Nov 29th was a big day for Rita, cos on that day, she had a new quill pal! When Rita found out she and someone named David Howard were now quill pals, she was on cloud nine. She had quill pals before, Cara @Charlie Jacobsen and Dexter @Melvin Brazen, but these two wizards seemed to be disappeared since Rita`s second year at Hogwarts began. Rita did not know where they went to, maybe they were receiving private magical tuition or transferring to another magic school elsewhere in the world, and really missed these two quill pals, especially Cara, since she was one of her disappeared friends from the muggle summer camp (the other one being Athena @Ava Hatchect), but she understood those were their choices, and she was always longing for a new quill pal to send some letters with. Luckily, this mysterious person named David arrived in Rita`s world, and clearly saved Rita`s day! When Rita went back to her dorm that afternoon after a day`s busy classes, she quickly grabbed a paper and a quill, and began to write a letter to this person Rita was at present unfamiliar with named David. This is what she wrote:
Dear David (By the way, can I call you Dave?),
I hope you are well. Believe it or not? We are now quill pals! We can now send letters to each other! Alright, in this first letter, I am going to ask you a few basic questions. Hopefully, you won`t be offended by these questions. Which year and house are you in? Where do your family reside? Could you share some of your hobbies and interests?
As you know, my name is Rita, and I am a Second Year Hufflepuff. When I am not boarding in Hogwarts, I live with my parents and younger brother Kevin in the busy metropolis London. It is definitely a long away to come to Hogwarts here in Scotland from where my family reside. I really miss my family! Luckily, Christmas holiday is in less than a month, Dec 23rd, and I can come back home to spend Christmas with my family in London very soon! Speaking of my hobbies, music is a bit part of my life, so is meeting up and having small talks with new people and old friends, drama, outdoor sports and activities, nature, Quidditch, and all kinds of activities and events here at Hogwarts! After Rita finished her first latter to her new quill pal David, she put the letter into an envelope, quickly ran to Owlery, and carefully attached the envelope to a snowy owl, before going back to her dorm and began to cope with other things she needed to do that day. Hopefully, David would receive that letter very soon, and if he had time to see and reply to the letter, Rita would also receive the reply from David in a few days. As Rita began to do other things, she could not help wondering how her new quill pal would feel when David received that letter, and how would David reply to her. Hopefully, David would not be offended by her questions, because she deliberately avoided that question that would probably offend others, the blood status.

Quill Pals: Rita & Dave
It was Tuesday, the 29th of November, and I had just found out that I had a new Quill Pall, Rita Su. I found out during lunch when a tawny owl had dropped a letter in front of me as I ate. I decided that I would send my first owl to Rita later today after I had my homework after classes. It turned out however, that this Rita was much more excited about sending me an owl then I was about sending one to her, because I never did get started on my letter to her, and the next day a snowy owl delivered Rita’s letter to me during dinner letter was only two paragraphs long so it didn’t take me long to read it.
Once I had fully read Rita’s letter and finished eating my dinner, I went up to my dormitory where I had to climb up a rope ladder to be able to reach the small suitcase underneath my bed. From there, I got out my bottle of ink, my quill, and a few pieces of parchment before heading out to the library where there would be nothing but silence which would leave me in peace. I entered the library and sat in a corner of it where I began writing the first draft of my letter. Only after I had finished writing the first draft of my letter had I realized how late it was, and by the time I would finish rewriting my letter, it would be long past curfew so I packed up my things and left towards my dormitory. On the next day, after I had completed my homework, I went back to the library with my bottle of ink, my quill, my first draft, and a spare piece of parchment, sat at the same table I sat yesterday, and began writing my second draft. And on the next day, I wrote my third draft. But while it was almost good enough, it wasn’t perfect, so I spent the next day, December the 2nd, making my fourth and final draft.
It didn’t take me as long as my first draft since I was just copy and pasting my first draft onto the new piece of parchment while removing the mistakes I had made in my first draft, and once that was done, I headed back up to my dorm where I climbed up the rope ladder and went over to my smaller suitcase where I put away my quill and my bottle of ink. I then went over to one of my bigger suitcases and got out an envelope before putting my letter in it. Now all I had to do was deliver this letter so I went down the rope ladder, got a snack size bag of skittles from behind the counter of the sports bar, and went on my way to the owlery, eating my skittles along the way. Once at the owlery, I attached my letter to one the great horned owls, and sent it off. And now I only had to wait for Rita to reply in a day or two.

