Fabian stands at about 6' 1", not considered an intimidating figure by most. It is his cutting hazel eyes and intense presence that causes those who interact to immediately assume he is a scary, strong, silent stoic. Fabian takes great pride in his appearance, hair always neatly styled and cared for and though he keeps a stubble it is maintained. His well-tailored clothes flatter lithe and muscular figure, and he is most often found in some form of business wear. He wouldn't be caught dead in anything less than business casual. There is a dragon tattoo on the inside of his right forearm and a vine on his left wrist.

Fabian, in a word, is assertive. Though deemed cold and unapproachable by his overall intense appearance, he is really quite sociable and enjoys human interaction. A critical thinker to his bone, there is not an issue he cannot apply logic to. He also possesses the bluntness of a mace and does not hesitate to vocalize his judgements, however much he may regret it later. Instinctual and confident, leadership comes naturally to him, and he often emerges as a leader in his circles.
early life / first instance

August 16th, 1990, could be considered both a new beginning and a beginning of an end, depending on how you took the event of Fabian Richard Fleischer's birth. He was born to people who got along about as well as oil and water and a lifestyle that went about as well as trying to mix the two. His father, Reiner Fleischer, was a wizard and a professional duellist who wasn't famous yet. His mother was a nonmagi woman who wanted nothing to do with any of that. She was an actually successful businesswoman with a rapidly growing career. Neither were willing to compromise, yet they were convinced all would be well since they were young and totally in love. Or so they thought.

The two carved out a somewhat peaceful coexistance in Hanover, he blazing his way through the duelling circuits of magical Lower Saxony, and she contentedly making bank in the city. They didn't
have to interact with the other's world much at all, though Reiner was always throroughly pissed that he couldn't use his magic and tended to vocalize such. It was when she became pregnant then
had their son that things really went downhill.

For four years, the relationship deteriorated further and further as they figured out their tolerant coexistence had no bearing on their disasterous coparenting, and in the spring of 1994 she moved
to a different part of the country, on to bigger and better things. It was Reiner and Fabian in for the long haul.

Through his years of duelling, Reiner had developed a following. The Butcher, as he was known, caught the attention of League One duelling and was asked by Berlin's very own team to join.
Reiner, ever longing for the spotlight, showman as he was, totally uprooted himself and Fabian and moved them to Berlin.

For a couple months, as Reiner gained his footing in the duelling community and rebuilt his wizarding wealth, they lived in nonmagi Spandau. Fabian found a quiet existence, mostly left to his own devices throughout the days, content to watch the birds on the powerlines or tie his blanket as a cape and pretend to fly around the house and building forts with the couch cushions. One of the
neighbors worked in motorcycle manufacturing, which the young child found endlessly interesting. It was here his first great love, that of motorcycles and machines, began, pestering the neighbor
for hours on end and dreaming of having his own one day.

This was a short time of his life, however, and Reiner relocated them to magical Berlin with haste. Fabian spent far too much time in the practice club for a boy his age, watching dutifully with his sharp Atlantic ocean eyes as his father blasted man after man with spell after spell and got knocked down only to get up again with that wicked red gleam in his eye and his cocky smile.
This was where his second great love, that of duelling, began.

The Butcher's reputation preceded him, and he soon rose to star athlete on the team. Though able to afford all the niceties of wizarding life and one of the most lavish homes the neighborhood
had to offer, he was always off somewhere doing something, gathering more attention, being the showman both on the piste and off, hungering for more thrill, more anything. And while he was by no means a good man, he was a decent enough father to realize his son needed more. Fabian needed a mother. Enter Lydia Burgstaller, nanny and tutor and overall extraordinary woman.

The change was very sudden for young Fabian, no longer left to his own devices for hours on end and having to submit to an authority. He did not like it one bit. But as kind and gentle as she was, her guiding hand was firm and her spirit unwavering. It was an adjustment to be certain, but once made was all the better for both nanny and charge.

Lydia had her own son, Diethard, and he was wonderful too. He liked sketching. He would draw Fabian pictures of motorcycles on his homework sometimes. Fabian adored Diet, was his little shadow every moment they were together. He also adored Lydia, calling her Mama in no time at all.

And as Fabian grew closer to those who were raising him, Reiner grew farther away from his son, and even from the law. While the man was a talent in every respect, his eyes were always on ways to become better, and always out for blood. He used banned spells. He defied the rules of professional duelling more times and could be excused, he even managed to get himself and illegal wand, and he was banned from the league and the industry of professional duelling when Fabian was six years old.

This simply would not do.

The underground circuit welcomed the Butcher with open arms, inviting him to a stage more tantalizing than ever before. And from there, mercenary work. But Reiner was not meant to be a quiet exterminator as a man for hire should be: he was meant to be a showman. He was known, and he was hated.

