OOC: Raizel and I have an inside joke about Raizel not knowing what Bex's name is! With the exception of Zach below, please try to avoid saying Bex's name in front of Raizel. Thank you!
𝓞bjectively, Bex understood that ignoring your problems wouldn't make them go away. Truly, she did. Ignoring reality wouldn't make you any less magical or your parents any less divorced. And, as she had learned these past few months, you definitely couldn't ignore the stentorian bell toll that was your impending failure in multiple classes, Transfiguration at the top of that list in red glitter gel pen.
But, as the end of November rapidly approached, she'd begun to feel the walls start closing in on her, and like a trapped, doomed animal she had begun to desperately claw at the paint until her hands were raw and bleeding. So far the only way she'd found to drown out the suffocating anxiety was to throw herself into every activity that would have her.
She was paying the price for that now, as their unofficial broom race yesterday had cost her valuable homework and studying time that she really couldn't afford to lose. She wasn't even really sure why she was even trying at this point. She was a former straight A student back in muggle primary school, and likely would have continued to be if the rules hadn't changed so dramatically. If she hadn't been so unable to perform even the most basic of spells when it actually mattered, when she was actually being graded on it.
(There was a small part of her though, that even to herself she'd never admit existed, that wanted to fail. That wanted to get kicked out of Hogwarts. There was no way her parents would just let her stop going to school at 11, so maybe they'd let her go back to muggle school. Maybe this could all finally be over-)
Anyway. She had a lot of pointless studying to catch up on, so off to the library it was. Except, as she was making her way there, she heard something that she hadn't heard too much of these past few months: music. Without the easy access to cell phones and Spotify that she'd been used to in the muggle world, there was just a lot less music available in the magical world. Really you either had to learn to play it yourself or like, go listen to the frog choir. So she was admittedly curious, and went the opposite way she was supposed to be going, following the sound.
Poking her head through the doors, she realized that this was probably the Hogwarts ballroom. Unless there was a classroom she didn't know about that looked like this. Probably the ballroom, though, because there was Alyssea, dancing alone in the center of the room, a radio playing classical music set on the floor beside her. I thought muggle stuff didn't work here?
She wouldn't interrupt Alyssea to ask, especially with how nice and accommodating Alyssea had been to her over these past few weeks, but she did really want to know had that radio worked. Making up her mind, she quietly made her way into the ballroom and sat criss-cross-applesauce off to the side, waiting for Alyssea's song to finish. Was she ignoring her responsibilities again? Maybe. But that was a problem for future Bex to deal with.

❂《 ⌜ Date: November 26, 2023 ▎ Time: TBA ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔Was it here? Or was it there? The common rooms couldn't be found but of course the realization came too late to Raizel. She's not on the 5th floor. That made her facepalm, cursing in her mind at how much her sense of direction was beyond awful that it left her scratching her head, wondering on how she could even get to her classes. Well, all she had to do was follow her classmates around.
Once she's here on the 4th floor, she knew she would be on her way to the duelling club but not today. All she wanted was just to get back to the common rooms after her mindless wandering. Things weren't that great for this Gryffindor lately. Not only did she lost her official duel but she had also lost the unofficial one, especially that one with that Ravenclaw girl. While on the outside she was smiling, deep inside she was already breaking.
A frown formed on her face as she shoves her hands into her black hoody's pockets, too tired to show the mask that she always wear, that is, until she needs it again. She made her way to find the set of stairs that should lead her to the next floor but stopped just in front of the ballroom. She has no reason to enter the said room unless necessary. She can't dance. The only dancing she ever did is only when she's under the effects of Tarantallegra, something that she had been hit countless times now. What compelled her to enter the room though? There was like an invisible force pulling her in.
Raizel stepped inside and the sight that met her was the graceful dancing of a certain Hufflepuff. Those heels of her weren't just for luck in dodging. It was perhaps mesmerizing that it left her staring for a couple of seconds before snapping out of it. People with talent fascinates her and somehow wishes that she too was just as talented as them. Maybe not in dancing but to things that she loves like duelling. With all the failures that she had faced, those thoughts began to circle her mind but of course, she couldn't let go of duelling no matter how much people would tell her to do so.
While finding a spot to simply watch as she somehow thinks it was soothing enough to heal the aches, she saw another person. "Oh, you, the girl who beat me up." She said nonchalantly to the very same Ravenclaw girl who just beat her to pulp during that unofficial duel.

