Others: BoldAstra bit back a smile as she entered the Charms classroom and waved to Professor Fresnel. She was excited to practice the spells she had recently learned, to master them just as her parents and aunts and uncles had. Perhaps Hyperion's love of history had rubbed off on her, but it felt like an honor to fulfill these legacies, especially Aunt Aces'.
She took out her wand, clean and shining the way it was angled to the light. Holly wood and Phoenix core, a rare combination. Her mind flashed over to the day in Diagon Alley, what Mr. Ollivander had said about this wand. A rare and powerful combination. Astra smiled at the thought. This wand had served her well so far, and she almost felt like it was an extension of her. When she forgot it, there was a coldness in her pocket and an tugging on her mind.
She had a container of Every Flavor Beans. Astra sat it on the desk and took out a handful of beans. She recognized two that might be lemons and set them aside, hoping she would be pleasantly surprised and actually get lemon when she tried them later.
But for now, she cast the Dancing Feet Spell on the beans. "Tarantallegra," she said. The beans leapt to life, some doing a jig, others doing a salsa type dance, and one almost looking like it was trying to tap dance.
Glancing beside her with a bemused smile, she noticed that the dark haired Hufflepuff boy beside her seemed to be struggling with his casting practice. "Do you want some help?" she asked, tilting her head to the side. The beans still danced, but she quickly broke concentration from that and they fell still, their tapping fading into silence. "I'm sorry, that was rather brash of me. You just looked like you could use some assistance with your casting."

Roa had walked into Charms class feeling. . . Resigned. The past two times he’d been, he’d sucked. There were so many factors; he didn’t move his wand right, he didn’t concentrate enough, he said the word wrong. He just sucked at the charms. He didn’t understand why, it was a simple enough concept.
He stares at the wand in his hand, balancing it on his thumb absently. He watches it sway side to side slightly as it settles into the balanced position. He listens aptly to the instructions before getting to work. He grips his wand lightly, pointing it at the small little skeleton keychain he was given and tries the charm. Moving his wand slowly, he speaks softly, “Tarantellagra.”
He waits, and when nothing happens, he repeats the word in his head and realized he said it wrong. He sighs and tries again, moving his wand slowly, “Tarantallegra.” Again, nothing happens and he frowns. He must have moved his wand incorrectly. He sighs and sets his wand down.
He looks over to his notes and traces the carefully drawn lines on the paper. He chews on his lip, lifting his wand and trying the spell again, “Tarantallegra.” He moves his wand just right. Yet, the keychain did nothing. He sighs and flops down into the chair, closing his eyes. He looks over at the Slytherin girl beside him, watching as she does the spell with ease.
He watches the beans dance on her desk and sighs, looking at his keychain. He felt incompetent sitting next to her and he shifts away slightly. Picks his wand up again and tries the charm again. This time, the keychain wiggled, but nothing else happened. He’s so caught up in his own attempts, he almost misses it when the girl speaks to him.
“Do you want some help?” He looks up at the Slytherin girl, quiet for long moments. He pulls slightly on the hem of his sleeve, shifting in his seat.
“Oh. . . Um, that would be great actually. . . For some reason, I just can’t get it right, I either mess up the word, motion or don’t concentrate enough. . .”WC: 364

Others: BoldShe nodded, shifting to face the boy. Astra had noticed that the Hufflepuff was moving his wand basically perfectly, but something seemed to be a little off about his pronunciation. "Of course, it's difficult to get all three aspects at the same time," she said. Honestly, though she knew it was due to sheer dedication, she was surprised she'd been able to pick up spell casting so fast. "The key is to go at it in stages. So first, concentrate."
She took a yellow bean with little indentions that marked it cheese flavored in her hand. She showed it to the boy, setting it on the desk. "I've got my entire focus on this bean. I can't see what you're doing, what anyone's doing. You could probably punch me in the face right now and I wouldn't see anything coming. You're going to get better as you do it more, and less concentration will be needed, but for now you want to block everything else out."
Astra held up her wand. "Next, say the incantation in a clear voice. So, for this one, ta-RON-ta-LEG-ra." She made sure that she emphasized the right spots. "Then you pair it with the wand motion. Go slowly at first, like this." She cast slowly, drawing out the emphasized syllables as she moved her wand. "Ok, so focus, then incant and move the wand." She demonstrated, causing the bean to nearly dance off the desk.
Astra lunged for the tiny thing, her concentration breaking. Her fingers wrapped around the candy, and she looked back apologetically. "Sorry." She looked at his skeleton. "Do you want to try it on a bean first? Since it's smaller."
