Shush! Please
A shivery sigh slipped from Ira’s lips as the chill in the air wrapped around her while she sat cross legged on the grass. With a fluid motion, her hand loosened her high ponytail, releasing her hair to tumble down in wild waves. She ran her fingers through it as the strands danced with the wind.
It was a chilly day but Ira could hardly care. The chirping of birds, the gentle rustling of leaves, and the delicate ripples in the lake created a harmony. The serenity and solitude wrapped around her. It was exactly what she needed after a long day of lectures, practices, and the endless presence of so many people.
Ira hadn’t even bothered to change out of her school robes. After the last class, her feet had carried her straight to the lake where she had been sitting by for a while. At least here, there weren’t many people- Comparatively speaking. Anyway, few people lingered nearby but none within 10 feet of her, granting her the space she craved.
It wasn't that she's a people hater or something. At this moment, though, solitude was the one thing her heart craved. Embracing the peace of the moment, Ira hummed a soft melody, her head moving in time along with the tune.

Shush! Please

𝕽uth Fairchild was terribly, terribly lost.
Well, not exactly. Ruth didn’t have any trouble following the curves of the Great Lake, but she did lose her sense of direction. She could barely comprehend which was the east and which was the west. This would probably make it harder for her to find her way back to the school grounds, which made her shudder at the thought. Casting a long look back at the lake, she sighed, then continued her trek. Surely there would be a bigger clearing of some sort which would give her a decent look over everything.
Slipping her way through the trees, Ruth continued her trek down the bumping hills, never a smooth walk. She enjoyed it, though. Ruth never was given the chance to freely explore her neighbourhood back in Bath, not without the accompanied sibling or parents. Here, she felt alone but safe, the world stretching endlessly. Ruth savoured every single bit.
That was, until she tripped.
Ruth hadn’t noticed the small bump down, too engrossed in her surroundings and the lake more than the ground itself, and her foot hit the edge. “Woah!” she yelped, flailing as she tumbled down, unable to stop herself. She hit something—wait no, someone— stopping her fall and sending the other down in the impact. Ruth groaned, then realised what had happened. Shooting up, she found herself facing a girl whom she had come into contact with, sprawled from the sudden shove. Another Hufflepuff, but bearing the expression of a Slytherin. Ruth backed away, horrified by what she had done.
“Oh my goodness, I am so sorry!” Ruth apologised profusely, rushing back and extending a hand to help the girl up. As she did so, Ruth eyes had already wandered the girl, taking her in. Her dark brown eyes, as dark as dark chocolate could be, were deep and piercing, burning and seeking. Ruth felt a chill run down her spine as the girl’s gaze was more than intense. The girl’s hair ruffled in the wind, making it seem like the girl had posed for the fall. Everything about her screamed elegant, crushing Ruth with the guilt of ruining her momentum.

OOC:ReducioWhat date would you like this to be? I’m hoping for some time during September, as this is supposed to be one of Ruth’s earliest walks around the lake

The gentle melody she had been singing was abruptly cut off, replaced by a sharp shriek, her body jolted forward as something hit her from behind with overwhelming force.
The sudden blow sent Ira crashing face down onto the dewy grass, her hands unable to react in time to break the fall, leaving her with no way to prevent the fall. Ira heard the girl’s groan before she lifted her face from the cold ground.
With a sharp glare, her eyes narrowed as she swept her wild from her face, her movements almost as fierce as her gaze. The other girl, probably around Ira’s age, stepped back, fear evident in her eyes. As she should!
The girl rushed forward and extended her hand, but Ira’s gaze remained locked on her face as she slapped the offered hand away. It wasn’t the most polite response, her rage silenced all thoughts of manners.
How wrong she would be if she had been expecting a polite thank you or no problem, I’m fine from Ira. Those words felt miles away right now, with the anger that consumed her. Ira pushed herself to her feet. Ah, her nose hurt. She rubbed it lightly, wincing slightly.
Ira took a steadying breath, gazing up at the sky. Arms folded, she finally spoke, quietly but firmly, "Did you really not see me sitting here? Was this intentional? Let me make one thing clear. This isn’t funny and you’re not getting away from this so easily."

𝓦ell, that was unexpected. Ruth rubbed her hand as the girl stood up herself, gingerly feeling the skin on her nose. She really didn’t mean to bump into her. Should Ruth had said more?
No, it wasn’t that. The Great Lake was a place of solitude, for the people who wanted to be alone. Ruth had ruined it for the girl. It made sense that she was angry. However, she sure was pretty expressive about it.
Shoot, she was losing herself. How was Ruth so calm about it suddenly? Probably because this girl is being real angry…Be nice, Ruth. Knowing how the girl had straight up slapped her hand out of the way, she best not try. Instead, smoothing down her expression, she said, levelly, “I’m sorry. It was a hill downwards, and I’m not quite sure what I tripped on. Could I make it up to you by sending you to the infirmary? I’m sure the school nurse can patch you up,” Ruth tried to offer her the nicest smile she could, but the glare was terrifying. Goodness.
Ruth backed up even more, afraid the girl might throw fists. She herself had managed to avoid tackling anyone lately, but it had barely only been the second week since she got here. There wasn’t anybody to have a fist fight against, yet.
And she certainly didn’t want a Hufflepuff. Instead, she straightened herself, the smile still on her face. Gosh, if only she had calming presence. “I’m Ruth, Ruth Fairchild. What’s yours?”

