Summer had begun and as studious as Adelaide was, she was also thankful to be able to relax for a while, especially after her end of year exams which had taken a lot out of her, and probably every other student, so summer was a very welcome treat. Ivy, her friend who she practically thought of as an older sister at this point because her actual older sister was awful, was staying with her for the first week of July. Her mother welcomed the two with open arms at the station yesterday, treating Ivy like one of her own. Her father, unsurprisingly, was away at the dragon reserve in Romania but Adelaide didn't much mind since he had a week off in the middle of July so the family could go visit her aunt, uncle and cousin in America. Her actual sister, Eloise, had left earlier today to spend the week at her friend's house. Thank Merlin, honestly. So it was just her, Ivy and her mother currently in the Barlowe manor. It was nice and quiet, at least.

Currently sat cross-legged on her bed, she stroked Nina's fur as her kitty slept peacefully in her lap. "What do you wanna do?" She asked Ivy. She wasn't sure if the older girl had yet to grow out of 'childish' games like hide and seek or tag, which would be pretty fun in a big, nearly empty manor, but she didn't want to risk asking in case the girl laughed at her. Even though she knew Ivy wouldn't do that, probably, but the last time she had asked Eloise to play hide and seek with her she had told her, not very nicely, to grow up. Which was ironic because Adelaide was pretty sure she's more mature than her, but whatever.

That was when an idea hit her, a lightbulb switching on in her head. It was a great, maybe slightly stupid, but mostly great idea. She gasped excitedly, "Hold on, I have the best idea. Okay, so a while back I read a Muggle Studies book in the library, right? I know, I don't need to read it right now since I'm not a third year but Muggle things really interest me so I just had to read it," she stopped to take a breath when she realized she was rambling, "anyway, there was this whole entire chapter on these things called movies and cinemas. Apparently they're like moving images? Like our wizarding photographs but... Muggle way, and they tell a story like a book. I think. But you probably know that since you actually do Muggle Studies. So, how about we go to one of these cinemas in London and go see a movie?" When she finally got her idea out, she looked at Ivy with an excited glint in her eye, "we can go to Diagon Alley first to get Muggle currency, steal a few of the wizarding sweets we have downstairs and try to find one of these cinemas!"

She couldn't help it as a bright grin spread across her face at her brilliant idea. If Ivy agreed to it, this was going to be so fun. Also a learning experience too, so she can technically say she was just getting ahead in her studies. Her mother would probably let the two go anyway if they promised to be careful.

2nd July, 2022. Saturday morning.
PV thread with @Adelaide Barlowe.
The first week of Ivy's summer holidays would be spent at one of her closest childhood friend's house. She was hopping from one house to another every week or so this summer until camp in August, and leaving around four or five days in total with her actual parents. It was intentional on her part; Ivy had no desire to spend more time with them than what was necessary - especially not during summer break, which was meant to be a time of relaxation and recuperation from a busy school year... and heavens knew that the last year had been hectic for Ivy.

The Barlowe house had always felt like a safe place for Ivy. Evelyn and Sebastian were better parents to her than her actual parents were, and she absolutely adored both of the Barlowe sisters, especially Adelaide, whose perfectionism and bluntness reminded her so much of her own younger self that it was almost comical. Even with Sebastian and Eloise out of town, the house felt more alive than Ivy's ever did. As a child, she had often wished that they were her real family, because their happiness seemed so uncomplicated and complete compared to her own family's dynamic. She knew now that she had been romantacising Adelaide and simplifying her home life - she wasn't thinking about the animosity between Eloise and Adelaide, or the long stretches of time where Sebastian was gone, or the non-existent relationship that they had with the other Barlowes. But still, even now, sitting across from Adelaide on her bed, Ivy found herself in the middle of the same childish daydream, and it wasn't until the Ravenclaw spoke that she pulled herself out of it.

"Hm?" She reached out to scratch Nina behind the ears. Her own cat was probably downstairs sucking up to Evelyn. Adelaide the cat had taken quite a shine to Adelaide the person's mother in the last 24 hours, and Ivy couldn't deny that she was slightly offended at her cat's preference for someone else... but anyway. "Oh, I don't really mind..." Ivy trailed off, watching a bird fly past Adelaide's window. She looked back at the younger girl when she started rambling, unable to stop the corners of her lips turning upwards in a smile at Adelaide's innocent excitement. "That sounds great, Addie," she said, sitting up and stretching. She'd been to shows in a theatre before, but never to a Muggle movie. This would be a pretty interesting experience, to say the least. "Let's do it!"

Fast forward to approximately an hour later, the two of them were strolling along a road arm in arm. Having exchanged a few galleons for Muggle money and stuffed a handful of sweets in their pockets, now all there was left to do was find the damn cinema. "Where does one find a cinema...?" Ivy wondered out loud. "Maybe we ought to go find a map. Oh, maybe we need to take a Muggle bus! Should we ask someone?" She glanced over at Adelaide, looking for her reaction. Honestly, this was harder than she'd thought. Ivy frowned and looked around for the nearest Muggle...

"Really?" Her eyes lit up as Ivy agreed to going to see a Muggle movie. She shot up from her bed excitedly, petting Nina one last time and planting a kiss on the cat's head before heading downstairs to tell her mother what they were going to do. Hopefully she wouldn't mind, since she had Adelaide the cat to occupy her, and Nina too. Plus, she was going to be with Ivy, so they'd be fine. And neither girl was stupid enough to utter a word about the Wizarding World to Muggles.

Thankfully, her mother had been okay with it (after giving them a lecture on staying safe) and now it was an hour later and her and Ivy were strolling through Muggle London arm in arm, sweets weighing down both of their pockets. It was slightly surreal walking down a road full of Muggles, doing Muggle things, most of them holding those boxes that she can vaguely recall is called a phone. The duo definitely didn't belong here, even though they didn't look anything out of the ordinary. Just a pair of teenagers walking down the road, enjoying the start of summer.

"That's a great question," Adelaide bit her lip, glancing around for a cinema. Maybe she should've thought about this more, she didn't actually know what a cinema looked like. Would it have a sign that said cinema on it? Hopefully. "Maybe we should ask a Muggle... do you think we need to take a bus? Would we have enough money? How much does the cinema even cost?" Exchanging their coins for notes was weird, and she couldn't help but wonder why Muggle money was merely a piece of paper. That would be very easy to rip in half, which didn't seem that convenient. What good was ruined money? Muggles were certainly interesting creatures.

Just as she was about to go ask a Muggle where in Merlin she could find a cinema, something caught her eye. "Hey! Look! That says cinema!" She pointed to a flashing sign above a building, that very clearly stated 'cinema' on it. "Well, that should be where we're looking to go. Shall we?" She pulled Ivy along excitedly until they reached the building. Now all they had to do was choose a Muggle movie, however they were meant to do that. "Uh, so... how do we see what movie we want now?" Her gaze caught on a screen that showed different titles and times with a 'Now showing' above it. "Oh, this must be it."

She walked over to it, trying to act as if she knew what she was doing. She had never once heard of any of these movies, so she wasn't sure why she was reading each one. "What one do you want to see? If the numbers beside it are the times showing, the next one is this movie called 'Black Widow' which is showing in... 10 minutes," she pointed to the movie that she was talking about, "Do you wanna see that? I'm not sure why Muggles would enjoy a movie about a poisonous, deadly spider but there's probably weirder movies out there. Muggles are interesting." She kept her voice to a whisper, so any lingering Muggles wouldn't be able to hear her. If Ivy didn't want to see any other movie, it appeared the first Muggle movie Adelaide was going to watch would be about a deadly spider. Well, this would certainly be interesting.
