Turning 13 had no bearing whatsoever in the work that Emily was trying to do the following day. One afternoon off only doubled the work she had to try and put in alongside the homework she was given after classes. She managed to get much of it started before turning her attention to the various documents detailing the rumours of Hogwarts and her meticulous research on Half-humans, all which overshadowed her notes on Potions and Jinxes in her rolls of parchment.
While not overburdened this time with the books that only continued to multiply every time she left the library on this fine afternoon, her lap was still hidden under the weight of paper and ink, pages scribbled and dotted with notes, facts and assumptions surrounding the creatures of the abyss. While she had yet to encounter any of what was recorded in her advanced research, she would rather spend all she could to soak up the nice weather and focus on fine-tuning her know-how on these "monsters" and crafting all the ways she could think up to befriend said creatures.
People could call it unethical, illogical, childish, naïve or otherwise, but it should've sunk in to other's heads by now that Emily was passionate to remove the foul stains on these creatures' reputation and find healthier ways to engage with them. Scout was a hecking dhampir. If those who shared her heritage were as "evil" as some others have claimed - textbooks or otherwise - then she ought to have bitten Emily in the neck by now. Same goes for Simon. He could've bitten Emily too if he wanted to, assuming he was meant to be descended from the "big bad scary vampires." But no. She had two dhampir friends; one who was admiringly flamboyant and another who was just a lovable bloke. Not quite the makings of a villain as far as Emily was concerned.
On the other hand, they were half-human for a reason - they were human. Does that single atom of humanity ultimately change the instinct of one's mixed biology? When one says "human," does that mean they have conscious thought? Do non-humans not have that? Is that what rational thinking is? Are morals for humans only, or can the creature possess them too?
Once again, the "Intent vs. Instinct" debate was spiralling out of control in Emily's head. When dinnertime rolled round the corner, Emily packed up her stuff and joined the students making their way across the Courtyard to the dining hall.
However, unbeknownst to the Hufflepuff, a loose piece of paper had flown out of the side of her bag, billowing in the gentle breeze and landing at the base of the fountain, somehow avoiding the eyes of the many students walking past it. There it sat, neglected and forgotten by the students that threatened to trample over it as they charged across the grounds - but by that point, Emily had vanished from the Courtyard entirely to realise.

This September, the second year of Eugenia’s schooling at Hogwarts had just begun. It seemed exciting, but she was learning new and fairly interesting things each day. Things that you usually don’t get to know. Things that might seem stupid, or ideas with which you agree. Maybe today happened to be a very special day, although Eugenia never realized it.
After a long time of popping in and out of classes, Eugenia was exhausted. Trying to fit quidditch practice in her already very burdened schedule was tricky. She was a perfectionist to the core, always trying to make sure she succeeded in her spells, potions and essays, devoting extra time rechecking her work. She wrote fast, but still used up some time for that matter, something really annoying. Nevermind.
Today, she probably went a bit wild. Despite having 1 entire week to finish them, she wrote both of her exceptionally long History of Magic essays, as well as one for Potions. She really wanted to get over with the Homework fast, she needed to finish her little crochet animals and she wouldn’t have time, unless she was done. You first have to finish your responsibilities before having any fun. Right? At least, that was what her mother always taught Eugenia. A wise woman, her mother was. She really had a reason for telling her. So, the Greek girl stuck with her rules, routines and practices.
Eugenia really wanted to finish her Charms essay, as well as some research she had to do for Astronomy. Tomorrow would be Quidditch Practice, she’d loose a huge chunk of her evening riding her Cleansweep 5. So, it was time to do all the work she could. If, at least, she wanted to relax a bit later. And fast.
Obsessive about homework as she was, she was really burdening her head. When she couldn’t think straight anymore, Eugenia decided that 4 straight hours of studying were a bit bad for both her physical and mental health. Dinner would start in an hour or so. Maybe she could take a quick walk to the courtyard or run a bit in the Hogwarts grounds. After much time, she chose to go to the courtyard, letting her quill down and putting on the jacket her grandmother had knitted. She then claimed out of the vinegar barrel, the entrance to the Hufflepuff common room, and began to walk.
The Greek girl reached the Courtyard soon enough. A cold breeze hit her and a piece of paper flew towards her feet. Bending down, she picked up the parchment and began to read the neat handwriting. It was about half-breeds, half-humans. Eugenia studied the paper. A supporter of half-humans herself, she looked at the arguments the mysterious person had written down. She agreed with their opinions. The arguments, although in the short form of bullet points, were valid, important ones. Whoever dropped it must have been a huge advocate.
Eugenia put the paper in the pocket of her pants, not before folding it very carefully. She would keep this paper, hopefully return it to its rightful owner. She already thought on some improvements, thinking of what notes she could add. Quickly, the Hufflepuff walked back to the common room, pondering who could have written it. The people mentioned. Simon. Didn’t they have a prefect in Hufflepuff, Simon Kincaid? Could it be him? Eugenia vaguely remembered that he might be a dhampir. And Scout? She had heard about a student in her grade. She was a Gryffindor. What was her name? Scout Fu-Hai? She was pale. So, another dhampir? She was now near the entrance to her Common Room.
She looked up, hitting the vinegar barrel with the correct beat. New thoughts for her to ponder on.
Eugenia exits this thread.
