Emily wandered about the quidditch stadium, still taking everything in around her. It was still quite hard for her to believe that she had been thrown back into the world of magic so quickly but that wasn't to say she was complaining about any of it. Not at all. To think that fifteen days of being at home came and went before she found herself back with her fellow classmates and other students alike. As she stepped across the snowy glazed grounds of the stadium, she drunk in the magnificence of the tents spread out across the field and the attractions surrounding them. It felt like one big carnival, with confectionary and colours, excitement and energy sweeping across the entire stadium. This was certainly something back home could never give her. Not after all that she had seen after nearly a whole year of spells, potions, creatures, brooms and things that no one would believe her if she told them. The joys of being muggle-born.
The overwhelming sight of it all had Emily entranced. However as her mind drifted alongside the energy that encapsulated her, she woke up after knocking into someone. Audible grunts were exchanged and suddenly everything went quiet for that split second as Emily's eyes bore through the eyes of another.
"Oh..."
"...Crap."
Emily and Casey went from exchanging startled stares to antagonistic eye contact. Of everybody Emily didn't expect to see here, it would be him. Likewise, the last person Casey didn't want to put up with was her. It took them both a minute to fully grasp that they were both standing in front of the people they weren't eager to see.
Casey's mood became bored and disinterested pretty quickly whilst Emily's surprise slowly but undoubtedly gave way to some pent up anger. "You again...!" Her tone was slightly less softer than what others had grown used to. Her attitude roused an arched eyebrow from Casey.
"Yeah, it's me again. Seems you've changed a little since I last saw you, Little Miss No-Maj. For one you're rather uptight today, and for another you're not on your ass in a puddle where I left you," he spoke snidely. Emily huffed in disdain, not at all impressed at being reminded at how he had shoved her back when they first met.
"Seems you haven't. Still the same antisocial twit, I see," she fired back, though still lacking that bite compared to Casey's fire. They shared another standoff before Casey began walking away. Emily followed promptly behind him.
"Hey! I'm not finished-"
"Well I am, so toodles..."
This fricking guy...!
"You know, for someone who believes that rudeness is inherent in muggles and muggle-born wizards alike, you seem pretty ignorant yourself!"
"I just have low tolerance for people. Especially those that want to get up in my private business."
"You're still hung up on that? All I asked was who that guy in your photo was. Then all of a sudden you come at me like I just attacked you...!"
Casey sneered and walked faster, though that only prompted Emily to speed up as well and keep pace with him. "Why do you care so damn much, huh?
"I just wanted to get to know you, to be friends with you, that's all...!"
Casey stopped, completely taken off guard before he exhaled incredulously. "Friends? What, does Hogwarts feed off the power of friendship or something?"
He turned around and faced her square in the eyes. I don't want friends. I just want..." He trailed off. He was coming back into his head again. Shaking his head to get the intrusive thought out of his head, he took off again. However, ever observant as she was, Emily finally found a clue. A teeny tiny crack, but at least there was something. Something to tell her what has him so wound up like this.
"You know I don't mean any harm..."
Casey sighed. "I don't care. Just leave me alone. You don't know me... I'd like to keep it that way."
"But you're clearly keeping something to yourself and it's hurting you... I just want to help."
Casey ran a hand through his hair. "Why?"
Emily shrugged slightly. "I just... I just want to. It's who I am, I guess."
Casey paused, though Emily couldn't tell if he was still listening. Another flicker of silence passed between them before Casey strengthened his walls. "Naïve git... You're wasting your time."
Emily, though huffing at the final insult, could just about hear the tinge of defeat in his tone. She sighed and watched him walk away, this time not choosing to follow him. She had a thought. And knowing her she'll be thinking on it for a while.
