Wand: A wand of walnut wood and phoenix feather that is 24.1cm long and is unyielding.
Wood: According to Ollivander, walnut woods gravitate towards highly intelligent witches and wizards, who are innovators and the wood offers unusual versatility and adaptability. This wood is considered difficult to dominate, but once mastered, it will be a powerful ally to the witch or wizard wielding it, as long as they are of “sufficient brilliance”. However, it can be a dangerous and lethal combination with a witch or wizard who lacks consciousness and the coupling may feed off one another in an unhealthy manner.
Core: The rarest core that is also the pickiest regarding their owner. They are capable of the greatest range of magic. Initially it might take longer to learn and master and tame, but once done, hold a strong bond and a hard won allegiance.
Wand Flexibility: A wand with this flexibility is particularly good at combative and healing magic. Unyielding wand owners tend to be very confident in themselves and/or in the things they believe in and won’t stray from their beliefs. They also tend to be intelligent and also somewhat cynical, which can lead to arrogance because of them insisting on how right they are, no matter what.

Appearance
╚═════════════════════════╝
Physical Description: Rike stands at 4’8”, average for her age. She’s of slender-average build with a clear, pale complexion. She doesn’t stand out but is aware she’s what some would consider “pretty”. She has large deep blue-green eyes and medium brown-auburn hair. She wears it pulled back in a ponytail or messy bun most days as it’s long, full-bodied and just past her shoulders.
Personal Style: Rike enjoys a more casual look for everyday that include blue jeans, a plain top and a plaid button down over shirt. However, when working in Elspeth’s shop, she makes sure to wear plain black clothing and work robes, similar to what her aunt wears. Her mother prefers Rike to be more presentable in her dress, especially when going out and when non-family company is over because they are a well-known and ancient pure blood family, so Rike then wears simple A-line skirts, blouses, vests, cardigans and proper robes. Her mother doesn’t permit makeup as she’s still quite young.

Stand-offishPersonality & Mental Description: Rike is an independent, rational and hard-working girl who finds she does get along with most, though not all and the majority on a surface level at best. While she does get along with many, finding close friends for her is more of a challenge. She’s very emotionally distant and is quite stand-offish and arrogant, so while she can be someone to interact with socially and minimally, she remains guarded and makes making friends quite difficult. She’s headstrong and determined, as she is a perfectionist and is most critical of herself, with her peers finding they, too cannot escape her judgement nor criticisms. She’s not genius level intelligent as she does have to put in the work to achieve her grades. She’s curious and does like to learn but finds she really has to push herself in subjects she finds boring. Outwardly, appears social and confident, which she is, but Rike truly prefers her solitude. She can be rude, arrogant, condescending, and judgmental, especially when it comes to others who she feels is beneath her and when she feels like someone is being foolish. She’s incredibly hard-working and will do whatever it takes to come out on top.
One thing that Rike will have to face upon being at Hogwarts is facing her family’s belief in blood supremacy and her family’s legacy. She was brought up to believe that her being a pure-blood witch from a long line of powerful, wealthy pure-blood witches and wizards from both families is something to be proud of and to understand that they are more superior to Muggles. Socially within the constraints of school, she can interact with those who are half-blood and Muggle-born, however anything beyond courteous professionalism is frowned upon. It has been impressed upon her since birth that as a pure-blood witch from a respectable and ancient bloodline, Rike needs to prove that she is the best in everything she does and do whatever it takes to be ahead. With this knowledge of her ancient family line, there is a bit of arrogance.

