Summer Duels: Day 2 Spectator

Sunday 11th of August, 2024

After an action-packed month in the London Quidditch Stadium, the inter-school summer camp was finally coming to an end. Chock-full of fun events and sports days, the camp’s organizers had outdone themselves. And on the last weekend of their time together, camp attendants found themselves coming together one last time to support the various schools in what was sure to be a hard-fought duelling tournament. For the first time, the winners of Hogwarts’ Duelling Championship would be sitting out, allowing for their guests to take the spotlight. Duellests were assigned to mixed teams and spectators convened, intent on observing the blend of magic on display.

Whatever weather charms used to change summer to winter for the camp were turned up to eleven, ensuring that no duellist or spectator took on the heat of the sun that made its appearance over the weekend, shunning any cloud that came its way. Only one stage was constructed this year, so all duels could be viewed individually across the two days of the tournament. Students crowded the stands, wearing gear for chilly weather paired with wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses. A mixture of excitement and melancholy ran through the group as they gathered to watch some wild spell-slinging with the knowledge that home would be waiting for them once the duels were over.

The duel was finally getting underway and Tone was there to support his beloved friend, Akira. No one else was around at the time, they all probably had other things they needed to do but Tone was almost always there for his STAY group. STAY was something he'd comprised using only the first letters of the names of his closest friends, including himself. Sara, Tone, Akira and Yami. As Akira walked out onto the piste, Tone cheered for him. "Win, Akira!" He called out with a smile. Tone didn't recognize the other duelists but that didn't matter. The fifteen year old would learn about them and their techniques in the upcoming duel. Akira looked pristine in his gold robes and Tone was proud of him. He hoped Akira could continue to keep them for the rest of the time at Mahoutokoro. But such a feat did not come easily for any.

It was much harder to maintain the color than to get it for the first time. Akira and Manuela started off with a bang, both their spells cast perfectly and hit their opponents on the opposite side. However, the latter didn't try and cast any kind of spells on them. Tone wondered if they were still thinking about what to do against their opponents, or if they'd decided to go with the defensive approach to calculate what to do later. Still, the beginning of a duel was the best time to get out a flurry of spells. You were starting from a blank slate and not trying to do any kind of spell wasn't exactly the best approach to do. Perhaps this was their first time in an official duel? Maybe their nerves were getting the better of them. If that was the case, Tone felt a little bad for them. But it was in their best interest to at least try and do something, or anything.

Even if it didn't end up going anywhere. The next round had Akira casting a spell spread for the Wind Jinx but it fizzled out before being able to go anywhere. Tone grimaced but kept watching, hoping for the best when it came to his friend. He didn't want to cheer yet because distracting Akira would not be beneficial for him. After all, Tone wanted to make amends with him. Distracting him and causing him to lose his focus would NOT make anything better. So he just sat there, supporting him in silence for now. Until this round was over. At least Manuela managed to get a nice Cracker Jinx off, hitting both of their opponents. However, she also hit herself in the process. At least she didn't hit Akira. Enzo seemed able to break out of his nervousness and cast a healing spell on himself. However, Tina appeared to still be in shock about this.

Tone was waiting to see what would happen and if Akira's opponents would make a comeback and have it be a better match for his friend. But then the moderator signaled for a cease-fire and announced that Enzo had decided to forfeit for their team. Due to Tina's inability to continue. Well, Tone had seen that coming but had hoped for the best because that would have been better for both Akira and Manuela. Getting a win like this wasn't exactly something to be proud about and he suspected Akira wasn't feeling that great about it. Maybe he could help cheer him up later. With some tasty snacks. Or something along those lines. Or maybe even something else. Tone clapped along with the few others in the spectator seats, it was pretty much empty for some reason, and although he wanted to congratulate Akira and Manuela, Tone couldn't.

Not right now at least. Mostly because he knew how this would affect Akira. He wouldn't be able to accept this win because it was somewhat dishonorable. Akira himself hadn't done anything bad but to count it as a win when he did nothing to obtain it? It was more like he'd achieved victory rather than won anything, if that made sense. If Akira looked back at the stands where Tone was, Tone would smile at him and give him a nod and then stand up to try and find him after he walked off the piste. If Akira was too busy with other things, he'd leave him alone for now but if he wasn't, Tone would go out of his way to stick by his side. Even if he didn't talk to him, he'd stay with him. Sometimes just being in the company of others in silence was comforting enough on its own. He would also give him a chocolate bar to help raise his mood.
