It was a cold, snowy morning. Spectators had gathered on the crest of a snowy hill overlooking the pre-defined course. There was a biting breeze and a light snowfall. It had been snowing the last few days, the total accumulation was mid-calf. Heavy boots and wooly socks a must, it was going to be a cold one and the diviners professed at the breakfast tables that there was going to be even more snow today.

Warm mittens, heavy coats and thick, sometimes fur-trimmed hats were donned by most. A few wore their house scarves for a bit of team pride, some had hand written banners to cheer their team on. The Hhouse elves were out and about with trays of hot cocoa, piles of marshmallows and a saccharine treat - today almond biscotti.

They would watch the teams make their way to the start line. This match promised excitement, drama and quite possibly blood.

Juniper raised her mitten-covered hands as she cheered once more. She was determined to be the first in the crowd. Broom racing! WOOHOO! Her ferret wore a ravenclaw scarf and a powder pink sweater which she had bought over the break. She held Poppy in her arms, more focused on keeping her pet warm than her. She was fine. Juniper had a snow coat over her outfit, but the zipper was open. On her face, she had blue and silver streaks for her house. She banged on the side of the stands. "GO ARI, GO CLAIR- CLAIR, GO LINNNNN!" She yelled at the top of her lungs. Then, laughing, she yelled to her friends "I'M YOUR BIGGEST FAAANSSS!" If yelling that made her laugh, certainly it made her friends laugh. And of course, her bestie. She KNEW it would make Lin laugh. " LOOKING GOOOD LINN!!!" She teased to her friend.

She found the perfect seat, and accepted hot cocoa from a house-elf, with extra marshmallows. "Thank you very much. " The hot cocoa reminded her of Draven, and instantly her mind drifted to his grey eyes, perfect features... but no. Now now. She had to focus on cheering her friends on. She was going to be the loudest in the crowd, she just knew it. And Poppy even had team spirit, with her little Ravenclaw scarf.

As the muggle Frank Sinatra would say, the weather outside was frightful. Snow accumulation had reached a couple of feet all the while snow still danced to ground from the grey sky. If Jack Frost had anything to do with the wind then he was indeed nipping at his nose. Despite the conditions a race would still be held and that brought a crowd to the hill side this Sunday morning.

The snow crunched beneath Olivers black snow boots as he made his way up the hill. An oversized leather jacket did it’s best to keep the young badger warm, but it was really an oversized mug of hot coco that did the trick. The mug warmed his bare hands, and with just a sip the warmth flooded his body from the inside. He made a mental note of where all the nearby House Elves were so he could keep a constant flow of hot chocolate throughout the match.

As Ravenclaw took the pitch a self-proclaimed biggest fan cheered. Oliver wanted to see the players race onto the pitch, but this fan had just pulled his attention. Is that a ferret…in a sweater? He thought to himself slightly amused by this. That wasn’t something you seen everyday for sure. But neither was broom racing, at least not for him and thus is attention returned to the pitch just as his house took the pitch.

Dawning their team colors with pride, the badger took the pitch one by one. He didn’t cheer verbally, but he put down his mug long enough to clap for his fellow housemates. The anticipation was building in the atmosphere for the race to start.

Fear. That was the only thing Aurora felt about the whole situation. A bunch of first years surrounded by the seniors was like asking for a bloodbath to happen. The only thing that raced here was her blood, not in a good thrill type of way. More like the anxiety of failing to be the leader. Perhaps this was how her captains felt during the terrible forty points quidditch match and she didn’t like it, not even a little bit. After possibly damaging her vocal cord for that Gryffindor boy, Nicholas, there was no doubt she had energy left for another day of screaming and jumping like a cheerleader she was. But the memory of a random quote from somewhere she couldn’t quite remember flooding her mind, ‘one day, I’m gonna make the onions cry’. No, that doesn’t sound right. ‘A leader must inspire or the team will expire’. Yes, that one. And that was what exactly the girl would do. She might be still a second string seeker by status but she was a broom racer by heart, and a captain for god sake. Who would’ve thought? Someone like Aurora Ranvier, the short stature girl whose main weapon was a pepper spray, could be a captain of a team. It was still surreal even for her. Both her mother and step dad thought it was an April fool joke or something but it wasn’t even April already and it discouraged her for a moment. But for now, let’s put her ability to a test. They had practised a lot, and if the situation forbids them to take the victory, there will always be another time. At the end of the day, it is birds that are destined to fly. Putting her worry aside, she had to be there for the team and give them as much energy as she put for Nicholas. Or maybe more.