Rike Bauer | First Year | Slytherin
Pre-Hogwarts & Family History: Growing up in Edinburgh, Scotland in a pure-blood family, Rike had always been surrounded by magic. Her parents come from families whose parents were witches and wizards and their parents and so on. Her father, Alistair is Scottish and attended Hogwarts as did his siblings, parents, grandparents, etc. While most were in Slytherin, there were a number in Ravenclaw as well.╔═════════════════════════╗
Family & Pre-Hogwarts History
╚═════════════════════════╝
Her mother, Lisette, is German and attended Durmstrang Institute. While stories of her father and his family are recounted often of their time at Hogwarts, Lisette never really opened up about her time at school. She does have a long scar on her hand and wrist that she did say was acquired during a Charms class during her tenure at school. It is also known Lisette did excel in school as she did mention her top grades and desire to work abroad.
Her parents met while working for the British Ministry and while their accounts of whether it was instant attraction or not (Lisette says no, Alistair says yes), what did matter to both families was that they were a respectable match, since both came from long histories of pure-blood families. With this long tradition of keeping the families of pure-blood, came along feelings of blood supremacy.
While it isn’t as outwardly shown as it was a century ago, it still leaves its mark in how Rike, her parents and family view the world as a whole. The family does believe that wizardkind do have supremacy over Muggles. And while they have been shown that half-blooded and even Muggle born witches and wizards can hold their own, for their family, they do prefer to keep the family of pure-blood and only respectable matches approved. With this also comes minimal social interactions and if needing to speak or work with someone of lesser status, to show basic common professionalism.
So it wasn’t a question of if but rather when Rike would show her first sign of magic. She comes from a small immediate family. Lisette and Alistair each have only two other siblings each. Alistair has an older sister named Elspeth and a younger brother named Callum. Lisette has two older brothers, Severin and Eckhart and her family name is von Fenrich. Rike’s aunt and uncles would come by and visit during the holidays and Callum, who works for the Ministry in the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes, would always have at least three new exciting stories to share each visit.
Rike always looked up to her Aunt Elspeth, who ran her own potions, ingredients and apothecary shop. She’s a potions master and it was something that always fascinated Rike and loved visiting her in her shop, even assisting Elspeth in the two years before Rike was off to Hogwarts. Her parents did well for themselves, too, even though Lisette came from nobility and Alistair’s family had acquired a great deal of wealth. Both families instilled the desire to go out and make their own way, but they still can live quite comfortably no matter what that looked like.
Rike’s parents both worked for the Ministry like Callum, but in rather more mundane jobs compared to him, but it meant more stability and able to spend time together as a family for dinner at night, which was a cherished tradition. Lisette worked in the Improper Use of Magic office and Alistair worked in The International Magical Trading Standards Body. He tried to explain once what he did but Rike found it boring so he stopped explaining when her eyes glazed over. Rike just knows her mother’s office keeps track of underage witches and wizards who use magic, so no getting away with practicing outside school.
So while Rike had a wonderful, privileged childhood, she is so excited to go to school and finally delve into her classes and becoming a powerful witch.

First Instance of Magic
╚═════════════════════════╝My first instance of Magic was when I was about three years old. Mum tells the story repeatedly because she said it was just “so precious”. Apparently I was upset over something as toddlers are and I was just crying nonstop. Mum was tired and fed up and put me to bed. As she was coming in to check in on me, since I had miraculously stopped my tears, she walked in to see that I had summoned my stuffed animals into a dance to get me to stop crying and seeing that made mum cry and laugh all at once. Dad came home a little later and told him all about it and he says that he was so proud he wrote owls to his siblings. The story is a favorite of my mum’s to tell people because she “couldn’t imagine something more sweet” and each tell of the story involves an eye roll from me.

~ Rike applied for Prodigal Potions Learner
ReducioRike grew up around magic, but there was a particular magic that always captivated her. It involved a potion, ingredient and apothecary shop in Edinburgh run by her aunt, Elspeth Bauer. Ever since she could remember, Rike would visit the shop, not just to spend time with her aunt, but to explore the shelves and watch her work with the grace only a potions master could emit. With wide, captivated eyes, Rike would watch Elspeth take these ingredients that might not have anything to do with one another and with a particular crush, cut, stir or flick of her wand, she'd watch her aunt brew the solution to someone's cold, someone's heartache or even to get an edge on the competition.
There was something that just seemed even more magical about potions and their ingredients. Sure, watching her mother tap her wand and then books fly back on the shelves or a wand flick over the pots and pans and they'd start cleaning themselves was always impressive, there was something more about what Elspeth and her little shop contained. As Rike grew older, she'd assist her aunt in the shop, putting ingredients back on the shelves where they were supposed to go or learning to carefully measure out ingredients for shoppers. While she wasn't a paid employee, Elspeth paid her in a more lasting fashion: knowledge. When there was downtime, she'd call Rike over and show her what she was brewing and she'd even test her on the ingredients, their origin, what they're known for and what potions they might be found in. Rike, while still young, showed an interest and a knack for the items and knowledge found within the shop and it didn't go unnoticed.
For her 10th birthday, Rike received a prized book from her aunt: her own copy of Arsenius Jigger's book, Potion Opuscule and the most recent copies of Mixture Monthly and Practical Potioner. While she had no idea about how to brew some of the more obscure and complicated potions found in the journals, it still showed her that this was an interest worth nurturing and that she had support to do so. Rike read those journals cover to cover multiple times that year, making notes in the margins and her copy of Potion Opuscule was covered in ink notes and dog-eared pages of important things to remember. She'd read her book in between helping Elspeth in the shop, even Elspeth allowing Rike to prepare some basic ingredients for her customer's custom concoctions.
So, when Rike received her admission owl from Hogwarts, she was so excited to take a flip through of her new potions book that she picked up with her parents in Diagon Alley. She read the book, taking notes the last few weeks of that summer before she was due to leave for Hogwarts. Upon packing her trunk, she made sure to not only take her new supplies, but to include her marked up copies of the journals and book. Rike couldn't contain her excitement to finally try her own hand at the type of magic that has captivated her interest and imagination all these years.