Yes, you can call be Dave, that’s what almost everyone calls me anyways with the exception of the professors who call me Mr. Howard. And you’re one of the Hufflepuff Beaters, right? Shame you were knocked out in the first round by a redirected bludger, but you guys won 370-10 anyways so that’s nice. I don’t know how your questions could be offensive, but here’s the answers to your questions. I’m a Second Year Hufflepuff just like you, my family lives in Brockham England, and my hobbies are dueling, practicing dueling spells in my free time, reading interesting fictional books, and talking to others. I have a younger brother named Matthew who is a Gryffindor, and we like to talk to each other on the weekends. And being a Gryffindor, he was quite disappointed with how the recent quidditch match turned out.
Honestly though, did the Gryffindor team actually think they were going to win by cheating? I mean, if they attended the Slytherin vs Ravenclaw match, then maybe they’d know that cheaters don’t win. I mean, if I remember correctly then Slytherin didn’t cheat at all during their match and Hufflepuff only cheated once through their match, but Ravenclaw and Gryffindor on the other hand cheated or at least tried to quite a lot. I mean, Gryffindor cheated much more then Ravenclaw, but I bet if the Slytherin seeker hadn’t caught that snitch so fast then they would’ve cheated much more.
Anyways, enough about quidditch and onto dueling. Fun fact by the way, I’m one of the Hufflepuff Duelists and this is my second year being on the team, and I don’t plan on quitting anytime soon so you can expect me to be on it in the upcoming years. I joined the team with my friend AngelFyre just before Stage 3 of the 2021-2022 school year, and funnily enough, we actually met each other and became friends while signing up for the dueling team. We both dueled later on in Stage 3, we both lost our duels and both of us were knocked out before being sent to the hospital wing. The reason I chose to become a duelist in the first place however, was because early on into my first year, I went to the morning slot if the Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw match to see what dueling was all about. Now back then, duels didn’t have a time limit like they do now and they lasted until both people on one team were knocked out so some of them could go on for quite a while.
Well, the duels were pretty fun to watch. I mean, one of the first things I saw was the Flipendo cast by Lamik, and boy was it a powerful one. I mean, he was a fourth year so what’d I expect? But then again, there are plenty of fourth years, who can’t cast a Flipendo that powerful so I guess he just practiced a lot. And guess what? His opponent cast a Flipendo on him too. It wasn’t as powerful as his from the looks of it though since he was in a better condition then her after he was hit, but whatever. And on one of the other matches, two Rictusempra’s and two Obscuro’s were cast although the one of the Obscuro’s missed. And then there was the other match where a Gryffindor boy cast a wind jinx on a Ravenclaw girl. He actually managed to split the spell so that it would hit the other Ravenclaw girl too had she not dodged. And I could go on and on explaining all three of those duels, and then the ones that followed during the evening slot, and the Hufflepuff vs Slytherin matches that happened on the next day, but that would take forever to write down.

It was Dec 2nd, only a few weeks before the Christmas break, which Rita would spend with her muggle family in London. And when Rita came back to her dorm, she found a letter waiting for her in the dorm. Clearly, her quill pal Dave had replied to her. Dave`s letter was quite long, but Rita was happy to know he was also a second year Hufflepuff, just like Rita. Dave is clearly a duelist and talked a lot about dueling and cheating in the games, which Rita did not know much about, and she was not super crazy about dueling. It just did not feel natural for her to cast spells on others and make others suffer. Clearly, spells were an excellent option to keep herself safe during dangerous times, but under natural situations, she did not want to make others suffer. Anyway, having a quill pal who knew a lot about dueling might be interesting, and maybe Rita would try her hand at dueling sometime in the future. Who knows. Anyway, without further thinking, Rita took her quill and a paper, and began to write a reply to Dave.Hi Dave,
Glad to hear from you! It is a pleasure to know that you are also a second year Hufflepuff, maybe we can meet in Hogwarts sometime in the future! By the way, I also have a little brother, but he is 7 years younger than me, so I think he would attend Hogwarts after I graduate. I have no idea what house he would be in!
