Aurélie had been at Beauxbatons for a grand total of ten days, and she still couldn't get over the beauty of the school. Marseilles, her home city, was amazing in its own right, but this? The castle of a school building was practically built into the side of the mountain, and the magnificent gardens held tropical plants that spilled onto the walkways. Each day, Aurélie still felt as if she was living a dream, even though she had been preparing her entire life to come to this truly magical school.

This is much better than staying at home, she thought. The private tutors were nothing compared to this style of education. Aurélie grinned to herself as she took an empty seat in the dining hall.

Usually, she was an extremely social girl and would have a circle of chattering friends by the time she stepped into the castle, but being in a place where everyone was nervous of their new surroundings was hard, even for someone as outgoing as her. Even now, ten days into the school year, Aurélie still sat by herself in the large room as she ate.

It wasn't the most terrible experience, as she was good with silence, but she really would have rather had more people by her side. Having friends was like having armour. They kept away bullies and people who wanted to mess with you. They kept you content and focused. Without friends, Aurélie felt lonely and vulnerable.

The girl shifted in her seat, sitting up straighter but with a relaxed posture. Hopefully, someone would come sit with her today, at least. Not because they pitied her, but because they too needed friends to surround themselves with.
