"You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart"
—The Sorting Hat

The Great Hall is a large room with four long tables where students of each House sit during the day and at mealtimes. A majestic enchanted ceiling that mirrors the outside weather is watching over people in the room.

When you just pass the door from the Entrance Hall, Gryffindor table is next to the far side of the Hall. You have to walk past all three other tables to get to sit with the Lions. Maybe you will be able to eat and discuss with Nearly Headless Nick.

This is an RPG topic where all students are welcome to post. All RPG rules apply. Word count per post is 200 words, not including quotes, OOC chat or other people's words. Any flood type of message will be deleted and a warning owl is sent.

Reena looked forward to coming back to Hogwarts, even if it meant school. Her summer was enjoyable in some form, true, but she had developed a newfound determination to actually be worth something this year. And she couldn't wait to get started. The thing was, as she looked at all the faces, she noticed the urge to meet every single one of them... was gone. From what she had seen and heard in her first year, she assumed this was only something good. It was hard to trust anyone, really, when they could just set your pants on fire any second if they please. Not that she was complaining about the spells. The more dangerous the spells she learned, the better. The devilish child on her shoulder had all sorts of plans forming. She could defend- her conscious rang out. But the devil knew what Reena was thinking of the whole time. She wanted to see someone hurt. Not physically, but maybe just a tiny scratch or something. Maybe to show that Reena had some sort of guts in her. The most likely reason was steam that she needed to let off. Steam.

Brushing the thought of spells from her mind, she sat in the self driven carriages and sat silently. She only just realized something. Before Hogwarts, she had a million friends and best friends. But during her first year- she never met a real friend. She made friendly acquaintances, but not a single friend. of course during summer camp, she grew considerably close to George Rees. At the thought of the only person she considered a friend, her heart jerked and she sat up just a bit taller. She searched every face for George, but she was no where to be seen. Her heart dropped about a millimeter. Oh well. She was quite okay with being alone as of now, it seemed she had lot's to think about.

She followed the rest of the older students into the castle, glad to see that (no matter how much her fellow second years had grown) she was still one of the tallest in her year. She smiled slightly, having always taken pride in her height. This allowed her to move through the crowd easily, something she had always helped George with during summer crowds. She entered the great hall and sat down, looking over the heads of people for George. but she didn't see her curly hair at the Slytherin table. Slowly dragging her eyes from the snake table, she looked at the great hall doors. The first years came in and she widened her eyes. Why were they so small? She was definitely never that small. Their eyes were wide and some looked even scared. Did Reena look like that? Half of them had their mouths wide open in shock, as if they wanted to catch a fly. Reena scrunched her nose for a second. It was weird to not be with them this year. She turned to the front and leaned over slightly to watch the sorting ceremony begin. She clapped politely for other houses, but she clapped loudest for Gryffindor. She still needed to show some sort of spirit. If anyone sat next to her, she'd say"Congrats on the best house" If the first year tried to talk to her, she'd do her best to sound interested.

Juni sat down at the Gryffindor Table where there was a gap and smiled happily. The Gryffindor's were brave and kind and these were words that always described Juni by his family and friends.

Juni's stomach gave a loud rumble and he finally realised how hungry he was. He saw golden cutlery and plates lined up along the long tables. They were all empty.
Suddenly, out of thin air found appeared down all of the tables and people started digging into the food.

Juni looked for roast potatoes as these were one of his favourite foods. He finally spotted them and reached for the bowl of which they were in. He caught his finger on the bowl and dragged them towards himself. He piled some onto his plate and began munching.

He had a roast dinner with roast potatoes, brocoli, carrots, turkey and gravy, Juni was not all that fond of stuffing so he left it.

Juni hadn't had a roast dinner for years since his mother left it felt amazing as if the whole in his heart had been filled. Until, he remembered how his sister, Anna, had always played with her food and would make faces using her food. A pit in his stomach appeared and lost his appetite for the main food.

He wondered if there would be pudding and was thrilled when the pudding replaced the main course. He saw trifle, cake and ice cream. He piled his now bowl with Strawberry, Vanilla and Chocolate ice cream. This was the ice cream he loved he ate the Vanilla first, then the Chocolate and then the Strawberry. Least favourite at the start and favourite last.

His stomach full, the food along the tables vanished and it was time to go to the Dormitory.

Audrey was quite hungry this morning. It was her first day in Hogwarts and she was super excited about what it feels like to eat with hundreds of people. She even thought of making some friends. Audrey has only two friends, namely, CeCe and Ellie.
She quickly dressed up with a smile on her face. She walked down the stairs, scanning the whole hall for CeCe and Ellie. Both of her friends were in Ravenclaw and it was impossible for her to sit with them.
She suddenly got upset, her smile wiped away. She never realised she didn't have any friends in her own house, Gryffindor. But then, she gathered up her courage and made up her mind to make a friend in Gryffindor. Even if it's not first years, Audrey has to make some friends in her own house.
It will be quite silly to think that Audrey made friends in other houses but not in hers. She set off, passing the three long tables of other Houses and finally reaching the Gryffindor table.
She was quite nervous, but she still put up her courage, gave a sweet smile and started walking confidently.
She walked towards an empty seat and sat there. She looked beside her to find a girl, maybe one year older than her, sitting alone. Or maybe it was just her imagination, the people sitting beside her might be her friends.
Anyway, Audrey took a deep breath and said, "Umm.... Hello! I am Audrey. Audrey Amanda. And you?" I gave a smile to her and nervously waited for the response.