His body ached and he wanted nothing more than to still be in bed. Regardless of how a race went, be it win or lose, it seemed that clinging to a hunk of wood flying through the air and smashing into obstacles did a number on one’s body. Despite magical healing, Nicholas knew that parts of his body would likely ache for days to come, phantom pain if nothing else. Still, he made sure to crawl out of bed, away from the hearthfire of his dormitory, and toward the grounds once more. The race may not have involved Gryffindor, but it did involve the two other rival houses. Badgers and eagles would dart through the skies, their sights set on victory. Although, based upon the looks of at least a few of the older students garbed in yellow, he supposed bloodshed would also be on the menu.

Tea filled his thermos, the bitter earl gray tingling his throat as he downed mouthful after mouthful on his walk toward the stands, the liquid serving as one of his few respites against the cold. That and the wool lined denim jacket he wore. It was hardly adequate protection against the cold, but it was the only thing he owned in the colour of the house of Rowena Ravenclaw. The blood stain that stubbornly refused to leave the denim be damned, he was at least obligated to repay Aurora’s cheering in kind. That was all, reciprocity, nothing at all to do with any feelings that may bubble in his core at any given moment. Regardless of his denial, his face turned bright red once more in memory of the sign that she had flashed.

She may not have been a racer, but she was the captain of the team, and without their sides competing against each other it was entirely proper to come and support her. Not that they were dating, he would continue to deny such an accusation, they were friends, kind of, who went on a date, and occasionally there were cheek kisses or sullen looks or blushes. Nothing romantic at all.

He was halfway through a gulp of tea when the sound of Aurora’s voice pierced his ears, her shrill shriek unmistakable, much like the bird of prey that served as her house’s sigil.

He came up beside her as silently as he could, daring not to break her concentration from her shouting. A few other students had already arrived, but Nicholas was pleasantly surprised to find himself amongst the first.

Still, his intention was clear, come up beside the girl without her noticing, then immediately shock her with a call of his own.

“Kill ‘em dead, Ravenclaw!”

The shout was followed by a sheepish glance to Jack and Serena, the two members of the team whom he’d had more than a passing conversation with. Although, he was certain that the older students would understand the hustle of supporting his girlfriend and a team of ickle firsties.

Lily couldn't quite believe she'd managed to wake up before noon on a Sunday, but there she was. After going to the Astronomy Tower for the Epiphany activity a few days earlier, she felt a lot better and she wouldn't have missed the broom race for the world! She had never been to a broom race before and she needed to go and support her house! So she had put on her winter coat, her blue and silver hat and scarf and her woollen gloves, and she'd gone out under the light snowfall of this January morning.

She was early, both teams were making their way to the start line and a few students were already there. She was quite amazed at the view: the snow-covered Hogwarts grounds looked like something out of a fairy tale. The cold was bearable, but she didn't refuse the hot chocolate that a House Elf offered her with some biscuits. A Ravenclaw girl was screaming the name of the racers at the top of her lungs. Lily realised she only knew one of the Ravenclaw racers: a girl named Clair she'd bumped into several times. Nevermind, she just joined the girl by cheering: "Go Ravenclaw! Let's win this!" She was excited to see what was going to happen.

It was the first time since Haley had been to Hogwarts to watch a competition other than Quidditch, and what's more, it wasn't even her own house she would be cheering for today. Wrapped up thickly, Haley made her way to the outdoor club area to watch the Broom Race between Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. It was Simon's first race and while only a short time ago she had been happy for him that he had made the team, time had passed so quickly and today would be the first time she would see him in action.

Burying her hands in her jacket, she walked with quick steps through the cold winter air. She was definitely a summer girl, even though the first snow was always special, the moment always came quickly when she preferred to watch the beautiful snowy landscape from the inside bette from the fireplace. The cold wind blew through her long red curly hair and when she arrived on the crest of a snowy hill, the first ones had already arrived to watch the spectacle as well. Haley found a spot where she had a good view and looked at the start line while the snow continued to slowly turn her red hair white.

Haley wore a Hufflepuff scarf to express her support and it was probably the first time she had worn the colours of a house other than her own. As she waited for the two teams to arrive, she caught sight of the house elves and a wide smile formed on her face. The rescue came at just the right moment and gratefully she got herself a hot chocolate to warm herself up a little. She gleefully held the warm mug with her hands and carefully took a sip of the sweet drink.

It wasn't long before the teams went to the starting line and excitedly she looked out for none other than Simon Ezra Kincaid. She quickly glanced over the individual racers until she found her target and never took her eyes off it. Full of pride, the redhead stood there and had already forgotten the cold she had felt a moment ago. As the racers gathered at the line, she took a deep breath and cheered for Simon. "GO SIMOOOOON!"

