Outside of her robes, Ranyu likes wearing nature inspired clothing, skirts with sweaters embroidered with mushrooms, woodland critters and other similar motifs - all done by her grandmother. Tanned from her time spent outdoors, she often has little regard for dirt and is not afraid to get her hands mucky. She has a gap in her front teeth.

mental description↴ Reducio Ranyu Lies is a curious girl by nature, constantly out pursuing her interests - mushrooms, woodland creatures, nature. She has a tendency to ignore her needs and other important things to instead pursue her interest. She's stubborn on her opinions, and while she is open to hearing people out, she often gets defensive if her views are challenged. family members ↴ Reducio Lies Family Vincent Dermond Lies (father) = Born Vincent (Vinny) Dermond, in Clodragh, Kerry, 1972 to Paul Dermond (1936-2000) and Sheila Dermond (nee Byrne) (1947-2019), was a bright, optimistic muggle man, having captured Eileen's heart during their time in secondary. They married in July 1994, and he took on the Lies surname. Working in construction, the economic boom of the Celtic Tiger benefited their newlywed lives, and they were able to purchase their dream home. In 2002, Vincent was diagnosed with hypertension, which would unfortunately result in his passing in 2016 from a second stroke. Eileen Lies (mother) = Born Eileen Lies, in London, 1971 to Carmel Lies (nee Smith) and Eamon Lies, is a protective, clumsy and easily flustered woman. Marrying Vincent Dermond, her teenage love, in 1994, they settled in their dream home. In 2013, Ranyu Lies would be born and the couple adored her, spoiling her as the love of their lives. Following Vincent's passing, Eileen found herself stranded and overwhelmed, resulting in her parents moving in with her and Ranyu to help her out around the home. Eileen works as a florist. When her daughter was revealed to be a witch, she turned to her parents, confused and overwhelmed once again. She couldn’t trust the claims, sure strange things happened, but that was likely just off chance coincidental things. Or it was the faeries… they did have those Hawthorn trees at the end of their large garden… Carmel Lies (maternal grandmother) = Born Carmel Smith, in Ennis, Clare, in 1952 to Mary Smith (nee Murphy) and Joseph Smith, is a sceptic, plant-loving woman. Living together with her then partner Eamon Lies, they mutually separated briefly prior to Eileen’s birth, (unbeknownst to Eamon), before reuniting and marrying in 1974. She had moved to London briefly to give birth to Eileen, attempting to escape the glaring societal pressures placed upon single mothers. She reunited with Eamon then. Carmel worked in the service industry for many years, eventually becoming a gardener of which she now continues as a hobby. She is very superstitious around the myths of faeries, and of luck, quickly instilling the beliefs into her daughter and granddaughter. When Ranyu Lies was revealed to be a witch, Eileen was quick to deem it a hoax, a strange occurrence to ignore. After all, magic wasn’t something to joke about. Eventually, she would come around to the idea, and is now very proud of her granddaughter. And is especially fascinated to learn about magical plants or the magical properties of certain plants. Eamon Lies (maternal grandfather) = Born Eamon Lies, in Tralee, Kerry in 1943, to Anne Lies (nee Shannon) and Sean Lies, is a relaxed, encouraging man. Having met Carmel at her then workplace, the two began living together and entered in a relationship. Eamon, interested in pursuing education, left for London in 1970 to begin his degree in botany after a mutual separation from Carmel. He would later run into Carmel in London, finding out about Eileen and supported the two as much as he could, dismayed that he had not known about his daughter. Following his graduation, the two moved back to Kerry, where he pursued a career as a mycologist and Carmel began gardening. Following the death Vincent Desmond, the couple moved in with their daughter and granddaughter to support the family. When Ranyu was revealed to be a witch, he found himself hesitant but distantly recalled his grandmother insisting her grandmother was a witch when he was a young lad. Having been considered insane prior to her death, a stroke having slurred her speech, the family had dismissed the bizarre claims.

the incident ↴ Reducio Ranyu Lies was 7 years old. While adventuring around in their massive open garden (one that was only separated by the forest trees), she spotted something that garnered her interest. A mushroom, one she had not seen before, not even in her pop's study books. Completely overjoyed and excited, thinking she had discovered something new, she called for her family as loud as she could to come and see it. She reached out to flatten the grass around it, before attempting to gently pick it up, only for it to explode abruptly in her face. Frightening and upsetting her, she quickly began to sob, her family rushing to comfort and console her in concern. Hearing the staggered explanation from a distraught child, they assumed she had squished it by accident, and reassured her greatly. Eamon Lies, in an attempt to improve her mood, helped her to research and figure out the mysterious exploding mushroom, much to her glee. They wouldn't find out about the mushroom until she was accepted into Hogwarts.

the childhood ↴ Reducio Born Ranyu Lies, in Tralee, Kerry to Eileen Lies and Vincent Lies (nee Desmond), is a muggle-born witch. Ranyu Lies, has brown curly hair that ends just past her shoulders, ivory complexion, and hazel eyes. Outside of school robes, or under them, she prefers to wear sweaters with woodland motifs (mushrooms; rabbits; bugs) and long skirts. She stands at a reasonable 146 cm and weighs 82 lbs. Being muggle-born, Lies enjoyed a relatively 'regular' life. She attended a muggle public school and had muggle friends and muggle enemies. Her father passed early on due to illness so her mother and grandparents took care of her, all living under one roof out in Kerry. Her distant ancestors are supposedly from Germany. Her mother worked hard when she was growing up to give Lies a normal childhood. The Lies family have a close bond - her grandmother knits and embroiders her sweaters, her grandfather, being a mycologist, is her idol and encourages her passions. While in primary, her closest friends were Cian Byrne and Holly Keevan (both muggles). Byrne lived a few doors down from her family so she got acquainted with him fast, while Keevan moved in their area at the age of 7. Following her acceptance to Hogwarts, and the subsequent secrecy surrounding her school, Keevan and Lies grew distant, their relationship strained. Ranyu hopes to rekindle their friendship during her studies in Hogwarts with letters, once she learns technology won’t work there - something Keevan couldn’t comprehend (it’s 2024, what do you mean you can only send letters?). The Byrne and Lies family stayed close, maintaining regular contact despite the difficult and confusing circumstances. In primary, Lies grades fluctuated between low average and average due to her being consumed by her hobbies. She's stubborn on her opinions, and while she is open to hearing people out, she often gets defensive if her views are challenged. She enjoys learning about her interests and finds it difficult to focus on things she cares little for. She enjoys receiving validation for her academic achievements. From a very early age she showed avid interest in the woodlands near their home and became a bug collector and adores learning botany from her green thumb family.
