Growing up, Elisa had always been intrigued by 3 things in her life, one of them being her curiosity to excel the art of playing a violin which she has successfully learned at the ripe age of 8 but never got a chance to play it ever again after her mother had once thrown it away out of anger in the past, but here she was, with a brand new violin in her hand, she had managed to get one with her savings through the help of her uncle but deep inside the confident facade was her soul trembling, imagining of countless situations of how this new violin would face the same fate as her old violin.

Elisa sighed as her mind filled with a dilemma, she couldn't risk the chance of her brand new violin being taken away from her but nor would she ever be able to keep her hands away from the violin, after minutes of thinking it out, the young girl finally decided to take the risk and she slowly positioned the violin on her around her neck, as the young girl slowly started playing the violin, she could feel the harmonious melody hit her ears, filling the whole room with it's delightful rhythm, The more she played, the lesser the bitter memories of her childhood came to her mind, it was as if she was back to being an 8 year old who wished to do nothing more than play the violin all day long,

The young girl continued to play one of her favorite pieces, one which was created by a muggle but was something that had made her cry every single time she had ever played it, it gave her the taste of nostalgia, from her childhood, Elisa had a soft spot for sad music and novels to the facts that the piece called 'Aase's death' by Edvard Grieg had officially won her heart, It was a music which might not impress everyone, but to those who understand the rich art of music, it is a masterpiece.

As she continued to serenely play the violin, her deep concentration into the hypnotising tune prevented her from noticing the tears sliding gently through her cheeks, her eyes swiftly closed while imagining in her mind, a scene of her presenting this to a crowd of people, beautifully flexing her skills, it was mesmerizing as she continued to play.

@Elisa Shakestra

A violin. Six years old, lovingly cared for and used often. She needed practice. Needed to relieve the stress and anxiety building inside of her surrounding the approaching event of the Spring Ball and those she knew attending.

No, no, not now. Now play.

She walked into the rehearsal room. Violin, then piano, yes. A good plan. Solid. Nice.

But she heard the song of another violin. It took her a few moments to recognize the tune, but recognize it she did. Her tutor was planning on having her play cello to it when she got home. Aase's Death.

Astra's bow and violin hung unready as she looked upon Elisa Shakestra, playing first seat and... crying, oh Merlin, she was crying.

It felt wrong to be here.

Suddenly, a previously forgotten memory. Elisa rolling her sharp blue eyes and Astra sending a death glare to her parents as each girl prepared herself to play some stuffy recital piece meant for young, but talented, students of music at a Ministry event. Well, that was putting it loosely. An event for Ministry employees of high regard such as Hyperion Norrick, Aces Lerian, the Shakestras, and their families.

Elisa was playing first. The melody, while pretty, sounded hollow without its second. Without its fills and swells.

It felt wrong, when Elisa was so obviously in the zone, to break it. But... two bows were better than one. And perhaps, as selfish as it was, the complete melody would help both Shakestra and Norrick.

The notes were fluid, soft, quiet, simply a backdrop to the greater melody. Never once unsure, her talent was far past that. And Peer Gynt was one of Astra's favorite plays if only for the music.

Tragic and beautiful and perfect and whole in the way only music could be. It was calm, it was uproar, it was peace, it was mourning, it was bliss, it was despair. And suddenly being human didn't seem so simple. And suddenly being human just seemed like music. But that is a lesson that is easy to forget, to ignore, even as the string sing under your fingers and the very air bends to your bow.

Almost dead yesterday, maybe dead tomorrow, but alive, gloriously alive today
