Emma was wore out and possibly even over peopled. She had practically begged her parents to let her stay in Belfast with her grandparents when they mentioned squeezing the annual family camping trip between camp and Emma's return to Hogwarts. She had just wanted to have some lazy days hanging out with her grandpa, reading and discussing the books. But her parents insisted that she was gone for much of the year and they rarely were able to do anything but holidays together. So she had reluctantly packed a bag for a two week vacation in Carnfunnock Country Park. They had arrived two days ago, after a slightly cramped 40 min car ride made worse by the never ending questions her twin siblings threw at her about the wizarding world. And once more, she had been bombarded by their requests to talk to the Headmaster to try and figure out if they were wizards and would be able to attend the school. She bit her tongue, knowing that if they had been, they would have likely received their letters earlier in the summer. Then there was the endless discussion about incidents where they may have displayed magic. It was very frustrating, mainly because they either were or weren't and she had no control over the situation. Emma liked control, it made things go smoothly and kept her from feeling overwhelmed. But that was not to be.

The questions and arguments had continued, until she just couldn't take it anymore. She resolutely told her parents that she was going for a walk....alone. They had seemed somewhat sympathetic at least, hopefully realizing that she had been bombarded non-stop with questions, and demands and she was at her wit's end. They had agreed she could take a walk for an hour but would need to return, otherwise she wouldn't be allowed to go off alone again. Emma resisted fist pumping, and instead ran to where her bag was, a book of spells calling her name. She may not be able to practice properly, her wand being left at home because of the whole statute of secrecy issue but she could at least get the motions and pronunciations down before she was expected to know the spells in her third year. And it would serve as a nice break from well...the chatter.

Striding off in a random direction on one of the many walking paths, Emma took random turns, confident in the signs that popped up occasionally and would allow her to return to their camping site. Finding a wide clearing that the path ran right through, Emma went to the back side of the tree, the side facing away from the tree, so she could read her spell book and mumble under breath without having to worry about a muggle being able to hear or read the spell book. Opening the book to the last page, she began to mouth the words, reading about the Porcupine or Hedgehog to Pincushion spell, and grinning at the thought of being able to do something so well...different.