AngelFyre was not much of a spectator. If anything, she had always preferred being in the thick of the action rather than sitting passively on the sidelines. But today? Well today spectating seemed like the most natural thing in the world for her to do. Today she would deviate from her normal routine that would have otherwise had her heading to the Library where she could study in peace and quiet. In addition to her normal workload, she had taken on an additional personal project. She fancied herself, lately, as the female equivalent of Sherlock Holmes as she scoured the shelves for the leather covered tomes that could give her the answers she sought. Her persistence was paying off and she had begun to zero in on those answers....some of them anyway.

But now, walking nowhere near to the Library, AngelFyre could hear the snow crunching under her snow boots as she was happily anticipating the chance to be able to watch him openly and unguarded. It was perfect really. She would not have to worry out here that anyone would think twice about her interest in supporting her Hufflepuff team. What they could not know is that for AngelFyre, Simon was the entirety of the broom racing team.

She was enjoying the crispness in the air and stopped in her tracks, momentarily, to tilt her head to the sky while sticking out her tongue to catch a few snowflakes. She was snapped from the momentary reverie when she heard fans cheering and yelling already, so she hurried along to get a good seat. She was so focused at this point that she even bypassed one of the house elves and his tray of hot chocolate. She found a seat and scanned the crowd to see if her Ravenclaw acquaintance, Phoenix Adair, was anywhere in sight. Nope. Not yet.

Just then, the crowd really started clapping and cheering as the racers started making their way to the starting line. AngelFyre saw Serena enter first for team Hufflepuff, and others, from both teams followed. And then he was there. Her breath caught in her throat at the sight of him, but then, all of a sudden, a red headed girl a couple of rows in front of AngelFyre yelled "GO SIMOOOOON". That was nothing out of the ordinary for a member of a cheering crowd, really, but what felt like a gutpunch to her soul was seeing Simon scan the crowd and stop when he saw that same red head. He flashed that devastating smile of his and gave her a thumb's up.

AngelFyre sat there for a minute, suddenly oblivious to everything and everyone around her, feeling rather ridiculous. It had just never occurred to her that he had a girlfriend. Funny twist, this. She decided now that she really did need a cup of hot chocolate as all heat seemed to have drained from her body.

She had come to be a spectator today. And she would be. But the object of her focus would not be flying his broom. No, her focus now had long, red hair and would be sitting in the crowd.

[font=Times new roman] This was the first broom race of the year, it was a relatively new thing but Del knew she had to come and watch. Of course, her own house was playing, but not only that, her house were playing against Hufflepuff, one of the members of the Hufflepuff team was her friend Serena. The team was also captained by Ami Procoppio, Delilah had never overly spoken to Ami but their paths had crossed a fair few times.

Upon getting to the spectator area, she heard shouting, coming from a variety of people, but they definitely were familiar ravens. From a distance she spotted Aurora, a fellow writer on the headliner. Jogging up to her she stood next to her. "Hey! How are you?" She asked, looking towards the soon to begin race. This was going to be exciting.

"You're the captain of our team, aren't you?" Del rubbed her hands together with her jumpers sleeves pulled over them, trying to warm up her fingers a little bit. She couldn't help but wonder why Aurora was over here with them instead of over with the team but she wasn't going to question it.

Things to do with brooms always stressed Del out, but hopefully this would be alright, and hopefully they would bring home a win!

It was absolutely freezing out on the grounds of Hogwarts. Lizzy was wearing only a jacket and a Gryffindor scarf for extra warmth, the scarf quite out of place at a Ravenclaw vs. Hufflepuff match. She had woken up a bit late and got ready in a hurry. She did not want to miss the broom racing match, for Simon was one of the Hufflepuff racers. Lizzy had wanted to come out and cheer him on for his first match.

House elves were roaming the stands to and fro, giving out hot chocolate to the cold students. Lizzy accepted a cup gratefully, sipping it while looking for a place to watch the game. The wind nipped at her, blowing her short hair around wildly. As she spotted Simon near the starting point, she took a minute to cheer him on. "Go Simon! You got this!" She smiled encouragingly at him from the stands.

Shouts supporting both teams could be heard, but Lizzy heard more supporting Ravenclaw than Hufflepuff. One girl with red hair shouted, "GO SIMOOOOON!" It seemed they had both come to cheer on Simon. Come to think of it, she had seen the other girl before. She was a year older than Lizzy, but a Gryffindor. Lizzy made her way over to the girl with a friendly smile. "It seems we're rather outmatched here," she commented on the number of Ravenclaw supporters. "I'm Lizzy Solace," she introduced herself.
