Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff
Saturday, 30th of April 2022
It was a week after the students had returned from their Easter break, just enough time to squeeze in some last minute duelling practice, work on the synergy with your partner, or cram a few new spells into your head. The weather outside showed spring moving towards summer, temperatures rising and finally the last remains of snow melting (hopefully for good, until come winter).
That day marked the first day for the last stage of the 2021/22 Duelling Championship - which was still wide open, and the champion House would be decided on this day and the next. Saturday, first of the two days of the third stage, would see Gryffindor's team, the Pride of Pendrast, facing off against Hufflepuff's Blazing Badgers. If Gryffindor wanted an earnest shot at the cup, they would have to earn a decisive victory today. The Blazing Badgers had had a bad run so far this season, but at the very least deserved respect and support for their great sportsmanship, and for persevering as long as they had. Who knew - perhaps they would manage to snatch a few wins today, and trip up the Lions as they reached for the championship title?
The Duelling Room was a large room, with long stages set up in the centre. Three pistes, in fact. Lines had been drawn on the ground to signify where the spectators should stand - a safe distance behind the referees and professors. This was primarily to keep them from being victims to a random stray spell that could have been misfired. That space was already filled with students dressed in red and yellow, waving banners and cheering for their respective House, with a number of Ravenclaws and Slytherins strewn in between.
On the front door of the room and again on the wall, a large poster stuck up containing the timetable for duels for spectators wishing to view specific friends. There were two main slots the morning slot and the afternoon slot. Each timeslot had three games - two pairs per game. Some students opted to come for just one game; others chose to attend all of them. It was entirely up to the spectators.
There was an hour slot booked in, by which all three of the duels will definitely have ended. An hour break to tend to the wounded and reset before the next set of duellists stepped in.
The stakes were high, and the tension in the air palpable. Let the day one games begin.

Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff

· || ────────────────── ⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅ ────────────────── || ·
It was Saturday, April 30th, 2022.
Once again, it was morning time but not early.
Still, it was the time Kim least liked because he was not a morning person.
He didn't like getting up anytime before 10AM, especially when it came to the weekends. Luckily, the dueling matches that were being held started at 10:30AM which was perfect.
Kim liked to support his House whenever he could, as long as it didn't involve heights or getting up earlier than 10AM. But this time he had a different reason for attending and that was to support his mentor and 'friend' Regina Miller. It was going to be her first duel and she'd seemed to hint to him that she wanted him to be present for the match. She hadn't said the exact words but by now Kim knew her pretty well enough to guess a few things about her.
He could also sense certain things about Regina without needing to hear the words. Sometimes he was wrong but often he was right about his deductions. It wasn't so much an ability as it was just being perceptive and taking the knowledge he knew about her and putting it into play using his brain. So he'd come to the matches. For both her sake and the sake of his House. As usual, Kim arrived early, his priority being early or late, never on time.
This was to avoid crowds.
The last thing Kim wanted was to get caught up in one of those.
He stood off to the side behind the lines drawn on the ground for the spectators. It wasn't too far to the side, as the duelists would be able to see him easily from the stage area. But it wasn't directly in the middle either, which might involve being squished between other spectators. Kim was dressed in his Gryffindor robes but was not carrying or holding a banner.
Why?
He would have felt kind of embarrassed over doing something like that.
Even though he knew there was no reason to be.
The mere idea of this was making his cheeks heat up and Kim shook his head, trying to banish such thoughts. Kim watched as a few other people trickled in 5 minutes later and more after that, some holding banners and others like him just coming to support their Houses or friends. And then, the matches started and his attention focused upon Regina's match, Match 2. Thankfully, he'd chosen the right area. Match 2 was directly in front of him.
Kim cheered along with the rest of his House when Regina and Aurelia stepped onto the stage. He was also going to pay close attention to these duels since eventually he intended on joining the dueling club too. But for right now, he had too much on his plate to consider doing so. And he also didn't have enough confidence with the spells he'd learned so far. Maybe sometime in the future he'd practice and train until he felt good enough to tackle this.
Until then, he'd just support his House and his friends.
Regina's words to her teammate made him smirk. Of course she was right.
They would show everyone that Gryffindor was a force to be reckoned with. Although, he did have to admit, it wouldn't be wise to underestimate Hufflepuff.
After all, Hufflepuff was where Stalker was from. Not that that had any bearing on today's performances. Kim let his eyes flicker over to the opposing team against them. One was a boy who looked very nervous but that could also have been part of his scheme. The other was a girl who had the same bearing as Regina but a little less in his opinion. She didn't seem nervous at all to him. At least not at the moment. Who knew what would happen to her later.
Once the duel started everything could change. For all four participants.
The only thing that was guaranteed was that a winner and a loser would emerge at the end of the duel. Kim looked back over at Regina and the girl next to her who was her partner.
Aurelia.
The latter seemed very quiet and he wondered if that was intentional or not. If it was, that was a great technique. Kim met Regina's eyes before the duel began and flashed her a smile.
At least his attempt at one.
Hopefully it had come off as more than a smirk.
He wasn't used to trying to give a genuine smile to others.

