Well, if I could say anything after all you’ve gassed on about that forest and your fascination for magical beasts and stuff when we talked at camp, I’d say your wish has finally come true. You’ve probably seen your first inhuman creature up close.

All jokes aside, if they’re as that sketchy as you’ve put them out to be in your letter then it’s worth looking into. If you’re going to try and locate their whereabouts then do it quietly and out of sight. Creatures hide in the shadows for a reason. Take advantage of that. Might help you get closer than you think - with your monster neighbours I mean. It might be a different story with Mr. Sketchy, though we don't know that for sure until you hoke around a little for any other clues.

Send me that fabric over too. I want to see it for myself. I’ll get to work and see what I dig up. Chances are it's Wizarding World related, so I might come across something I recognise that you might not. I'll let you know what I find, both the fabric and for Nick. I've been reaching out to a couple people who might know about Nick's case. They haven't responded to my letters though, those cowards.

Same goes for you. You’ll tell me what you find if you dig something up yeah? Stay safe out there. It won’t do you good trying to appeal to magical creatures if you get eaten in the middle of the night.

I know how much all this means to you, so don't blow it for yourself.

Hi...!

How've you been? I know you've probably been busy with your own school studies and all, but have you found anything about the fabric I sent you? Not that I'm trying to rush you... I'm just curious, that's all.

I went on two other trips back into the forest for more clues but what I've suspected is true... There's nothing else left to find. I keep going back to the same spot where I first found the fabric and took little tours in the surrounding paths and areas to try and determine where the stranger may have gone but there's absolutely nothing.

But I've also got something else to tell you, and I swear this is true!

During dinner the other evening, one of our professors...

Brace yourself...

He announced to the entire student body that he's a werewolf... A werewolf!

I had no idea werewolves were here at Hogwarts. It made me think if there was anyone else that might be one... There were a lot of howls that followed after he came out with that shocking revelation. It's led me to believe there actually might be student werewolves too! I mean, if werewolves could teach, then they could be taught too right? The thought of being in class with a werewolf still has me giddy!

I have so many questions but with how touchy the subject is, I'd probably get chastised for asking any of them. Just going by word of mouth alone, werewolves put up with an awful lot of inconveniences and I'd rather not add to that by hoking around the school and looking for other lycanthropes... And don't even ask me about asking the professor who fessed up about his own lycanthropy! No doubt he's gone through more than his fair share of trouble when it came to his condition. It would be rude and we both know it.

But don't you see? This is good! It already showcases how close humans and magical beings can be in a neutral environment! And even without the knowledge of them being different, they're shown to be emotional and understanding just like any other living creature.

Honestly, I have nothing but admiration and immense respect for those folks out there who may be in the same boat. I'll definitely be thinking about this reveal for a while.

All the more reason to keep pushing at my efforts and find ways for others to accept them willingly and openly like I do and for people like them to feel comfortable without hiding themselves in apprehension.

Well I'll be damned. A werewolf... Can't say I saw that coming.

I can see why you'd be hesitant to ask questions but you got to remember that folks like them only hide themselves away because they're scared. These are the same guys that are discriminated and forced into real shitty conditions if people find out too soon, arguably worse so than vampires. If they were the ones that came out before someone questioned them about it, people would probably shun them. If others came to them compassionately, they most likely wouldn't be so reserved.

Those that do reveal themselves without hesitation mean they ain't got anything to lose, and have probably found acceptance about those sides of themselves. That teacher you talked about is probably in a comfortable enough position to share that side of him. After all the good that some werewolves try to do, his is a good example of a werewolf without letting that tarnish his reputation, being a respectable teacher and stuff. Unlike some others I've heard about. But much of that comes from history books. Nowadays, society is warming up to them. Pity that some jerkoffs want to cling onto the past.

Stew on that for a bit before you ever decide to ask him. That doesn't mean you can't snoop about a little to find werewolf students. You said before you heard a few similar voices - saying that, they could've just been showing support like you. Just don't dive into it guns-blazing. Lycanthropy can get real messy in conversations. I ain't got anything personal against them myself but let's just say no one is as empathetic about them as you are. Even some werewolves despise themselves to the point that death sounds pleasant to them. So if you're going to interrogate a few chosen individuals, go about it carefully.

As for your fabric...

I managed to get that piece you found looked at. Mom knew a lady who’s good with needle work. She can read old stitch work like fading chalk on a chalkboard. She gave a quick look at it and thinks it used to say “Dairius”... Apparently... Don't know what that’s supposed to mean. She said she’s never heard of it but figured it might be an old, outdated company name or something. I've never heard of it so I ain't got a clue.

If you know anything that sounds similar for a second opinion, spill it. I’ll take a look myself in case something comes up on my end.

"Dairius..." Well I've looked into it and I couldn't find anything noteworthy on the term. All I found is that it's a name that translates to "possessing wealth." But if you're hoping for something a little more specific than that, I'm afraid I don't think I'll be able to help you more on that. Sorry... Though with any luck, you'll have already uncovered more for yourself. Hopefully.

Following up on our werewolf revelation, I'm going to try and find someone in my House who might know something. An upperclassman. She was one of the few "howling" on the night of the reveal. She sounded a little more on the feral side rather than just simple friendly support. Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but if she actually does know a thing or two about any werewolves in the school then it can't hurt to ask. And if I'm wrong, we'll agree to pretend we never talked.

