Two... Four... Two... Four...
Counting in twos always worked best when Casey was juggling, much more preferable than the whole "one, two, three, four," nonsense. A bit of a mouthful. Fewer beats to chant out meant more focus for his hands to catch the incoming balls. His arms instinctively shifted his trio of balls from his Figure of Eight back to his Cascade. Beats were hardly needed for that after all this time. Standard juggling was practically second nature to him. He stood at the edge of the room where he juggled almost mindlessly to himself. A year ago he never saw himself doing something like this but with how he has grown accustomed to it thanks to his mother's relentless positivity over it, he had to give it to her - he bloody loved it. Bravo to Celeste Stone for cracking some passion back into her youngest hard-ass son.
Not to mention it was a terrific stress reliever. Finding out that "she" was at camp and the kerfuffle with her and her friend leading to him getting hit with a knockback jinx... God, was he looking for a release. All his frustration channelled into his Cascade, gripping and catching his balls with more force than usual.
Casey learnt how to get faster with the same level of control whenever he was really pissed off. Larger throws meant slower energy. Smaller throws however? If he had the same coloured balls across the board, he could easily make it an optical illusion if he wanted to.
His foot tapped as he built back up his beats, his Cascade going into Columns... And then Factory... Which then evolved into Box. His left hand still did that weird side catch whenever he did that trick. He always managed to find himself leaning to his left just to compensate the slightly lop-sided toss up compared to his perfect 90-degree throw with his right.
After months of practicing he was smug as hell for finally getting it right, even if it did look a little bit off with his weird left-hand claw motion. If only he could say the same for other Shuffles and Box alternatives. Though that would be practice for another time. Boston Mess immediately came to mind.
One trick he would always show off whenever he had the chance was Mill's Mess. He remembered a conversation he had with his mother when he first cracked the trick. Apparently it took a muggle street performer six months to perfect the trick when she went to buy equipment for him one day. Casey on the other hand? Six days. While there were a lot more impressive tricks he wanted to get good at, Mill's Mess was his crown achievement on the shelf so far.
His talent didn't go unnoticed back home. His neighbours heckled him to start performing on the street whenever they saw him practice. Not just for juggling either. Whether they caught him unicycling, playing with his diabolo or even flower sticks outside, it was the same thing. "Casey, you're a true performer! Go out and show the world!" Nah. Not his thing. Maybe when he wasn't shoulder-deep in depression and stress he would maybe think about it. Maybe.