The peace of sitting alone didn't last long. Reena was focused on the food in front of her (she was quite hungry) and was busy deciding what she wanted to eat. She always wanted to be vegetarian, but she never was committed. Her heart honestly debated not eating any meat, but one sniff of the albondigas before her, and she was a goner. Her mother always cooked that for her, it was her favorite soup. As she was taking a spoonful from her bowl, someone sat next to her. She didn't look at them, hoping beyond hope that they would just her eat or soup in peace. But it clearly was too much to ask for when they cheerfully introduced themselves to her. Reena set her spoon down slowly and turned to the girl, forcing a smile on her face. "Hungry. I am hungry. Thanks for asking." She turned back to her soup but stopped. She wanted to at least try and sounded like she was nice, right? She gave a laugh. "I'm just joking with you. Of course I'm just joking. "

She looked at the girl again. "I'm Reena." And that was all. The girl didn't need to know her last name, she barely knew the girl. Wait, this girl's name was Audrey Amanda? That seemed a tad bit weird, both of her names sounded like first names and began with the letter 'a'. She, of course, kept those thoughts to herself and turned back to her soup. "Sooo. Hogwarts- pretty cool, right." She dragged her words slightly, trying to sound like a good person. This first year probably had a lot on their mind just about now.

"Hungry. I am hungry. Thanks for asking." She said. Audrey felt like it was a mistake starting a conversation with her? Or was she least interested in talking to someone and wanted to drink her soup. For a minute Audrey felt likely to be quiet but then the girl laughed and spoke up, "I'm just joking with you. Of course I'm just joking. "
It felt like it was something forced. Did Audrey so something wrong? She was getting more nervous. She never knew starting up a conversation with a second year will be so much different.
The girl looked at Audrey again and said, "I'm Reena."
Audrey was going to give a compliment but thought better of it and simply nodded.
The environment wasn't quite nice. Maybe it wasn't the right time to make friends.
Unexpectedly, Reena started chatting, "Sooo. Hogwarts- pretty cool, right." Audrey smiled. Maybe she could give it a try one more time.
"Yeah. It's so much huge, I sometimes forget my classes. I like exploring Hogwarts but without friends it seems quite boring.
Anyways, your name is so much good. And about my name, I know, you might have already guessed it. Both my first name and title sound to be two first names of someone. And I too feel it weird to accept."
She finished. Maybe she spoke too long?
"Um... Do you have any friends?" She looked at Reena, "I mean, anyone with whom you would like to explore Hogwarts?"

The girl evidently doubted talking to Reena was a good idea, and Reena secretly agreed. But a part of her, a bit deeper down, felt a bit bad for the girl. New big castle. Everyone except you seemed to know magic- but the truth was; everyone started at the same place. Reena nodded, agreeing with the girl. "Yeah... it is a bit huge." Reena has always been taller, so she never had a problem with the huge amount of kids or the size of the castle. She found it cool, not intimidating. "Are you uhh... from this world? Like- are you a wizard-born or a muggle born?" She was guessing that she was a muggle-born, but she totally could be wrong. She just assumed if the girl grew up knowing she was a wizard, she would know some wizard people. "Not that it matters, or anything." she said hastily, taking another spoon of her soup.

She forced a smile at the compliment. Reena hated compliments. She didn't deserve them. She never did. But she pretended to be thankful. "Thanks- but if it makes you feel better, my real name is Irene. Not so pretty." She squinted at the girl. How did the girl know exactly what she had been thinking? Totally weird. There's no way someone this young could read minds, so it must have been a coincidence. She forced another smile."No no- you're name is super pretty." She tried to sound like she meant it. It was pretty!

Then the girl asked a question that Reena had been thinking about earlier. She fell silent and took a few scoops of her soup. She felt like the girl was trying to say something, something rude maybe. But she probably wasn't. Still, Reena couldn't help but give her a look.

Still, she wanted to answer. "Yeah, yeah of course I have friends." Which was true on it's own, but the girl seemed to- for some reason- for one single second- Reena felt intimidated by her. Audrey seemed like the girl who had loads of friends, more friends than Reena. "Loads. I have loads of friends. Like, sooo much. " She lied. She only had 1 to 3 friends. "People are... super friendly here." She added sadly.

"Well that doesn't sound convincing," said Finnegan. "No offense."