The duel had begun and Kim was already hooked on the events.
He'd always been interested in dueling but didn't have any experience in them at all.
Therefore, he'd stayed away from signing up for the dueling club, up until now. After all, Kim wanted to practice with the spells he'd learned until he was confident in them.
For now, he was content just to watch the match, and support his mentor and friend Regina Miller. From the look of things, it seemed as if she was doing well for her first time. Regina's partner, cast something that looked awesome. But unfortunately, it missed her initial target. However, fortunately, it didn't seem to go in Regina's direction. The Hufflepuff, David, tried to cast something at Regina but his spell ended up failing on him, and Kim smirked at him.
Served that Hufflepuff right!
He obviously hadn't focused enough on his spell to make it work correctly for him.
It had been the number one rule he'd learned in class as a first year. The most important thing was to focus all of your attention on the spell and then clearly pronounce every syllable.
Kim had actually expected him to make a mistake at some point during the duel. Why? Because he'd seemed really nervous at the very beginning and nervousness resulted in trembling fingers. It could also cause distress inside the mind and disrupt your focus. All of that combined would definitely result in some kind of mess-up at some point in time. It had happened way sooner than he'd originally thought it would. But it was great for the Lions...
He cheered for Regina and Aurelia.
But not too much, after all he didn't want to distract them from the next round of spells.
Regina's Incendio had been beautiful and she had looked quite regal casting the spell. Kim smiled as he thought back on the vision. Ah, damn. He should have tried to record this match. Maybe those in charge had that covered, it was an event. David burning up a bit made Kim's lips twitch. Well, he was definitely more sturdy than he had thought originally, props to him. He was very curious to see how much longer David would last for the rest of the match.

Ever since Felix started Hogwarts, he’d been into duelling. It had taken time for him to get used to the weirdness of the magical world, it was overwhelming for Felix, and at first, he was hesitant about everything. Being a generally cautious person, it was nerve wracking having everything around you change so rapidly, as well as having to dive in fresh and vulnerable practically unarmed. However, there had been a couple of exceptions to what had made felix want to rip his hair out the first few days. One was the magical creatures, and plants. Oh how wonderfully different and exotic everything was. He’d taken out a mountain of books from the library on the various species of flora and fauna alike. He’d always been interested in this sort of thing as a young boy but damn, in the magical world it was so much more interesting. The second was duelling. Now Felix hadnt ever really seen the hype around quidditch, or broom racing. While it was undoubtedly exciting- and he did get quite competitive about it, his mind was totally captivated by the idea of duelling. During the first few days of his Hogwarts life, he already concluded that he’d sign up for the duelling team as soon as he knew some adequate spells. Felix couldn't quite put into words his fascination for such a thing, but he adored it. So that was why, on this particular day, he let a rare smile blossom its way onto his features and he made his way to the duelling room. Hufflepuff vs Gryffindor, and it was quite obvious who Felix wanted to win. Although he hated his house, he couldn't help the tinge of competitiveness that came out whenever the houses were at battle.
Felix had not brought anything with him. No banner, no flag, nothing to wear with pride. He was content just sitting and watching peacefully. Felix might be a brash and okay, rather conflict-seeking individual, but he was content with being at peace most of the time. The duel had begun, and Felix watched intently as the show went on, eyes darting forth and back, he hardly had time to look around, see who else was there to support their house. This was why Felix nearly broke his neck with shock as he turned to see squirrely boy sitting not far off from him. Now it was rare that anything could distract felix from watching the duellers, but in this case…
He slipped towards the boy, creeping up on him silently, his long strides having him standing right behind the boy in no time. He took a few glorious seconds to admire the silky texture of the shorter boy before leaning towards his ear so that he was practically breathing on his neck and whispering into kims ear.
“Hello.”
Simple, but surely enough to scare the boy out of his wits since he’d not expected him coming. Felix’s breath was practically fanning across Kims neck, and he made sure to jerk his head back to avoid getting hit over the nose in response.

