Let it snow
It was a cold December, much colder than the last fee months. The snow was falling gracefully down onto the now snow-filled grass. The lake had even frozen over and if you brought ice skates, it could probably hold. Almost every student was inside the castle, having something hot to drink or sitting close to the fire, trying to get warm.
But Kayla was outside. Sure, it was cold, but it was snowing! It snowed a lot in Wales but she never really felt the need to go outside, but she felt like she needed to, for no real reason. She wore a beanie snug over her head and a thick scarf around her neck as she trudged on the snowy ground, her boots crunching the icey grass.
As she walked she bent down every few moments to pick up a bit of snow, balling it up in her hands and throwing it a few feet to see how far it could go.
Maybe I should start discuss. she thought distantly, smiling as she picked up another mound of snow and started shaping it into a sphere.
'Longest one yet, I bet!' she paused for a moment, weighing the snowball in her hand, before throwing it. To her surprise, she heard a distant thump as the snowball seemingly hit something. She squinted in the direction she threw it and her face paled as she realised the snowball hit someone. Kayla hit someone.
Kayla moved swiftly and ran to the person she seemingly hit. From a distance she noticed it was girl, with black hair. But that was as much as she knew.
"Hey? I'm so sorry- it was an accident-" she rolled her hands as she spoke quickly. She looked at the girl, waiting for an answer, she nervously dropped her hands. Only to lift them again to fiddle with her scarf.@Beatrice Dupont

Let it snow
Beatrice was walking through the snow, a crunching sound appearing with every step. She wasn't really paying attention to anything but thinking of her siblings instead. The snow reminded her of them. When her parents allowed it she would always go outside with them, building snow figures and having snow ball fights. They would lay in the snow, no matter how cold they were and have hot chocolate in the kitchen as soon as they came into the house again. This was one of the only things she wanted to do as soon as she got home in the holidays. She wasn't particularly keen on going home but she loved her siblings and she loved doing things like this with them.
Beatrice watched her breath in front of her as it vanished from cloudy almost smoke like air into nothing. She stopped in her tracks at one point, watching the snow fall. Beatrice put her head back, looking into the sky. Everything felt slow and peaceful in that moment. Until something hit her on the right side if her face. She stumbled to the side, almost crashing into a tree before finally being able to stop stumbling around like one of the drunken old men that walked around at some of those awful parties she also had to attend during Christmas break. She took a shocked breath, realizing that somehow snow had ended up on her cheek, in her long hair that was gladly tight to a bun and some snow even found it's way into her clothes.
»Bloody hell.« Beatrice was breathing fast, still kind of shocked. Her heart was beating equally fast. She started to wipe away the snow that was still halfway covering her face. She didn't even notice the girl running up to her. Not until she started apologizing.
"Hey? I'm so sorry- it was an accident-" Beatrice felt rage at first, that girl had hit her with a snowball? In the face?! But she knew there was no reason to be mad. It was an accident. At least that's what the girl said. Beatrice looked at her, noticing that she was actually quite tall. It was weird since Beatrice always thought of herself as pretty tall and this girl was at least as tall as her, or even taller. She had short brown hair with blue eyes and looked pretty nervous. She was fiddling with her scarf.
»It's- okay.« Beatrice managed to say, taking a deep breath to calm herself down. Her heart was still beating fast from getting hit from her thoughts and peace so suddenly. »Just pay a little more attention next time...?« she said, wondering who this girl even was. Beatrice had never seen her before. Or at least she couldn't recall meeting this person. She looked nice tho.Word Count: 467

05/12/22, 14:05For someone that just been hit in the back of the head with a snowball, Beatrice acted strangely polite about it. She even said it was a pleasure to meet Kayla. Huh. Honestly, though, Kayla was just greatful that it didn't end with an argument.
As Kayla went on with her usual chatter, Beatrice responded well to the easy change of subject. Beatrice announced her preference to the cold -which Kayla couldn't imagine liking, despite being a swimmer and taught to swim in cold water- and also said she had siblings. That perked Kaylas interest. Kayla had eight siblings. Two twins, a twin brother, an older brother, a big sister and a technically-cousin-but-still-brother. It's a mouthful.
"You have siblings?" Kayla inquired. This was obvious, Beatrice just said she did. "How many? I have siblings, too! They're all at home though- except my sister. She's a Gryffindor, fifth year. Are any of your siblings at Hogwarts?"
There she went. Typical Kayla. She almost missed Beas' question about being outside- almost.
"That's a good question," Kayla said thoughtfully. "I dunno really. I've never been a fan of the cold much, makes me sick sometimes. But snow is kinda cool. A lot of places don't snow. Did you know that two-thirds of the Earth have never seen snow before?" Kayla had never been the best at Geography in school, but that didn't mean she never paid any attention to the subject. But most of the information seeped out of her memory once she started Hogwarts. Come on, how are you going to concentrate on learning river structure when you're trying to master creating snow from your wand?
Beatrice continued to ask Kayla questions. They were the typical questions you ask any student you first meet at Hogwarts.
"I'm a Hufflepuff! What about you?" Kayla said, a little too enthusiastically. The young badger was very proud of her house and she obviously had no trouble showing it. "And yep, first year. First year too?" she added. Kayla had never seen Beatrice around before, but she was pretty certain Bea was a first year too.

@Kayla RealmaCold and wet. That's what Beatrice felt right now. Paining icy and wet snow was melting inside her clothes, slowly slouching down her throat and chest before hitting the Sweater she was wearing and leaving coldness. She closed her eyes for a second, trying to get rid of that weird coldness. The other girl apologized again. Beatrice nodded her head with a tight smile, taking a deep breath. Just as the other girl had done mere moments ago. Her eyes went over Kayla, which was what she had just introduced herself as. Kayla was sticking out her hand in an attempt to shake Beatrice's hand. Growing up in a good household, Beatrice knew not to deny a handshake. She took Kayla's hand her's shaking it gently with a sublet grip, just like she was taught. Then Kayla asked for Beatrice's name. Beatrice had almost forgotten to introduce herself. She put on a friendlier smile.
»I'm Beatrice.« Her voice still sounded a little tight but she fixed that with clearing her throat. »Pleasure to meet you Kayla.« she said even tho they clearly were off to a rough start. She pulled her coat tighter around her, watching the warm breaths between them leave their mouths in a cloud and turn into nothing. The silence was a little awkward and Beatrice thought about asking Kayla what house she was in but just as she was about to open her mouth and ask, Kayla asked what she was doing outside. She went on to talk about the fact that it's cold and that most people prefer to stay inside because of that. Unless they wanted to go ice skating which Kayla thought sounded fun and then she asked if Beatrice had ever been ice skating. She had not. Her Parents didn't particularly like the thought of their daughter dancing on the pond in their garden with blades on her feet.
»I like the cold.« Beatrice said with a smile. »And the snow. It reminds me of my siblings.« the snow fall increased a little as they talked, the thick flakes sticking to their clothes and hair. »What about you? Why are you outside?« she asked, shifting her weight from one foot to the other. »And no, I have never been ice skating. I must agree tho, it does look fun.« she smiled a little in attempt to perhaps make herself seem a little less rude, which was what she felt like right now. »What house are you in Kayla? And year? First right? I'm not sure I have seen you before.« A small laugh escaped after her words, those were a lot of questions and Beatrice felt quite awkward with this conversation. She let her eyes trace over the grounds and then back to Kayla, waiting for her answer.