Zach had just finished his homework. He stretched himself, to release the tense on his stiff muscles. Woah... Finally, these nightmares are finished. The boy got up from the Library's desk and put all his things into his satchel then decided to leave.
His eyes were already poisoned by the black text on the light brown parchments and his sense of smell started to die due to the smell of ink. He needed entertainment to get rid of all that. And the nearest entertainment he could get at the moment was a duel. Really. It's not like he had any choice. The boy walked towards the Duelling Club, hoping that he could find some fun things to watch before he came back to his room.
Before he could even reach the Duelling Club, he heard music from the Ballroom. Music? He stopped. The boy wondered who played it. Perhaps a club used the room and played the music as their activity. He was curious and withdrew his intention to go to the Ballroom, and decided to see what was happening in the ballroom hall. He opened the door to peek inside and found a strange sight. A girl who danced alone and other girls who were off to the side.
He fixed his glasses to see them clearly. It was Alyssea who danced alone. So she can really dance? No wonder her dance in Tarantallegra was good. Then he looked to the side of the room. It was Raizel the lioness and a small girl that familiar to him. She's Bex, right? He recognized her as a member of the gardening club.
He looked again at Alyssea. I wonder what dances she could do. Maybe I'll ask later. He reached the other two girls on the side of the room and greeted them. "Raizel! and... Bex! Hi!" He waved to them, shouting at the lowest volume so he wouldn't disturb Alyssea's dance.Mentioning @Alyssea Brown

Siobhan had been walking with her nose stuffed in the pages of her newly acquired library book detailing some of the requirements for growing magical plants in a non-magical greenhouse, when she heard the sounds of a radio that pulled her attention away from the importance of regulating the temperature for growing bitterroot.
Siobhan looked at the large oak doors she had just planned on walking past with no regard for their existence. It sounded as though a jaunty waltz song was coming from within and that meant that there may be a radio that existed that worked in this castle. Siobhan had been quite disappointed when she found out that none of her muggle devices would work within the grand halls of the Scottish castle; she always found herself listening to classical music while she read or to traditional Irish dance music while she cleaned. It was always easy to keep a rhythm whenever she was able to hear the thumping beats of a drum.
Siobhan's feet closed in on the door and she held a shaky hand out to the handle. The other possibility of the existence of a radio meant that there may be people in the room and she would hate to interrupt. But the call of the music was too powerful and Siobhan found herself slinking inside the room hoping to hide behind something in order to look around without interrupting or being noticed by strangers. She took care to close the door very slowly to minimize the sound of the door shutting.
There were only four individuals in the room. One girl was dancing, so Siobhan presumed that she was the owner of the radio. The other three seemed to be standing around but they all either knew each other or were at least acquainted. This was exactly what Siobhan worried about when she made to open the door. Interrupting a private gathering in the search of something that most definitely belonged to someone else...
As she made to leave, it wasn't her place to stay and besides she had a book to continue reading, she couldn't help but watch the dancer a little longer. The way she moved reminded Siobhan of her older sister. Graceful, elegant and poised. It was very beautiful to see...

─── ⋅ ∙ ∘ ☽ ༓ ☾ ∘ ⋅ ⋅ ────── ⋅ ∙ ∘ ☽ ༓ ☾ ∘ ⋅ ⋅ ───Helena was minding her business as she was wondering about the vast castle. The young first year badger seemed lost in her own little world. That was not hard these days. She always seemed dazed and out of it. Even around her friends the young girl tried to manage her best to be as happy as she could.
As Helena walked mindlessly down the corridor the young girl's ears picked up the sound of what sounded like music drifting through the corridor. As curiosity grew inside of Helena’s mind she inched towards the sound.
In the doorway looking into the room looked like another first year that Helena never noticed running about before. Though Helena never paid attention to others that were not in her small circle of friends.
Inching closer Helena stood beside the girl peeking her head through the doorway. Examining those that were in the room.
Helena’s gentle ocean blue eyes seemed to trace the graceful form of Alyssea as she danced. The golden haired girl stood in awe. Alyssea was graceful as she moved around the vast looking room as the sound of the music seemed to dance along with the young girl. Helena felt as if her mind seemed to get rid of her worries or at least at this moment.
Helena blinked for a second turning to look at the young girl that was also in the doorway examining her quietly with her icy blue gaze. The young girl was definitely taller than Helena, but many students were taller than Helena anyways so it was not very odd at all to the young girl. She also noted how the young girl looked as if she was about to leave.
Helena debated for a second, before quietly turning towards the young girl.
“Would you like to go in? Nobody bites.”
Helena spoke softly in her poise elegant feathery voice. The young girl held her hand out for the stranger to hold if she wished. Afterall Helena knew two of the four people in the room.
Helena glanced behind her examining the others that seemed to be in the room watching the older Hufflepuff girl dance gracefully. Helena recognized the two that were near Bex she remembered them from the Ball oh yes that dreadful ball full of nothing but disaster and those dreaded sea monkeys.
Helena blinked once again before turning towards the other girl that was beside her smiling softly as she continued to hold her hand out for the other girl. That was if she agreed to join or not. It did not bother Helena much if the other girl denied she would understand after all being around strangers was always a tad bit terrifying for some.

