The Sorting
I turned red very quickly and spluttered a response, "What, no! I- I didn’t mean to imply you were stupid I- I just assumed, seeing as you’re muggleborn, that- that this would be a little over your head a little! I- I just offered to help you for a few weeks! I mean, if thats true then it’s ok! I know hardly anything about muggles!" I rambled, I didn’t want her to think I thought she was stupid! I would never say that to anyone, especially to a girl! Interpret that as you will, but the majority of guys I know - admittedly, me including - have not cared much when their intelligence was put into question, girls I know (like… 4), half of them prided themselves on their mind.
Anyway, I am rambling.
"And of course we are friends! I’m glad you’ve said it!" I quickly stopped talking at the slight glare that got shot my way. Whoops, we missed around 6 callings.
I watched as a cocky lad walked up, you could say he was strutting, when suddenly, he tripped (Lucian will never know that a group of Gryffindor 7th years were sniggering to themselves watching the ego ridden boy).
I watched Ali out the corner of my eye a little, how she seemed to be… panicking maybe. I could pick something up in the air radiating from her. Fear? Erm, excitement maybe? I guess I sort of smelt this once… on one of the earliest transformations I had. I smelt it with my mum and dad.
I steeled myself before lightly brushing my hand across her smaller one. I didn’t grab her hand, I didn’t want to make her feel any sorts of uncomfortableness.
We got closer and closer to my name and my heart thumped. My adrenaline had slowly declined a few names ago. Panic clawed at my chest. Thump. What if the Hat decided I didn’t deserve to be in a house? Hatstall. Apparently Cain had had one - he’s my uncle’s best mate - and it was so embarrassing despite the flattering choice (Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, he got the latter).
"Mornstern, Lucian!" I heard my name called. I froze. I begged and begged myself to move, to not make a fool of me. Ali gave me a gentle nudge. I brushed my hand against hers again before walking up.
One step. Two step. Three step, four. After what felt like centuries, I sat upon the stool. Now I was scared for two reasons. Not only was I worried about what the Hat decided or how long, but I just realised how many people are staring at me. I felt myself start to panic until I picked Ali out of the crowd.
I can do this.
"Ooo, what do we have here. Hello Mr Mornstern," the Hat greeted. "I hear you have a little secret,"
What?
"Oh yes. I assure you, I won’t tell anyone. You could go in a lot of these. Not Ravenclaw though," my face burned at the insult.
I’ll have you know that I am smart!
"If you like, boy. I am not arguing with you. I have many people to place tonight if you hadn’t guessed, even your dear friend, Miss Rushing," I swallowed and nodded, listening to the Hat.
Courageous. Loyalty. Determination. Pride. Pureblooded.
"Ooo, you even have an ambitious streak Mr Mornstern!"
That’s when I knew.
"SLYTHERIN!" the Hat yelled. I actually bad a small smile on my face as the table at the end erupted in loud cheers. I felt wanted and they didn’t even know me!
I saw a few Gryffindor’s send glares at me, the same ones who jinxed that lad, and a couple more. They soon backed off when a few Slytherin’s looked back at them menacingly.
I hopped off the stool and passed the Hat to the professor next to me before walking to the table. I cast a fleeting glance at Ali as I walked off, trying to give her a thumbs up for luck!
Sitting down, I made sire there was a space next to me for whe— no, if. For if Alice got sorted here.
I hope she does but at the end of the day, I hope she is happy!

The Sorting
I clapped at the end of Lucian's sorting, copying his thumbs up back. I waited for a few more names to be called until it was finally my turn. I tilted my head high, but not in a snotty way. I wanted to try getting some respect from others in case it helped me in the future. I had a smile on my face until I sat down in the chair, my face going slightly rigid from fear of what would or could happen. The Sorting Hat was placed on my head and I went still, my face blank.
"A delicate, soft heart but a determined mindset. Not too difficult to put you where you belong.
I felt the blood drain out of my face when it said that last sentence. I did my best to keep my facial expression free of emotion. "Ah, trying to cover up fear, typical first years." I saw some people smiling or giggling from the tables out of the corner of my eye. I let a big grin wash over my face and that made the giggling a bit louder. I turned my face neutral again. "Hmm.. I think you'd be perfect in... HUFFLEPUFF." The hat was taken off my head and I speed walked toward a cheering crowd of kids and took an empty spot.

Lucian Dialogue | NPC dialogue
I heard the Hat yell out Hufflepuff and my heart dropped. I watched as Ali hopped off the stool and made her way over to her table, a few of them talking to her as the table slowed in claps.
Hufflepuff? Well, sighs at least its not Gryffindor! It wouldn’t look too weird us talking in the corridors. I’m not surprised she is a badger. At least she looks happy!
From what I’ve heard from my parents, the Hufflepuff common room is real nice. The people there too.
"Hey, welcome to Slytherin, Mornstern." greeted a boy in green robes. He was sat in front of me.
"H- hi. Th-th-thank you!" I managed to push out, having one more quick glance at a relatively happy Alice.
The boy smirked, "Got your eyes on someone, ay?" he asked with a teasing underscore to his cockney voice.
I turned back to him and shook my head quickly. "Psht, no! She’s my friend I met on the train," I explained, fiddling with my plastic lenses. One of my first friends to be honest. Charlie was my first friend, but I’m not sure if I will see her again.
While, initially, Millie and Andrew were okay when they were helping me… they sort of changed a few weeks later. Charlie thinks they just grasped the full meaning of what had happened. They moved house a few weeks after I was discharged from St Mungos.
Still don’t know where.