Fabian was nine when they tried to kill his father. They attacked the home, getting past the heavy enchantments and revealing Reiner's secrets by almost ending Fabian. Reiner kept them safe, but at the cost of his life as a free man. Father went to Azkaban and son was adopted by Lydia. His first instance of magic showed roughly four months later, and a few months after that he attended Durmstrang Institute for his first year of wizarding education.

His first instance of magic was nothing short of a miracle to the young Fleischer. Diethard simply couldn't be more annoying, Fabian decided. They were finally true brothers and the first thing he had to do was hide Fabian's things. The younger boy tore through his room, searching under every piece of furniture, across every surface, through all available drawers, even underneath the rug for his new drawing pencils. By the end of his day-long search, they were nowhere to be found and his room looked like he'd had his own personal tornado in there.

And it was supposed to be spotless because lazy Saturdays were for cleaning.

Fabian could already hear Lydia calling his name, walking down the hall, the dread of angering her seizing him and causing him to freeze when he should've been scrambling to reverse his tornado. He ran out of his room in a foolish attempt to stop Lydia, but she quickly moved past him, only to congratulate the boy on a spotless cleaning job. When Fabian looked back into the room, it truly was spotless, even better than when he had cleaned it before. And his drawing pencils were right on his desk.

Fabian’s time at Durmstrang was marked by the absence of Diethard (an unfortunate late bloomer) and Lydia most of all, and by the familiarity of his former life. He learned Russian, but only passively and for his friend Sergei's sake. He refused to use it throughout his education, instead defaulting to his native German and a multitude of the many diverse languages used by fellow students. He held an intense dislike, pure hatred in some cases, for these authorities who had no right to tell him what to do, in his mind. They didn’t know shit about him, didn’t know what was right for him, didn’t know the fire they were playing with.

Combat magic came as a natural focus for Fabian's predicted trajectory. It allowed him to channel what he felt into a tangible effort. It allowed the unpredictable storm inside to result in consistent output of strong and dangerous magic. It made him feel better. It made him feel more in control.

As his time in Durmstrang continued, he became a more stable individual. Fabian’s life was finally stable, with a loving mother and brother to come home to after months of structured instruction and secluded safety at Durmstrang. He made close friends, he gathered mentors through his teachers, he became less of the volatile young boy emulating his volatile father coming from a volatile life, and more of the strong man those around him knew he could be. He drifted away from combat magic far before his fifth year, choosing the more interesting and challenging dark arts for his focus on his final three years. Though duelling held a bittersweet place in his hard and none could deny he was absolutely brilliant at it, being one of the best duellists on Durmstrang's team for several years, he couldn’t bear to follow in Reiner’s footsteps professionally. He wanted to use his magic in different ways than blowing people up.

Fabian graduated, moving back to his home country and searching for job opportunities in magical Berlin, found an avenue in security under a well-established ward setter, working his way up to the level of his teacher through many years. Fabian eventually surpassed his teacher, and carved his own way in the ward setter community as a talented upstart. He opened his business internationally, to Eurasia alone at first but eventually making his way into South America, Oceania, Africa, and finally landing in North America, specifically at Ilvermorny. While improving and renewing the wards around the castle and grounds, he was asked to consider taking up the role of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, seeing as their previous one had recently stepped down. Fabian was reluctant to say the least, but the new salary was nothing to sneeze at. And well, if he didn’t like it, he’d just move on out and go back to the contractual ward setter life. He was only twenty-six, after all.

Fabian was born to teach. Perhaps Lydia’s skill with children had worn off onto him, perhaps they just shared a personality for it, or maybe Fabian liked kids more than he’d ever think. He quickly earned the respect of his coworkers for his effective teaching and natural leadership in the classroom and out. DADA professor joined with Head of Wampus house after five years due to a staff shortage, and what was once meant to be a temporary position has lingered. Fabian has no complaints, however, he truly enjoys both facets of his job.

After the tragedy of the Pyre at Hogsmeade and the disappearance of Lazarus Plott, Fabian rose to become the Headmaster of Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in late October, 2024.

sarai toussaint-fleischer - beloved wife
Fabian and Sarai met on one of Fabian's many international jobs shortly before he became professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts for Ilvermorny. Both intellectuals of sharp wit and sharper tongues, friendship bloomed naturally from tentative acquaintanceship. Sarai had been left adrift by her ex-partner, the father of her twin sons. But, majorly unbeknownst to Fabian, who was just trying to figure out what exactly he felt about the incredible herbologist, with his adventurous spirit and his trusty magic motorcycle he helped her rekindle her spirit. Fabian ended up settling in Haiti, in the little port town shielded from the non-magical world, where he returned every summer break from the American wizarding school to the people he called family even then. Friendship evolved into romance despite time and distance and for the past six (almost seven) years Sarai and Fabian have remained happily together. On October 19th of 2024, he proposed to Sarai, and they will be married in the summer.