Siobhan hadn't realized she had been watching the girl dance for so long. She quickly blinked back from her zone out and was confused about her immediate surroundings but remembered where she was quite quickly.
You wandered into a dance room? -ballroom! It's a ballroom- in search of a radio. Are you going to go an ask whose it is or are you going to continue standing here like an idiot in the corner.Siobhan's less helpful part of her brain asked her. Yeah it was pretty obvious now. The music playing from the radio only continued to fill the quiet atmosphere with gentle music for its dancer to sway to. Siobhan wished that if she wasn't so gangly that maybe her body would dance like that too. But dancing was just out of the question. She preferred to stay stationary, and could so for hours
"Definitely not stand here..." Siobhan mumbled to herself before turning around to come face to face with another girl. She gave a spooked "eep!" noise and backed up slightly as she didn't see the girl behind her.
"Would you like to go in? Nobody bites." the girl stated with simplicity.
Siobhan looked at the girl who had just spoken to her as her own mind remembered how to make polite conversation. What had she said? Something about nobody biting? Well she sure hoped not!
Siobhan had gotten plenty of bites from those owls in the Owlery and from her pets back at home she didn't need to add human bites to her collection of bite marks. The girl bore the colors of Hufflepuff, and she had a very kind smile on her face. Slowly Siobhan reached her hand towards the girl with a gentle nod.
Her hand was soft, and Siobhan's easily wrapped around it due to her being a good few inches taller than the Hufflepuff girl. Strange, a random thought popped in her head. I seem to be finding myself in the company of many a Hufflepuff.
She really hoped these people didn't bite... That would just be a strange letter home explaining her time in the hospital wing.

Others Speaking: #theirhexThe ballroom. A place of magnificence, excellence, extravagance. A palce Astra had already been in, but now deemed it necessary to test the acoustics in. So she toted her violin along, no music, just planning to play a little tune, perhaps work on improvising. Indeed, her instructor had said she should be able to improvise by now, being such the musical "virtuoso" she apparently was. Astra herself highly doubted she was all that, but it was worth a go.
When she reached the ballroom, Astra found two students outside the room. She recognized the Puff, the girl seemed to be showing up in Astra's daily life a ridiculous amount of times. They seemed to be watching someone, and- was that Tchaikovsky? That was Tchaikovsky. If Astra knew any one composer's music, it was Tchaikovsky.
She stepped up beside the two girls, peering inside the ballroom as well. Inside, she saw Zach Zaphiere, Rai (that was her name, right?), and a Ravenclaw girl- she was the one in the stands!, and then, spinning gracefully in the center of the ballroom, the Hufflepuff girl that moderated Rai's race.
Merlin, she's good.
Astra ducked inside the ballroom and quickly flipped open her case. She was already tuned, already prepared. She did a quick once over of everything, mentally counted off, and joined in the famous Waltz of the Flowers run, that graceful crescendo everyone and their mother knew, even if they didn't know its name. As the stringed instruments faded, she played some background chords, following the lead of the bass, then swelling back into that well known chorus.
These acoustics are amazing.

─────Landon knew it was a little strange for him to be so forward to ask Alyssea to dance, but he liked dancing and he wasn't terrible at it. He had wanted to dance during the last school event, but with the whole falling into the lake and being snatched by grindylows, he just wasn't able to even ask. He had been too exhausted as it was. Landon didn't feel shy when it came to dancing, just shy about asking someone to dance. But he knew Alyssea well and it wasn't nearly as scary to ask her as it would be someone else.
Landon smiled as Alyssea bowed and offered her arms to him. "I'm not an expert, so I don't mind if you aren't perfect," he said kindly. He flushed a little as he looked around and noticed people watching them. He hadn't really thought about that part before he offered to dance with Alyssea, but he was going to do it anyway. He wanted to dance with her.
Landon hadn't really danced with a girl who wasn't much smaller than him, since his usual dance partner was his little sister, but he was sure he could handle this. He took a deep breath and steadied his nerves before starting to lead Alyssea through a dance. He kept it simple, not wanting to do something and make himself look bad. He didn't want to make a mistake while so many people were walking.
Landon smiled at Alyssea. "So, you dance?" he said, a little bit surprised. "I didn't realize you were a dancer," he added. He led her through a turn gently, trying not to throw her off balance or anything. "I learned some dance skills to make my little sister happy," he admitted. "I don't know if I'm great at it, but I do enjoy doing it. Her smile made it worth while," he added. He knew he was sounding a little sappy, but he really loved his youngest sister.
