APPEARANCE
Reducio
Her eyes are a dark chocolate brown, so dark that they could be mistaken for black at a distance. Standing at a height of 5'5", Aiko is used to being being a little taller than most woman, another failing that her mother likes to point out. Her most striking feature is her hair. Naturally black, Aiko frequently changes the color using her magic. Right now it's a striking orangish pink, and falla straight halfway down her back. She has no interest in cutting her hair, usually letting it fall where it may after a quick brush. If it gets in her face or bothers her too much than she just pulls it into a ponytail or bun to keep off her neck or out of her face. While she doesn't really care for skincare, she's been lucky to be graced with natural pale and smooth skin.

PERSONALITY
Reducio
Aiko likes to say she's independent but many others would probably use terms like argumentative, stubborn, and downright mulish. Refusing to admit she's wrong unless she's presented with concrete proof, Aiko very rarely changes her mind. Contrary to her mother's wishes, she never hesitates to share those opinions even if they may not have been asked for.

But that being said, she is a caring, empathetic person. Frequently she can be found in her classroom, helping students who are struggling with the material or want to improve their transfiguration skills.

She struggles with following, but usually only in situations where she has the better ideas. This has been a bit of struggle for her since coming to Mahoutokoro but she's also learned the limits, and contrary to popular belief, she can pretend to acquiesce. Usually only to the Headmistress and Deputy but that's enough to keep her job.

There's no mistaking that she's an extrovert, thriving on spending time with others, even to the detriment of grading or preparing sometimes. She enjoys trying new things and experiences, and strives to try something new at least once a month.

HISTORY
Reducio
Born May 18th, 1986 to Kameko and Nao Mori in Hirosaki, Japan, Aiko knew from a young age all about magic. Her mother Kameko (pure-blood) and her father Nao (half-blood) were overjoyed with their daughter but for very different reasons. Kameko because she had a daughter to mold and turn into the perfect young woman, and Nao because he had a healthy child. Aiko spent most of her younger childhood with her mother, her father at a bit of a loss as to what to do with the young child. But Aiko admittedly struggled. Her mother had a very clear vision of what her daughter should do and what she should be interested from. And from a very young age, Aiko just…wasn’t. She had no interest in playing quietly with dolls, and she absolutely hated the feeling of dresses. She couldn’t describe it as a child but it just felt weird not having something encasing her legs. She struggled to walk gracefully when she finally did learn to walk and she did not excel at any of the skills her mother thought a young girl should. Aiko frequently raised her voice above a moderate tone, and she had a hard time ensuring no one knew what she was thinking. To her mother that was not acceptable.

By age 6, Aiko knew that she did not enjoy spending time with her mother, and would sneak out of the house to run around and hide from her mother. Her father by this time finally felt comfortable with Aiko now that she was more independent and started to take her places and teach her things. They weren’t necessarily things her mother approved of, because what did Nao know about those kinds of things, but Aiko certainly enjoyed them much better than her mother’s lessons. Nao taught her to ride a bike, how to skip rocks and climb trees. Those lessons tended to happen on the weekend, mainly because Nao had a demanding job during the week working for the Japanese Ministry of Magic, and had very little time during the week to do those types of things. Her mother was a stay-at-home mother on the other hand and spent quite a bit of time correcting Aiko on the “proper” way to do things, if Aiko couldn’t make her escape in time.

At age 5, Aiko's mother had been hounding her to study her calligraphy, but honestly Aiko was just done. Frustrated at how her mother never seemed to find satisfaction in anything she did, Aiko snuck out the back door while her mother was distracted receiving the daily mail, and choosing the invitations she would accept. Letting out a large sigh, Aiko had moved towards the tree in the corner that she preferred, her mother never seeming to look up and her father having given her a few lessons on tree climbing. Almost to the bottom branch, Aiko heard both the opening of the backdoor and her mother's quiet yell. You would think those terms c contradictory and impossible but her mother had mastered the skill. Grimacing, Aiko looked at the distance between her and the lowest branch, realizing she likely would not have time to stand on her tip toes and grab it before her mother caught her. Resigned to getting caught and forced back inside, Aiko closed her eyes. Opening them she was shocked to see the branch at eye level. Looking down, she gasped as her feet were just off the ground. Realizing she must have levitated, her first sign of having magic, she panicked as her mother's call sounded again. Grabbing the branch in desperation, she pulled herself up and moved quickly to conceal herself.

Then at age 7, the potted miniature cherry blossom tree appeared, and after hearing the stories, Aiko knew that meant her life was about to change. Her parents had made sure she could read and write, as well as do some basic math but both knew Mahoutokoro would do a better job at teaching her the skills to excel in academia than she could. So off she went, first as a day student and then as a boarding student. Aiko was not necessarily the best of students but neither was she the worst. The two areas she tended to excel at were Transfiguration and Study of Magical Creatures. Maybe because they were the two that interested her the most. Transfiguration was interesting because Aiko just loved transforming one thing to another mainly, including changing her hair color frequently as a teenager (and even now as an adult, she loves choosing a new color each month). Study of Magical Creatures was just interesting. It was dealing with creatures that could not speak or point directly to an issue, and required puzzle work to figure out what was wrong or what they need.

Her mother was critical that she wasn’t top of her class in everything, and even more frustrating was that Aiko really did not ever learn to be a very graceful or particularly quiet, calming individual. Aiko never hesitated to speak her opinion and would not defer to anyone else when she felt she was right. Not to mention her skills in the home were abysmal, mostly because she had no interest in learning and there were much more interesting things to be done.

After graduating from Mahoutokoro, Aiko wasn't sure what she wanted to do but knew it was not the arranged marriage that her mother envisioned. So with regret she said goodbye to her father and left to travel the world. She first ended up in Australia, just roaming around until she was talking to a stranger in a restaurant about different transfiguration theories. It was then she was offered a tutor position to make sure the brother of the stranger was going to be in a better position to ace his transfiguration classes. That lasted the summer, and then Aiko was recommended to teach some basics to the magical children who were going to school the next year to make sure they were ready to excel when they attended school. That lasted just until her first “class” was ready to attend their proper schooling and then Aiko felt she had stayed too long in Australia. From there to New Zealand, but this time she was prepared and had made connections ahead of time to continue the tutoring.

And so it continued, a mix of preparing young witches and wizards for their wizarding schooling and helping older students be more prepared or do better in their classes for the year. She visited numerous places, including Canada, the United States, Britain, China, and the list goes on and on.

But four years ago, her mother called. Aiko had stayed in touch quite frequently with her father but her mother’s phone calls were rare and full of disappointment that Aiko was not married and had children by now. Typically she make her mother leave a voice message and then determine if she would call her back based on the voicemail. But this call would be a little different. Her father had been affected by Dragon Pox, and was not doing well. Aiko gave her regrets to her current students and immediately returned to her parent’s home. Her father thankfully recovered but Aiko had been reminded that eventually her family would no longer be there and she determined that she would stay nearby so she could make more frequent visits than what she had been.

So with determination, she marched straight to Mahoutokoro and admittedly with more bravado than anything talked herself into the position of Professor of Transfiguration. She struggled that first year with the more structured schooling, but once she knew what to expect and what was expected of her, she was better able to teach her students. Aiko could also frequently be found in her classroom, helping students who were struggling with the material or just wanted to be better at Transfiguration.