Kim was paying attention to the duel, that was where all his attention had gone.
So when Felix crept up on him, he wasn't expecting it at all.
He nearly jumped out of his chair when a warm breath was felt upon his neck and his head whipped around to face the owner of said breath. Of course it would be Stalker.
For once, Kim's eyes narrowed at the other boy and he was able to keep his wits about him. But that might have something to do with the fact that he didn't want his time supporting Regina to get interrupted by Felix. Still, all the Hufflepuff had done was greet him. Maybe he didn't want to cause trouble this time. "You come to support your House?" Kim asked as he let his eyes flicker over him. That was most likely the reason for Felix's appearance now.
That or he had an interest in dueling like Kim, which he could completely understand.
If not, why was he even there in the first place?
Surely Felix hadn't come just to bother and annoy Kim, right? "They aren't doing too well, so they probably need your cheers." He added with a smirk.

tw| swearingFelix watched as the boy jolted in his seat, and couldn't stop the small smirk that left his lips.
"You come to support your House?"
Felix blinked, once, twice. Was the boy being polite, sweet, colloquial? Had he forgotten their previous bickering and regular hallway disputes? He decided not to reply, and instead flickered his eyes back to the match, crossing his arms over his chest and frowning. He waited for Kim to speak again, which he did.
"They aren't doing too well, so they probably need your cheers." Oh there it was.
Felix sneered at the boy, flicking hair from his eyes as he took a seat next to him. He watched the boys expression and the small smirk that lingered, complimenting the teasing tone that was so surely meant to rile up Felix.
“Fuck off.” Was all he could say at the moment, because Kim was right. Hufflepuff was losing. He still had faith in the duellers though, you never really knew what could happen. Magic was often unpredictable.
“Why are you even here dipshit, since when do you care about duelling?” It was more of a throwaway comment, but Felix was certainly curious about the younger boy's answer. Since when did he ever care about duelling? Felix has pointed Kim as a typical quidditch boy. Not one who played of course, but maybe one of those crazy fans. It took him more than a second to realise that he actually didn't know anything about squirrel boy. Apart from the fact that he was a gryffindor, looked adorably small, seemed shy and cute bashful and was certainly downright annoying. If Felix hadn’t been so focused on the duel, he might have stopped to consider how normal Kim was acting today. Part of Felix liked it, but part of him didn't. Wait, since when did he like anything about Kim? Ugh the point was, the boy didnt seem to be flustered, he wasn't blushing, as far as Felix could see. He wasn't stumbling over his words in the cute way he usually did when Felix was around… Was he that fixated on the duel?