Speaking about Quidditch, I really wish I had played for longer during that match against Gryffindor, but we win the match anyway, so at least it ended up good. Sorry for the Gryffindor kids who lost the match, better luck next time! Now I am looking forward to the spring match next year! Honestly, I don`t really know about other teams cheating, but thanks for the information, and I may watch out for the cheating teams next time.

It was Thursday, December 14th and I was down at the sports bar in my dorm, working on my potions homework. I kept looking back in the book for references and about half and hour after I had started doing it, I had finished it. It wasn’t my best effort, but it looked decent enough to get me an A. And besides, I didn’t want to spend more time on my homework then I needed to to get a passing grade. I put my potions homework away and as that was the last piece of homework I had, I was now free to go down to the Dueling Room to get some practice in. Half a minute later, I was walking across the Hufflepuff Common Room towards the exit, when all of a sudden, I remembered that I had a letter from Rita to respond to. Rita Su was my quill pal and she had sent me a letter some time ago, however, with everything else going on in my life I hadn’t had the time to sit down and begin a reply. Well, that was a lie, I had a good amount of spare time, I just spent it doing other things with Rita’s letter completely forgotten. I did send her two notes saying that I would send the letter later in the month and that I still wanted to be her quill pal in case she decided to change her mind. However, now that I had the free time to write a letter back to Rita without forgetting to do so, I went back to my dormitory and got out a few pieces of parchment, an envelope, a quill, a bottle of ink, and Rita’s letter before heading back to the And then, just to refresh myself on what the girl wrote, I reread the letter.
Once I had fully finished reading the letter, I uncorked my bottle of ink and dipped my quill into the it before beginning to write. As I wrote, I would cross out some parts and rewrite them so that they’d sound better, and then I’d also add things or completely remove them where I saw fit. By the time I had finished writing my first draft of my letter to Rita, the paper was very messy and hard to read which was why I got out a second piece of parchment and rewrote my letter to Rita. It took me a few minutes and to write out I did make some mistakes, mainly because of how hard my first draft was to read, so once I was done with my second draft, I took out a third piece of parchment and began rewriting my letter on that.
Once I was done writing my letter, I took the envelope I had brought and wrote “To Rita Su” on the front. I then took my bottle of ink, my quill, and the two blank pieces of parchment that I hadn’t used and went up to my bed to put them away. Once that was done, I went back down and grabbed my envelope, as well as my first two drafts before going up to the Owlery. On the way there, I threw away my first two drafts and once I was up at the Owlery, I tied my envelope to one of the snowy owls there and send it off to Rita.

I’m sorry for the very overdue reply. First things first, we’ll definitely meet each other in person sometime and because we’re both second year Hufflepuffs, it wouldn’t be too hard. And as for your younger brother, it really depends on his date of birth and if you give me his birthday in your next letter, then I will be able to make a fairly accurate prediction on whether or not he will come to Hogwarts in our seventh year. The reason why it won’t be a totally accurate prediction is because something might happen before our seventh year that could either cause you and your family to move out and start going to a different school, or cause him to die sometime in the future. Hopefully, neither will happen and life will go on like normal. I don’t really care what house he’ll be in as it wouldn’t affect his magical education here at Hogwarts. Back when my brother Matthew first came to Hogwarts, I was really hoping that he’d be sorted into Hufflepuff and was very disappointed when he was sorted into Gryffindor, but then I realized that him being sorted into a different house didn’t really matter and I even saw some advantages to him being in a different house then me.
Moving on though, I too, wish you had stayed on for longer during that match. But like you said, you guys won the match anyways so it doesn’t really matter. And now that you mention it, *turns towards the Gryffindor kids* hey Gryffindor kids, come here real quick, will you? Look what my quill pal wrote to you! But hey, at least she said better luck next time. Anyways, now that the Gryffindor kids are gone (they weren’t really here, that was just a joke) let’s move on to the rest of the letter. I too, am looking forward to the spring matches next year. And really, if you get knocked out so fast in your own match and you don’t watch the other match, then how do you expect to know who’s cheating and who’s not? I mean, yeah, you couldn’t really do anything about being knocked out, but you could’ve at least went to the other Quidditch Match. Not that it matters if you come or not because even if I was wrong and maybe you couldn’t go to the other Quidditch Match for whatever reason, at least I can tell you the outcome of it.
