Scarlett walked into the study room with her school bag on one arm. As she walked past, she noticed Elizabeth sitting down at a table. It seemed as if Scarlett had ignored her but really she didn't like interacting with other people unless she was sure they were nice. She decided that she would study for two hours- then she would go to the great hall and eat dinner and then study a bit more and then eventually go to bed.

She looked around for an open table and chose a table that was in the corner of the study room, she noticed that she was near two bookcases and resisted the urge to take out a thick 600 paged book to read right there and then. No! You need to study- She quickly set her things down on the table and sat down.

She decided to study for Defense Against the Dark Arts first. She started studying but quickly got bored... usually she was focused on her schoolwork and academics- but something else was on her mind right now... Maybe it was the end of the school year nearing? She didn't really know for sure, a lot of things had happened since her first day of Hogwarts.

Estelle was having a really bad day. Her dad had just owled her to say that her grandfather was sick and he had been taken to the hospital. She hoped he would be alright. No. He would be alright. She just had to believe in him.

Estelle sat down at the table. Homework waits for no man and Estelle figured it was a good way to distract herself. She noticed a girl walking over to another girl's table and wished she could talk to them. Usually making friends came naturally to her, but today she felt there was an invisible barrier between her and other people.

Estelle got out her homework and tried to focus on it, but her head was spinning with anxiety and she put it down. There was no point in doing it if she was going to do it badly. Instead, she opened her copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It had been her favourite book since she was little and she always found it comforted her. She loved reading about all the mystical creatures she could one day meet.

She recalled visiting hippogriffs with her dad in Scotland. They had seemed so polite. She loved how they were treated with respect, instead of being feared and hated. Many magical creatures were hated and she hoped she could change that.

Estelle turned to the entry on kelpies. Her grandfather, although he was a muggle, firmly believed that the Lock Ness Monster existed. In fact, he was certain he'd seen it. He had described it to her many times and made the journey to attempt to see it again every few years. She wished she could tell him it was real, but as he was a muggle she never could. It had always been hard for her to keep the secret and she resolved that if he was alright, next holiday she'd go with him to try to spot the kelpie that lived in Loch Ness.

He would be alright. He had to be.

As Estelle sat, lost in her thoughts, a girl came up to her. She had blonde hair much like Estelle's and seemed to be brimming with enthusiasm and confidence.

She complimented Estelle's book, making Estelle smile. It was a very old edition after all and she loved it dearly.

She asked to be Estelle's friend, and although Estelle was having a bad day, she never passed up the opportunity to make a friend.

Before Estelle could reply, the girl had run to her bag, which was making a strange rumbling sound. Estelle wondered what could be inside.

She returned and Estelle could finally talk to her

"Hi, I'm Estelle Nyx. I'm having a bad day and could honestly use some cheering up so I'd love to be your friend. Also, what's in your bag? It was making a rumbling sound."

Estelle smiled at her nervously. She hoped the girl didn't recognise her surname and assume she was some blood supremacist like most of her family. Some people had, and she'd had to do lots of explaining to get people to trust her. You see, her father was a Nyx, but he had run away to marry a muggle, getting him disowned from the family. Estelle had grown up among muggles and had never thought of them as below her, they just had a different sort of magic.

Estelle loved the idea of a muggle phone that could be used in the Wizarding World. Honestly, it would revolutionise sending messages.

Elizabeth asked her about what she liked to do.

"I love reading, but I love studying magical creatures even more. I can't believe we have to wait until third year to study Care of Magical Creatures - it's really unfair."

Estelle listened as Elizabeth thought of ways to cheer her up. Honestly, Elizabeth just being there was really helpful and she had already started to perk up.

"A little adventure?"

Estelle grinned. She loved adventures and exploring the castle. She was trying to work out how many secret passages there were within Hogwarts. So far she had found a few, the most notable of which was one from the ground floor to just outside the Hospital Wing. That was very useful when she got hurt.

"A little mischief?"

Estelle grinned even harder. She had wanted to find a place to hide and plan her pranks and this day was turning out to be the perfect opportunity. She was very much up for mischief and had her signature Exploding Bonbons in her bag. She loved the chaos small explosion caused