Little did Felix know but he was having quite an effect on Kim.
It was just that Kim was trying very hard not to let that show on the outside this time.
He could feel his heart pounding and wondered if it was going to break out of his chest. Kim was even getting lightheaded which wasn't good. The last thing he needed was to pass out during a duel, where he was supporting a girl he considered to be an older sister. But it didn't seem as if Felix knew what he was doing to him. At least looking over at Regina made his equilibrium return. That was all he had to do to retain his sanity, that was swiftly being lost.
As long as he didn't look too long into Felix's eyes and Felix himself didn't get extremely close to him, Kim thought he should be able to handle it this time. He'd show Felix he could stand up for himself! After the ball... Kim literally didn't know what to think about Felix. What the boy had done... he still didn't understand it. All this time he'd thought Felix had just wanted to mess with him and annoy him for some reason. He seemed like the type to do that stuff.
Not to mention the fact that Felix appeared to be very competitive.
But then...
Felix had to go and do something like that... completely confusing Kim. Since he didn't know how to deal with this knowledge, he'd decided to not deal with it at all.
Which was why upon seeing him again for the first time after the ball had ended, Kim had reacted in a different manner towards Stalker. But he wasn't sure how long he would be able to keep this pretense up. The boy still had quite an effect on him. Felix was still too pretty for him to handle and any second Kim felt as if he was going to end up a stuttering mess again. Which made his cheeks flush at the thought. He really wasn't like this, so why did he do this?!
He always felt so different when it came to Felix. What was it about him? There was something slightly different than before. Could Felix have gotten prettier???!!! Was that even possible? Maybe it was because of what he'd done to him at the ball, during the game. Perhaps that was why Kim felt different about him. He blinked, coming back to the present, and looked over at Felix. A faint smirk came to his lips. Maybe he could mess with him now.
Kim turned around to face Felix.
"What? Are you scared if I join the dueling team, you'd be no match for me?" He asked with an arched brow. As Felix seemed to be caught inside his own thoughts, Kim took advantage of this rare opportunity to reach up and grasp the Hufflepuff's tie. He yanked downward on it, bringing Felix's face closer to his own. It would be rather easy for Felix to break free if he really wanted to, as Kim didn't put much strength into his grip on the gold tie.
He looked deep into Felix's beautiful eyes and steeled himself inside.
Yes, he could do this!
Don't lose control now! This is your chance!
Slowly, Kim brought his own face closer to Felix's, centimeter by centimeter. Until their lips were almost touching eachother. And then he paused, his own heart beating wildly.
Part of him wondered what he was doing and another part of him simply said GO FOR IT! "I'd be scared if I were you. Because I'm a force to be reckoned with." Kim whispered to Felix and then released his tie and turned back around to face the stage again. Shit, could Felix hear how loud his heart was beating like this? Kim's cheeks were now turning a light pink shade. Fuck, what had he done?! If Felix tried to mess with him again...
Well, he wasn't sure he could keep his composure.

Cheering on Hufflepuff and @AngelFyre McCubbin
Morning, Match 3. It was starting!
He had gotten there in time to watch some of the last match which had his friend David Howard competing and now he was there to witness all of AngelFyre McCubbin’s first match. He knew she had wanted to join dueling and was putting in a lot of practice for accuracy and proper wand casting.
He was proud of her, and while a little apprehensive about the pairing of teams, he would remain optimistic and cheer her on until the end. He showed up in his Hufflepuff attire and a banner he had hung in his room. Hopefully he shined with house pride.
“You’ve got this, AngelFyre!” He shouted before the match began. He didn’t want to interrupt once the match began because incantations needed to be heard. Maybe someone could quickly dodge if they heard it early enough.
The first round of shots were fired and Hufflepuff actually faired out pretty well. “Come on, badgers!” He yelled out again, hoping to encourage both his girlfriend and her partner, Autumn. There was a cloud of fog and no longer could he see them and the other way around, but surely they could hear him.
Be kind to one another. (*iNPC is Miles Thatcher)

Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff
--- Date: 30/04/22 || Time: 10:21 ---
Despite being at Hogwarts for seven months, Sophia didn’t know if there was a rule about running in the corridors. She sure hoped not. She’d yet to get in trouble for it yet, so that was reassuring.
At the moment, she was running as fast as her short legs could take her. She found herself jealous of the growth spurt that had already hit Sage and Kim. They could probably run way faster.
Her problem was that she was running late. The duel wasn’t supposed to start until 10:30, but apparently they had a tendency to start a few minutes early, so she was frantically racing through the corridors, parchment and quill in hand.
She didn’t even need to be at this day of duels. It wasn’t like Ravenclaw would be duelling, after all, but, given that she was on the waitlist for her house’s duelling club, she’d taken it upon herself to watch every duel from every house, studying strategies and learning techniques to improve her own casting.
Thus, she was watching the Puffs and the Lions in their little bout. After all, when she officially joined the team, she may very well duel some of these very students. It would help to know their weaknesses.
She pushed the door open and rushed into the duelling club, noting that, yes, the duel had started, and, yes, that was an Incendio. She regretted not making it on time for the introductions. She didn’t know most of the duellists by name, so note taking would be difficult.
She scribbled a bit onto the parchment as she made her way to the spectator area.
She looked up in the direction she was walking and frowned. Kim was sitting there, looking extremely uncomfortable. Was the boy blushing? He was a pervert, but Sophia still liked him. He didn’t deserve whatever treatment had left him like that.Practice Extinguo
Standing beside Kim, leaning into his personal space, was the likely culprit. Another boy, far taller than Sophia, was staring at Kim with delinquent, suggestive eyes, and his face seemed to be just as red as Kim’s.
It was obvious what had happened.
The boy was the ‘Stalker’ she’d overheard Kim talking about! Kim was sitting here, watching the duel, when this Stalker had violated Kim in the same way Kim had violated her at the Ball. Only worse! Maybe with actual kissing! The idea of a person kissing her Kim filled her with an unfamiliar anger, and she didn’t like it.
Sophia felt her cheeks heating up as she dropped her parchment to the ground and stormed over to the taller boy.
“What on God’s green earth are you doing, you- you pervert!? L-leave my Kim alone!” she whispered heatedly, not wanting to disturb the duels. She made an attempt to shove him away, but given their size difference, it barely even jostled him. She didn’t let it bother her as she took a seat beside Kim and wrapped both arms possessively around him. She squeezed him tight and rested her head on his chest.
“Don’t worry,” she whispered, “I’ll save you.”
She glared at the Stalker briefly and asked Kim, “Wait, is this Stalker?”

