Letters from the First Year
2 September
Dear Mum and Dad,
I miss you both so much already, I didn’t think going away to school would be so hard but I honestly am also so excited to be here. In order to tell you about my night, I should first tell you about the biggest news!
I was sorted into Slytherin! I know that mostly comes at little surprise, but I still am very excited to share the same house as dad. The castle is huge! I don’t know how I will be able to find my way around, as I already got turned around just going with the prefect and the other first years to the common room. But once we got to the dorms and common room, I was blown away!
The common room is right next to the black lake and has giant, floor to ceiling windows that look out into the depths. I admit, at night it was really creepy. I felt like I was being watched but couldn’t see anything. But this morning, when the sun was hitting the water, the color and light flowed into the room and looked really pretty.
It’s a comfy common room with so many comfortable oversized couches, chairs, blankets and tables with bookcases, tapestries, artifacts and paintings lining the walls. The dorm I am in was easy enough to find, thank goodness. I share a room with 4 or 5 other first year girls and I think they seem nice so far.
My bed is huge and so comfy! I passed out pretty quick last night after the journey to school, sorting and welcome feast. That feast had everything you could’ve wanted. And it was so good, though nothing beats the food our house elf, Toady and mum cook for us.
I just wanted to get a quick little letter off before my first day of classes to let you know I got here okay and where I was sorted. I miss you both so much and cannot wait to see you over the Christmas holidays!
