Across his shoulders and the bridge of his nose are freckles, more visible in the summer. hobbies Reducio Gavin has quite a few hobbies. He loves the outdoors and camping, but he’s particularly fond of rock- and tree-climbing and archery. Additionally, he’s a rather artsy kid. He can paint and enjoys photography. He’s also learned how to play the piano, taking what was basically a crash course from an older kid at his middle school on the public pianos. Specifically, he’s learned how to play a lot of old rock music, mainly from the 80s and 90s but sometimes earlier. Aside from his practical interests, he likes to pull pranks.

Scarlet Faulkner (39), Mother	Reducio Whenever Gavin’s dad was away for work on weekends, Scarlet was always willing to take him out camping. She taught him everything he knows, including training in archery. With Scarlet, he was always able to experience new things. They’re very close.
Nathaniel Faulkner (40), Father	Reducio Since Nathaniel is often working, Gavin didn’t get to talk to him much growing up. When he was around though, he would bring his son to see the city. Often, he would bring him to book stores and art museums. The one tradition they have is at least once a week, having tea and just talking.
Anise Faulkner (78), Paternal Grandmother	Reducio Anise is a lot like her grandson. She’s a bit rude, very passionate about certain topics. She even has a similar scar on her knee. She’s confined to a wheelchair, but Gavin will push her around whenever she wants to see the city. He likely picked up many of his snarky mannerisms from her.
Andrew "Andy" Ragno (13), Older Brother Figure	Reducio Andy was an upperclassman in Gavin's last muggle school, a very musically-inclined kid that was always hanging around the school's pianos. Gavin asked him to teach him how to play one day and they started scheduling lessons and finding time throughout the day to practice. They became really close in that time, like siblings. If he hadn't had parents of his own, Gavin's wouldn't have hesitated to adopt him.

REVIEW Reducio The Grishaverse gives me life, although I could never get through Ruin and Rising. Just because I would get such strong second-hand embarrassment. Six of Crows was the book that got me into the series in the first place, just some kid in the back of the Geography classroom reading through the lesson. I loved every part of it and Crooked Kingdom, AKA the sequel. I especially enjoy the differences between the characters, the different representations and manifestations of trauma. The way the characters interact, the richness of the world. My adoration of this book is very difficult to put into words, but it's been very impactful for me.

Reducio Scarlet Rosegrass and Nathaniel Faulkner met… at a funeral. Scarlet was 13 and Nathaniel was 14, attending the funeral of a mutual friend of their parents. While the two were mature enough to understand the seriousness, though, they were still teenagers. The procession didn’t capture their attention. Thus, as two of the few kids present, they hit it off pretty quickly. With Scarlet being a muggle, she had no idea that Nathaniel was going to a magic school. As kids, all she knew was that he went to some fancy boarding school in Scotland that had some very specific requirements. Still, whenever school was out, they started meeting up. Classic childhood best friends to lovers ensues. Scarlet and Nathaniel’s interests were certainly different. Scarlet loved the outdoors, activities, and anything that kept her moving. Nathaniel was quieter, more interested in art. Of course, that was also what brought them together. One summer, Scarlet had the idea of bringing Nathaniel on a hiking trip where he could take pictures. She had gotten her driver’s license earlier that year, so it was well within her ability to take them on a trip. At first, Nathaniel was hesitant. He was no hiker. Besides, why would Scarlet be willing to bring him out on a big hiking road trip? Wouldn’t it be more beneficial to bring someone more interested in that kind of thing? But in the end, he conceded. Scarlet brought them all over the British Isles. They weren’t just hiking. Sometimes she brought him deep into cities, showing sides that they wouldn’t normally see. Sometimes, she just brought them down to the beach. Whatever she had planned for them though, Nathaniel found himself enjoying it. The year after Nathaniel graduated from Hogwarts was the longest time the two had gone without seeing each other since they met. He was gone on an internship elsewhere, unable to keep in contact with his best friend. That year gave both of them the time to think things over and consider the bond that they had developed. In the end, when they met up after that year, they had a talk and started dating. Scarlet and Nathaniel got married a few years later, 10 years after they’d first met, and moved closer to Nathaniel’s mother, who lived just outside Oxford. Nathaniel got a local job, with Scarlet also working from home. Then, 5 years later, on 21 October 2010, Gavin Faulkner was born.

