8. Secret Tunnel Writing

No one knew about the secret tunnel that lay behind Mellani's bookshelves. No one but her father, who had helped her make it, and promised not to tell anyone about it. It was Mellani's place. The place where she could go when she wanted to be alone, when she wanted to cry till the tears could not come anymore, when too many people had been bothering her or when she had done something that she failed to understand.

This was the place where she had gone after her first instance of magic. This was where she was after Olive... Olive, who was her best friend, who she wished was here right now more than anyone else. Never did Mellani even think that something so terrible could happen while she was away at Hogwarts. It was all Mellani's fault... Why did she have to be born as someone who could do magic? Couldn't she have just been a normal person with a normal life? Was that too much to ask?

Tears flowed down Mellani's cheeks as all the memories of Olive and her came rushing in. The most prominent ones were the ones where they walked home from school. The ones where Mellani kept making sure that Olive did not bump against cars. The ones where Mellani saved her friend's life without even realizing it. Mellani let these thought fill her head until her eyes closed and her head dropped down. Sleep had come.