If anyone were to be privileged enough to know Felix thoroughly, they would know that when engrossed in something deemed of great fascination to him, he was quite the opposite of his usual self. Now, Felix was a naturally cautious person. Careless in speech and attitude, but overly cautious when it came to anything else. Characteristically wary, swift, and vigilant, it was rare that people could pounce on him so easily, without him pulling out some sort of reflex. These habits were not birthed with him, but rather, were learnt during his childhood.
It was perhaps unfortunate that at this moment, molten gaze fixated on the duellers, his head in some unknown captivated space, Felix could barely hear the words of people around him. So when he was violently yanked from his headspace, it was no surprise that his reaction consisted of him gasping in shock, his body having no time to react and put up some defense mechanism. In fact, he blinked as he now stared, rather stupidly, at the face of squirrel boy, who had yanked him by his tie close enough to him that the older boy could feel Kim's warm breath fanning over his lips and nose. The tips of his ears flamed red, his eyes wide. Oh, his involuntary gasp of shock had been embarrassing. How the fuck had he let such a vulnerable sign of surprise slip from his usually cautious lips. How dare Kim do such a thing, catch him off-guard like that. Felix was supposed to be on his end of the spectrum, teasing Kim. Not the other way round! What had gotten into the boy? Why all of a sudden? Where had he gotten this courage from?
As Kim dropped his tie, Felix reacted, brain whirring into action as he realised he hadn’t even listened to a word the boy had said. Maybe it was because he was too distracted, Kim up close…well, he was a sight to see.
Felix barked out the first set of words that rose to his lips, which characteristically consisted of curses and insults.
“You absolute fucking moron Kim Sato!”
Felix vaguely registered that this was the first time he’d spoken the boy's name. He wondered how the boy would react. The exclamation sounded spiteful and panicked on his tongue as Felix darted away from Kim, almost tripping over several seats as he aimed to put as much distance between him and the boy. Why was his heart beating this fast? He put it down to his shock.
He hadn't missed the younger boy's blush, and the dilation of his pupils as he inched closer to Felix. What even? His gaze was still fixated on Kim. He was staring, a what-the-fuck-just-happened look in his eyes. His tie was still hanging loseley atop his sweater where Kim had tugged on it. Felix’s eyes darted down to his chest before flickering back to Kim. He was downright embarrassed at how Kim had caught him off-guard so easily. Felix wasn’t supposed to be a flustered blundering mess, no, no, no.
As if it could get any worse…
“L-leave my Kim alone!”
Felix whipped his head around. Who was that? He was already what could be meters away from the gryffindor boy. What in the hell. Hold on- had she just said ‘my’ Kim? What? Felix nearly spluttered in shock for what would have been the second time in his life. What? First Gem…now this girl. Was Kim planning on collecting the entire female nation? Who even was she? Felix didn't know her. He shot her the foulest, coldest look he could before-
“Shove off carrot-head, your darling Kim here just finished harassing me. Take him away with you.” But Felix didn’t really want her to take Kim away. In fact, he just wanted her to leave. He’d been at peace before she arrived. Well, not really, in fact he'd been the opposite but…
The girl wrapped her arms around Kim possesively and Felix wrinkled his nose. What did she see in him honestly? There was nothing special about the boy, he wasn’t attractive at all. Felix’s blush had calmed down by now, his thoughts now entirely captivated on the disgusting scene in front of him.
“Kim if you’re dating carrot head- can I have Gem?” The corners of Felix's mouth twitched as he surpassed a grin. “She’s way prettier than her." He pointed at the redhead accusingly.