Ira’s glare sharpened, honed by the other girl’s calm tone and the seemingly innocent curve of her lips. Mockery was written all over that smile. What else could it mean? After all, what kind of person flashes a smile after sending someone crashing face-first into the ground?
She was probably laughing up her sleeve. Who knows? Tomorrow, she might point Ira out to her friends, tell the story, and they’d all have a good laugh at her expense. Not a single word escaped Ira’s lips as her sharp gaze lingered on the girl.
Ira let out a derisive chuckle as Ruth introduced herself. She couldn’t believe her ears. Mocking her with that sweet little introduction and asking for Ira’s name as though it meant something. As though Ira couldn’t see through that nonsense.
"Oh, Ruth Fairchild, what a hero! Tell me, do I appear so helpless that I need someone to hold my hand all the way to the infirmary? Or, for that matter, like I’m in such bad shape that I need patching up?"
Ira took a deep breath, her voice laced with frustration. “Seriously, girl?” She shook her head, her earlier anger fading into tired resignation. Her cousins had already warned her about the bullies at school, but as a pureblood, she never expected to be on the receiving end.

Shush! Please

𝕽uth’s smile waned, then slipped off completely as the intensity of the girl’s glare increased. She didn’t answer Ruth’s question, instead growing seemingly angrier by the minute.
Goodness. Her patience was wearing thin by the minute. Couldn’t this girl see how genuine Ruth was trying to be? And wasn’t she hurt? Then, why deny the offer of going to the infirmary? Ruth pursed her lips as the girl mocked at her. “I mean, you did get mad when I tumbled over you,” she pointed out, arms akimbo. “If that’s the reaction I get for a what you’re suggesting, not ‘a bad shape’, I wouldn’t dare to see what would happen if something worse occured.” She laughed out loud at the thought, halting immediately. Woops, probably shouldn’t have done that.
The girl on the other hand, looked resigned after her mockery. Ruth clenched and unclenched her fist, unsure of whether to get angrier or gentler. Mmm, probably not the latter. The girl—why couldn’t she just tell me her name? Calling her ‘this girl’ is just…— clearly rejected her offer to bring her over to the infirmary to get the nose healed up, even considering it to be mockery. Was her ego so high that she couldn’t tell the difference between bullying and helpfulness?
Ruth was riling herself up. Calm down, she soothed herself. You can’t afford to get expelled by using your hands already. Besides, it wouldn’t be the girl’s fault if she was just frustrated over something. She looked tired to Ruth, as if upset about something. Rough day, maybe. Should she ask? Nah.
Instead, Ruth walked back up the hill she had fallen from, inspecting the ground near where she had tripped. There weren’t much rocks or stones lying around, but Ruth found herself staring at a small bump she had missed a while ago. Seriously? Ruth shook her head to herself. It really was her fault for not noticing it. But she had already apologised, what could she do? Ruth shuffled uncomfortably on the spot.
Maybe this was why I didn’t get into Ravenclaw, she thought sullenly. I would have known how to get out of this situation.

Ira scrunched her eyebrows in disbelief as Ruth Fairchild pointed out that Ira had gotten mad when she’d been pushed. Oh, sure, what was Ira supposed to do —throw her arms around the other girl and thank her with tears of joy for being shoved from behind?
She didn’t just say that—and laugh, did she? Ira’s hands balled into fists, her nails digging into her palms so hard it almost hurt. The temptation to leave her mark on Ruth's cheek was overwhelming but Ira fought it down, determined not to give in to the impulse.
Ira took a step closer to Ruth, her finger circling the air in front of her face. “Oh, Ruth Fairchild, well, that really clears things up. I’m absolutely positive you’ve already planned the ‘worse,’ you maniac!” She spat the words through clenched teeth, her words sharp with a frustration that made her words more biting than she intended.
As the minutes ticked by, Ira felt her grip on her emotions weakening. Ruth was utterly intolerable, and every second in her presence made Ira’s frustration boil over. She couldn’t risk doing something she’d regret later. Ira knew the best option was to leave before things got worse.
Ira shook her head and pinched the bridge of her nose before. Her voice was low and controlled, “try this again, and trust me— you’ll wish you hadn’t.” With that, she turned on her heel and walked away— not to her dorm as she had planned, but to the hospital wing. Because, of course, her nose had to be the cherry on top of this disaster.
