointment, the sadness, the jealousy. The isolation.

She didn’t want them to feel this way. It didn’t seem fair. Everyone deserved a letter or two, and she was positive her plan would work. She made her way past the first three platforms and up to the fourth, where she was greeted by the statue owls. Ruth liked those owls. Their frozen, beady eyes seemed as though they captured memories and time, having been in the owlery for who knows how long. Either way, seeing them felt like watching history stay in the present.

Her gaze drifted to the windows. Always, always a beautiful sight.

Ruth shook her head out of her daydream, looking down at the letter she had in her hand. This was for a student, anyone really, to wander over while visiting the owls. Ruth hoped to find someone, anyone, to talk to this way. She wasn’t having the hardest time doing that face to face, but she had always been the creative sort. She lingered at the olive green seal pasting the flap together, fingering the bow outline she had made. Hopefully it looked attractive enough to catch someone’s attention.

She looked around. Now, where do I put it… there were several owl statues around her, all of different scales. Ruth decided to pick one closest to the balustrade, slipping the envelope slightly behind it. She grinned, then skipped down the steps.

Yougle Crenshaw was wandering around aimlessly in the owlery.

Why? Well, she wasn't exactly sure. She supposed it was because she had been finished with all of her homework for the day, it was the afternoon, and having a bit too much spare time with nothing to do, she decided to explore.

Because why not? She had always loved exploring. It was not like wandering around in your own school was not allowed, especially when it wasn't even dark yet.

After she looked around at almost everything in the Owlery, attempting to befriend most of the school owls, and even thinking about maybe writing a letter herself, Yougle decided that she might as well start heading back. After all, there were still more things to explore before dark.

But before she made even two step towards the door, she stopped. Behind one of the owl statues that ringed the Owlery, Yougle spotted a letter with an olive green seal and a pretty bow outline.

Curious as to who it was delivered to, Yougle picked it up. But there was no name that it was addressed to; just the letters, "From: Ruth Fairchild".

And so, Yougle being Yougle, she opened it and began to read.

For every complex problem, there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

𝓢ure, it hadn’t been too long since Ruth had gone up to the owlery. Sure, someone probably hadn’t spotted her letter yet. After all, how long has it been she placed the secret envelope there? Not long at all. What were the chances?

Still, Ruth was itching to get up there and find out. Her anticipation was at its brim. She couldn’t possibly contain it much longer! That wouldn’t be good for her at all, since it often sparked adrenaline which led to her observation skills dimming ever so slightly, also making her lose concentration as she focused from one thing to the next too quickly.

Giving up after merely 5 days, Ruth strode up the tower after school, resisting the urge to skip three steps up the stairs to find out. How often do people come up here anyways? Maybe one or two? The school was pretty big and full of students, all of which had to have some letters they wanted to send over. If Ruth was lucky, there was bound to be someone who found the envelope. It was jutting out of the statues anyways. To miss a perfectly white envelope contrasting the shades of brown was nearly impossible.

Ruth had been up the owlery a couple of times, now that sending letters to her family had gone from habitual to frequent. They were constantly asking after Ruth’s wellbeing, their curiosity as much as it had been at the start of the school year. Ruth understood their interest in the wizarding world. After all, she was the only one in her family who got accepted to Hogwarts.

However, today’s climb up the owlery didn’t involve a letter to them. Ruth did, of course, bring a piece of paper and her quill to write a letter back to whoever found her letter, if there was someone.

First platform, second, third, forth! Ruth ignored the bustling owls, droppings, smells and leftover treats as she made her way up to the forth platform, shielding her eyes from the sudden brightness seeping in from the glassless windows. It sure was sunny at the time of the day, the warmth of the sun’s rays complementing the winter air. Squinting under the sunlight, Ruth eyes drew to where the letter had been placed, then grinned. Sure enough, it was still there, but moved a few inches back so that now it was touching the wall. Ruth hadn’t placed it like that. Eagerly, she slipped open the envelope to find 2 letters, one from her and another. She took out the other to read.

Yougle Crenshaw. That was her first quill pal, it seemed. Ruth giggled as Yougle answered her question with humour, drinking in her words. Well, that was nice. Satisfied, she found herself draping the paper she had brought over the bannister and wrote.

Kadence was someone who didn't really know how to use owlery in the first place so he wasn't there often but today, he might as well try. He had an envelope in hand and was ready to drop it off hoping it'd be easy.

He searched around the platform, walking around, exploring etc. Looking for where he could leave his letter sealed with red ribbon. If he left it around somewhere, would someone see it?
"Who checks their owlery often?"
The boy thought to himself, he would've just put it in the usual place owls went but that'd be to plain. He couldn't even find it at the moment. He hoped for the best and paced around for a bit

After a while of being nervous and overthinking, he made the decision to keep searching for the owl statues to place his letter in. He finally found the posts and carefully put his handwritten letter there. He hummed softly with a nod, seeming to affirm himself that this was the perfect placement. In his opinion, he thought his decor in the letter was eye-catching enough.

Surely soon enough someone would write to him, even though he didn't necessarily know who he was writing to. He just wanted a few pals to talk to since he was pretty lonely and relatively new to this whole magic thing.