Now since you barely know anything about wizard dueling (there’s also muggle dueling), I’ma explain the concept to you as best as I can. A duel is a fight where two wizards or witches stand opposite of each other and cast spells on each other with the goal either killing or severely wounding their opponent, putting them in a position where they can’t fight back (e.g. disarming them of their wand and then summoning it, leaving the opponent wand-less), or knocking them out. The amount of wizards or witches on either side can be changed as sometimes there are two on one duels, two on two duels, three on one duels, and so on. It really just depends on the situation though. At Hogwarts however, official duels consist of four wizards or witches dueling with two on each team. The goal is to hurt the opposing team as much as possible within the time limit and hopefully knock both opponents out. The time-limit was only imposed during the last school year and before that people would duel until both people on a single team were knocked out. Back then, if the last people on both teams knocked each other out at the same time then this would result in a draw. Dueling at Hogwarts is pretty safe though as we have medics on set for when anyone gets knocked out and the Hospital Wing is right under the Dueling Room which makes it easy to get there once a duel ends.
And it’s perfectly okay if you don’t like hurting people under normal situations, I don’t either. The only reason why I’m okay with hurting people in a duel is because I know that they agreed to being hurt when they signed up to be a duelist. And yeah, they are fun to watch. My only problem with fires is that they hurt really bad, but a few hours after the duel it’s like they never happened so it’s all good. Ever since I have felt them in action however, I have tended to shy away from casting them unless I feel that the person on the receiving end of it deserves it. I cast an Incendio on an opponent in a previous duel when they had cast an Incendio Duo on me multiple times. The reason why it was only an Incendio is because back then I didn’t know how to cast Incendio Duo, but now that I do I won’t be afraid to use it in my next duel on anyone who torches me or my opponent too much.

I mean, yeah, you couldn’t really do anything about being knocked out, but you could’ve at least went to the other Quidditch Match. Not that it matters if you come or not because even if I was wrong and maybe you couldn’t go to the other Quidditch Match for whatever reason, at least I can tell you the outcome of it.
Now since you barely know anything about wizard dueling (there’s also muggle dueling), I’ma explain the concept to you as best as I can. A duel is a fight where two wizards or witches stand opposite of each other and cast spells on each other with the goal either killing or severely wounding their opponent, putting them in a position where they can’t fight back (e.g. disarming them of their wand and then summoning it, leaving the opponent wand-less), or knocking them out. The amount of wizards or witches on either side can be changed as sometimes there are two on one duels, two on two duels, three on one duels, and so on. It really just depends on the situation though. At Hogwarts however, official duels consist of four wizards or witches dueling with two on each team. The goal is to hurt the opposing team as much as possible within the time limit and hopefully knock both opponents out. The time-limit was only imposed during the last school year and before that people would duel until both people on a single team were knocked out. Back then, if the last people on both teams knocked each other out at the same time then this would result in a draw. Dueling at Hogwarts is pretty safe though as we have medics on set for when anyone gets knocked out and the Hospital Wing is right under the Dueling Room which makes it easy to get there once a duel ends.
And it’s perfectly okay if you don’t like hurting people under normal situations, I don’t either. The only reason why I’m okay with hurting people in a duel is because I know that they agreed to being hurt when they signed up to be a duelist. And yeah, they are fun to watch. My only problem with fires is that they hurt really bad, but a few hours after the duel it’s like they never happened so it’s all good. Ever since I have felt them in action however, I have tended to shy away from casting them unless I feel that the person on the receiving end of it deserves it. I cast an Incendio on an opponent in a previous duel when they had cast an Incendio Duo on me multiple times. The reason why it was only an Incendio is because back then I didn’t know how to cast Incendio Duo, but now that I do I won’t be afraid to use it in my next duel on anyone who torches me or my opponent too much.
