Across the waters through hills and forests to you
Dear Lysander,
I hope this letter finds you after a safe journey back to the Durmstrang Institute. No capsised rowboats this time, surely? Please give this poor bird some love for her troubles, her name is Aspen, and she is mine. Apologies if you had thought she was me, we do share some features. I cannot imagine having to fly such a distance as an owl myself. Let her rest before you send her back to me.
Have you managed to secure your place in the Durmstrang Hexwizard Team? I would ask to play for Hogwarts' if only our champion were another, quite a shame that is. Though it makes me wonder, if you don't mind me asking, why attend Durmstrang and not Hogwarts like your cousin, Phaedra? Although I have never visited Durmstrang, I wouldn't know. What is it like there?
It's been such a short time, but I miss you already, Lynn. I wished we had more time together before you had to leave. Now that you're an ocean away, perhaps I should admit that you're my first. I've never had another one like you: a boyfriend. I want to get to know you more, all about you, if that's alright. And I apologise if I'm not approaching with this quite right.
With love,
Aurelia Notrésvace

Across the waters through hills and forests to you
April 11
Dearest Aurelia,
I am in awe. An animagus, at fifteen! How much sharper are your senses as an owl? And what’s it like, flying? Broom-riding must pale in comparison, that manmade imitation of what bird animagi such as yourself have accomplished. It must feel incredibly freeing, and with your plans for an apparition license, you strike me as someone who detests being chained. That is a trait the both of us share.
I’m afraid the Durmstrang Champion has yet to make a decision, but I feel good about my chances. My father fancied Durmstrang's martial-based curriculum, and so I went. Although Phaedra is like a sister to me, perhaps our separate schooling was for the best. Hogwarts could not handle the two of us—in the same year, no less. Admittedly, your castle outshines ours, but Durmstrang's real beauty lies in its surrounding nature. We toil not on first-year row boat initiations, but excursions into the wild to train survival among the region's harsh conditions. I have a tale, if you are interested.
You have nothing to apologise for. I suppose then that I must set a good example, particularly so with the distance now between us. Anything you wish to know, I will provide twofold, and do know that you are quite the enigma yourself. Our families would be a good start, don't you think? Until we meet again.
Yours truly,
@Aurelia Notresvace

Dear Lysander,
I'm flattered, thank you. The owl is somewhat of a family legacy. It took a great deal of patience. The heightened senses; the sights and sounds were all so overwhelming initially. Learning how to fly was another massive challenge, especially in the highlands. The feeling of soaring in the skies is so incredibly liberating - nothing like riding a broom. I wouldn't trade this form for the world. However, you should know that there is a massive bear animagus enrolled in Hogwarts - a Hufflepuff girl at that.
The apparition course started a few weeks ago, it is much tougher than I'd expected. Splinching. Trips to the infirmary have been frequent - I wouldn't go into details. But I am putting my trust in the process. But certainly, mastering those spells Durmstrang's studies have to offer must not be without its mishaps yourself? I too would quite frankly fancy being able to advance onto spells Hogwarts limits from its curriculum. Tell me your stories, I would love to hear them.
Anything I wish to know? Very well. At the ball, you mentioned that ballroom dancing is not your specialty. Enlighten me. While you are my first, a dashing young man with charms like yours must have had considerable. Might I ask just how many? And if I am an enigma to you, then unravel me Lys, I'm all yours to comprehend, just ask.
Notrésvace is my blood and origin. An old departed French legacy unique in its Matriarchy but with a tragic tale. My great-aunt, Astrid, says that some men would rather the world burn than see women in authority. Estelle, my middle name, is also my birth mothers. I was but a babe when she sent me off, the only recollections I have of her are in paintings at the old French manor. My home is with the Bezuidenhouts, the name I've gone by for most of my childhood. Heinrich Bezuidenhout is my dearest younger brother, he too goes to a separate school, Ilvermorny.
Sincerely,
An Enigma