Reducio Gavin Elijah Faulkner was born on 21 October 2010 to Scarlet and Nathaniel Faulkner. He was a mischievous little boy, his innocent appearance often turning impish when a new, devious plan would form in his head. His parents certainly had their hands full when raising him. That said, the raising was often left to Scarlet, with her husband constantly working. Growing up, Gavin was quite the adventurous kid. He would take any chance he could to go hiking, running around through trees and streams and over rocks. It was a good thing his mother was as outdoorsy as he was, allowing her to watch him much better than if she was not. Because of their shared interest in the outdoors, Scarlet often took him camping on weekends when Nathaniel was away. They would camp out in the woods with their tents and sleeping bags, tell scary stories by the campfire, and do all the typical things that people would do on camping trips. However, beyond that, Scarlet was fond of teaching her son survival lessons. How to catch fish when you’re out on your own, how to start a fire manually, etc. Outside of camping, she also taught him how to shoot a bow from a young age, about 5. He started small, working his way towards ones like the longbow his mother used. Because of his lessons with his mother, he was proficient at all things outside. However, that certainly never stopped him from getting injured while climbing around. Particularly, after falling out of a tree when he was eight, he received a nasty scar on his right knee. As opposed to his wife’s more… wild approach, Nathaniel spent what time he could with his son showing him around the city. When Gavin showed an interest in art, Nathaniel jumped on that. On their excursions, the two would often visit art museums and bookstores. The pair also allotted time at least once a week so they could have tea and talk together, usually before Gavin went to bed. There was a lot more peace between the two. During those talks, Nathaniel would tell his son stories of his own time going to Hogwarts. It got the boy interested in magic, which would serve him well when he got to school, having spent some of his time reading his father’s old course books. Aside from his parents, Gavin was also close to his paternal grandmother, Anise Faulkner. The old woman was confined to a wheelchair, but her spunky attitude was a lot like her grandson's. They typically stayed at the woman’s house, with Gavin receiving “life lessons” while she knit. When they did go out, he would wheel her all around the city, all while she still gave him “life lessons.” His school life was… alright. He attended muggle school and got excellent grades, but his mischievous tendencies could go a little off the rails. His teachers did not appreciate his sarcastic comments and neither did his classmates. While some found it funny, most, decidedly, did not. Thus, despite his report cards having not a speck of dirt on them, his personal record was a mess of pranks and frustration. He was always a step removed from his peers because of those actions. It seemed like his only friend was his grandmother, sad as that was. The first time Gavin accidentally used magic was when he was seven, a little boy waiting for his mother to get home. He had himself wedged above the door, waiting patiently for her to show up with a bundle of garlands in his arms, dredged up from storage for Christmas. His little prank was not out of character, but it was a bit more complicated than normal, given his compromising position. When his mother finally walked in, though, Gavin missed his cue when the opening of the door startled him. He had been so focused he hadn’t heard her unlock it! By the time he had dropped the garland, she had gotten past the place where it would have hit her. However, in a stroke of magical luck, the garland seemed to come to life and wrap around the brunette woman’s waist, startling her enough to trip, barely catching herself before she could faceplant. She had yelled at the child, both for the danger of the prank and out of shock at the magic displayed. But once she finally calmed down, she pulled the child into a hug, closing the door in order to call her husband. When the boy finally got his Hogwarts letter years later, his reaction was one more of smug happiness than excitement. He knew he would get the letter! Now, he could only hope that his camera would work at school…
