a confrontation over coffee and croissants
january 6, 2022. thursday. breakfast time.Ivy hadn't slept a wink. It was bad enough that she was already a light sleeper, but ever since Alison's death, she was hardly able to fall asleep and most importantly stay asleep. The bags under her eyes and paleness in her cheeks was nothing a little makeup couldn't fix, but the low energy and lack of focus that came with being tired all the time was most unhelpful and didn't come with as easy of a remedy. That was where coffee came in.
In previous years, Ivy had drunk coffee sparingly, saving it for the most hectic of school weeks. Welp, not anymore. With 2022 came the arrival of her new addiction: coffee. She still didn't like the taste very much, but it helped her stay awake during the day. Perhaps she shouldn't drink so much, considering the fact that she was having trouble with sleep. But today was the first day of classes, and she needed to ward off the tiredness ASAP. Walking down to the breakfast with Everly, she stifled a yawn and nodded at her cousin's energetic chatter without registering a single word. Thankfully, the younger girl didn't seem to notice, and flounced off to find her friends from other houses with a cheery goodbye. Ivy blinked at her retreating figure. Ok, so she was on her own now.
Whatever. It was just breakfast. It wasn't rocket science. She grabbed the nearest pot of coffee on the table and poured herself a mug full of it before sitting down, not even bothering to see who was across the table. "Morning," she muttered a greeting, taking a sip from her mug before burying her nose in a copy of the Daily Prophet. She was yet to realise that she had sat directly across from Anastasia Beckett.@anastasia beckett