On a different note... You're coming to the Autumn Ball, aren't you? Only as friends of course. I just think it would be good to catch up, don't you? Since summer camp, it's clear a lot has happened and it's hard to talk about everything in letters.

So what do you say? Will you indulge in a Hogwarts Badger and accompany me to the ball?

I couldn’t find anything related to “Dairius.” Not a single place with that name. Not even as a family name. And given your response it seems we've hit a dead end. Don’t wanna be a downer but I think you just found a shirt with some “cool” and “trendy” logo on it. Jesus, and your investigation barely started too. You sure you didn't see that guy's face? There must've been something else other than some flimsy piece of cotton.

Good luck on the wolf hunt. Remember, don't rush into accusations or a bajillion questions. If they have something to say, let them say it. If not, walk away.

I've received two replies following up on the witnesses for Nick's investigation. One of them told me to piss off, which I found charming. The other told me the details were too horrific for them to recount. At least that's something. It means there's someone who actually knows something. I just need to apply a little more force if I'm to get an answer out of them.

As for the Ball. Sure. I'll tag along. Gives me something to do. Gives us both a break as well, I guess. But if you're bringing the Knocker of Jinxes with you then I'm going to stand back and watch you, alright? I don't want to be flipendo-ed in front of an entire fricking dancefloor. Scratch that. I don't want to be flipendo-ed again. Period.

Hi!

I managed to find that upperclassman I mentioned before! I'll not say her name but what a part of me suspected was true... She's a werewolf! And she pretty much said what I thought she would. Her scepticism is understandable but her resilience is truly something. Makes me appreciate magical beings all the more.

And all the more reason why I need to do further research. That girl is one of many who's tired of waiting for change, and experiencing "aid" that does nothing. I'm going to try and ask a few more people, both human and beyond. The more people, the bigger the range and better my findings.

There's one guy in particular I'm keen to ask but I think it might be too soon. It's not the teacher I told you about. It's someone else. I've ran into him a few times (one of them quite literally). We know each other... But maybe not too well? I don't know... I could very well end up being wrong even if I did ask him. I'm going to give it more thought before I jump into it.

I'm guessing not much has come up about Nick? I know you mentioned getting in contact with some people that might know something, but given your lack of updates I'm assuming not much has gone beyond that? Well, we can discuss more of that in person when you arrive for the Autumn Ball.

Oh right! You're probably wondering what's in the parcel I sent you with this letter! Well, back home I collect a few comics - You said your mum got you some before in the past, right? So maybe you're already familiar with them. Well, this one here just came out recently. Fun fact, it was a TV show back home! Auntie watched it all the time when she was a little younger. She kept all the DVDs and stuff for me to watch growing up too!

It sounded like something right up your alley so I asked her to get a copy of the comic adaptation for you!

Hey Em,

I made it back to Ilvermorny in one piece. After all that I'm kinda glad to be back. Might even be a nice change of vibes now that Plott is gone. Never cared for him. He did jack when Nick disappeared. It seems he got a taste of what that feels like... Which still bothers me to this day. Still, investigators are already looking into the matter. All we can do now is wait and see what happens from there.

My folks have been pestering me about what happened. I know they mean well and I'm sure as comforting as it is for them to see that their only other son is still alive, it's kind of bugging me... Mom is relentless with her letters at the minute and dad keeps giving me draughts and potions he's made himself to take at night to "take the edge off." Parents will be parents I guess.

I'm going to try chasing up on those jokers that now about the incident with Nick. I'm also going to try following more of your advice and do the whole "making friends" thing another go. No promises though.

Because believe it or not, you're the only one - aside from maybe Zyair as well I guess - that I actually want to hang around with.

Take it as a compliment if you want. You're just tolerable is all I'm saying.

I'm glad you're starting to loosen up a bit after the stuff before the Ball. Thanks for going with me by the way. I value your wellbeing and the time we spend together, you know. Nothing like what you're thinking, just to be clear. Like Scout, I think you're a cool friend.

Try not to let Plott's disappearance get to you. It all sounds very suspicious, I know, but it's like you said - there's nothing more for us to do on that front. Justice and the truth will come out, in some shape or form, sooner or later.

I know we didn't really talk an awful lot about it last time, but I have a strong feeling I'll be heading out there pretty soon. I'm still not ready, but I can feel the time coming. And when it does, I'll let you know what I find.

I'll be on the lookout for any more clues that could help you. In the meantime, it's back to debunking Hogwarts's hidden tragedies and new ways to safeguard our half-human friends for me.

Yo,

Just making sure you're still alright. I haven't heard from you in a while so I was beginning to think something happened. Nothing has actually happened to you, right?

Anyway, I've been trying to make friends like I promised. I think I'm getting the hang of conversations now, but I'm still not sitting with other people during dinner yet. I'm alright talking to people in class and sometimes outside of it, but that's really about it so far. I can't remember the last time I ever felt this awkward in front of other people. I guess I need more time to build up my communication skills.

You never said that it would be this hard to make friends.

Anyway, write back soon. The fact that you've suddenly gone silent on me has me a little annoyed... And sort of freaked out down here.