He'd just finished loading up his plate with food while Audrey and the girl calling herself Reena had been making awkward attempts at conversation. He arched a sly brow at Reena and noticed the flash of braces on her teeth and had half a mind to ask if there wasn't some spell that could fix her teeth for her. It had worked for him, even if it had been an accident. "Sorry, couldn't help but hear you two talking," he added with an apologetic smile. "I near got lost just finding this place again," he said to Audrey, "but I couldn't miss the smell of food, it's well lush*," he concluded with a soft moan. "I could keep eating forever."

No sooner then he'd said as much he shifted his attention to his plate and started shovelling food down his mouth with the grace of a brick. He wasn't just hungry, he was proper starving! All the excitement of getting a wand, going on the train, being sorted, and all the rest of it had taken its toll. The amount of food he'd stacked on his plate seemed entirely too much for him, but he was something of an optimist.

"Name's Finnegan," he said to both of the girls between a mouthful of ham on toast. "Amazing name, I know, I know, but most people just call me Finn" he grinned. "And a Muggle born," he added thoughtfully. His relentless chewing slowed to a halt as a frown emerged on his face. "But I'm not sure that's a good thing, some people don't seem to like that much. What about you?" his eyes landed on Audrey's porcelain-like face.

*lush = Welsh English meaning it's good, sometimes "well lush", usually referring to food.

It was a kind of depressed environment. Audrey didn't knew how to continue up with this conversation. But then Reena spoke up. Audrey listened to her.
"I am a half-blood. But I am still like almost all muggles. I don't know much about this world because my mom never said she was a witch." Audrey replied.
Reena said that her name wasn't pretty but actually it was, but Audrey somehow was hesitant to give her a compliment because Reena was giving her a forced smile. Which she didn't knew exactly why.
Reena then said that she didn't meant anything that way about Audrey's name. Her facial expression clearly showed the sign of confusion.
"You need not pretend about it. I mean, everyone says that, so there is no exception. Hope you don't feel bad."
As expected, she had many friends. Audrey was the one fool still waiting to make friends.
"Yeah, Hogwarts is friendly but.... I never made friends. I mean, I have, but not the ones who will be with me when I need them or someone who will stay with me lifelong.
Anyways, I am still happy! Because I want to make this world a better place and everyone needs to forget about sadness."

Audrey tried to be positive. Everything will go well. She can't always stay stuck in one atitude her whole life and make others feel uncomfortable.
Then suddenly a boy appeared from behind and said it wasn't convincing and he intended no offense, anyway.
Audrey kept listening to him when atlast he said that he could eat forver.
"That's the fact," Audrey said, "Food served here are so much amazing that even if your stomach is full, you won't hesitate taking atleast one bite of everything once more."
Audrey saw him eat and thought of a way of making positive conversations with Reena. Audrey was lost in her thought when he started speaking again.
He said he was Finnegan and boasted a bit about his name. He said that people call him Finn and he is a muggle born.
His face then turned into a frown. Audrey worried, did she give him an inappropriate expression or something? But Finn actually wanted to ask about Audrey's opinion about Muggle borns.
"Well, I think everyone must be treated well, whether a muggle born or a pure blood. If Hogwarts has allowed the muggle borns a chance to study magic, they do deserve it. Don't worry Finn, I never differentiate students with their blood type."
Audrey looked at him, hoping he felt better. She suddenly remembered Reena and looked towards her. But suddenly again got distracted when a second boy came up to them.
He started explaining Finn that it's not bad been a Muggle-born. Audrey smiled, atleast he could feel better.
She turned towards Reena once more time and asked, "Why do you ignore others? I mean, I really want to make friends, and as you have loads of friends, you probably might be really friendly with them. So, can't we act like friends like others?" Audrey smiled, hoping to get a reply.

Finnegan arched a sly eyebrow at the dark-haired boy next to him, who had introduced himself as Terry, and then to Audrey. "I'm not so sure everyone feels the same way." He'd read the article in the Daily Prophet on the way to Hogwarts and though Terry and Audrey might not give a hoot about purebloods, half-bloods or muggle-borns, the papers clearly did.

Maybe he had just been unlucky, but he had already taken note of some dirty looks being thrown his way, usually by students in far better quality of dress than himself. It had just been handful, but enough to notice. Sometimes Finnegan wondered what it was about him that screamed muggle-born and if there was a way to better hide it.

The subject had greatly diminished his appetite and with a faint smile he attempted to switch topics. He lowered his voice and leaned in conspiratorially "I've been thinking that the best friends to make here are the ghosts. Just think about it! They can go anywhere, see anything! I've been trying to make friends with the Fat Friar and convince him to scare George for me..." his voice trailed off for a moment. So far he'd had little luck with his plan. The Fat Friar was a kind, merry ghost who was better at talking than listening. "George Henry I mean," he clarified, then glanced over his shoulder toward the Hufflepuff table. "Trust me, he deserves it."
