The Magical Currency
It wasn't that Ophelia had never heard of magic or wizards or Hogwarts. No, she'd heard of it all. It was just that she'd never experienced any of it. When her mother told her stories of the great wizarding schools, she'd been awed. When she'd heard of the magical brooms and the sport called quidditch, she'd been amazed. But she'd never seen any of it in action.
That had all changed when Ophelia had gotten the letter from Hogwarts, however. She hadn't even known what it had meant, just that her mother, Cecelia, had been extremely proud of her, and that her father had tried to understand what was happening. Little Felix had also tried to understand what was happening, though he didn't get it as much. Suddenly, before she'd even gotten to read the entire letter herself, she and Cecelia had flown to London and she'd been taken to a special wizarding place called Diagon Alley through the Leaky Cauldron, both of which were unfamiliar names to her.
Ophelia now stood, eyes wide, in front of the famous Gringotts Wizarding Bank. It was a large, castle-like building and she was, again, amazed. As she walked inside with her mother, her jaw dropped as well. The bank was beautiful and, surprisingly, bustling.
They were led, by a little person who Cecelia had called a goblin, to the Northwell vault. After a scary, heart-stopping cart ride through the tunnels, they were led to a door, which the goblin and Ophelia's mother opened together. When the door opened, she was surprised to see large piles of gold, silver, and bronze coins. She'd thought there would be paper bills, just like the euros that were used in Ireland. But no, these were coins, and she could tell by their looks that they were much more valuable than any Muggle money.
"Wow." That was the only word that could explain it all.
