Upon the quidditch pitch, a grand tent had been erected, transforming the sports field into something altogether different. Where usually stood an open-air arena dedicated to the pursuit of near-gladiatorial combat, there existed an enormous canvas hall. Hall being the correct word, for the use of charms and enchantment had turned the otherwise usual tent into a veritable building, albeit one that still allowed the wind chill of the evening to flutter in through its opened sides.

The interior of the tent is awash with juxtaposition and impossibility, both warm yet cool, inviting yet foreboding, dark yet light. The ceiling of the tent is near black, the lack of stars serving as the only differentiation that it may hold to the darkened skies of late autumn. Not that many students would be able to view where the canvas ended, for enchanted mist and nimbuses float lazily above their eye level, the formless clouds moving across the ceiling with a sort of slow abandon, only the most piercing gazes able to see through their veil to the empty darkness above. Yet, the tent is not fully awash with darkness and clouds, for faelights twinkle and roam, spreading cold illumination to every corner of the room. As if will-o-wisps have been captured and tamed, the small lights move through the ball with life of their own, a veritable herd of stars in miniature.
Whilst the perfectly maintained and tamed grass of the pitch forms most of the floor of the ballroom, at the centre of the tent a wooden platform has been erected. Made out of polished walnut, the moniker of platform may not be entirely apt, for it lays flush with the grass that surrounds it, providing a seamless transition from one texture to the other.
Image posted by the member
Circling the outer edges of the ball are a number of walnut tables and chairs, of the kind that are better suited to sit down dinners in grand halls than sat atop grass. Whilst the tables may not be set for the kind of dinner function for which they were made, nor the sort that they are used to, they are able to serve as small bastions of respite for those looking to escape from the dance floor or to sit with an assortment of food. For along the tent’s outer edges are even larger serving tables, to which food and drink are placed in bountiful servings. Seasonal vegetables serve as the mainstay of many of the dishes, their warmth and heart assisting the more fragile students in warding off the chill that comes with the season and risk of onset rain.
Image posted by the member
Finally, should one need to adjust their makeup or fix their hair, a pair of wooden doors stand by the entrance, immaculate handwriting denoting one as for 'ladies' and the other as for 'gents'. Truly magic was a wonderful thing, for the enchantments had created immaculate bathrooms out of seemingly thin air. Entirely classy and not at all what one may expect from a ball hosted under an erected tent.

So, would you dare to try? Perhaps you want to prove to your annoying classmate that you were simply not meant to be. Perhaps you want to gain reassurance that your date to the Ball would be more than a one-evening escapade… Either way, many hearts were bound to rejoice while others could break on this autumn night.

All these muds are making me eel (Grounds)
Should a student so wish, then they can challenge themselves, or their friends, to venture forth into the mud. A true test of skill, both in their ability to discern the eels and to actually grab the slimy fish, was set before them. The question would simply be who would be able to grab the writhing creatures and deposit them neatly in the barrels.

Darling, you look radishing (Grounds)
Small little plots of ready to harvest crops have been planted in even rows, separated from one another by tracts of dirt, allowing for students to wander through the rows without fear of trodding over the vegetables.

Frog Choir Performance
Something was brewing backstage. A sound disrupted the festivities: the croaking of amphibians. Though this may not seem entirely out of place on any Hogwarts night, it came in mass, swelling with the ribbits of excited frogs and toads before swiftly dying down. A sudden cloud of Nebulus spilled out of the curtains, swallowing the stage. It was followed by a sight both strange and ominous: seven hooded figures emerged from its midst, black robes sweeping. Each held an ornate cushion, and atop it, an amphibian. A boiling cauldron levitated in their midst and belched fog while they went. Before anyone might fear they were being invaded by toad-wielding hags or some other such threat, Nurse Brumby positioned himself before the stage with wand in hand, poised as a conductor. The cauldron drifted down, the robed folk formed a half-circle around it, the critters croaked a steady rhythm, then the prowling "cultists" raised their hooded heads in unison. Pericles Dralt, Santario Martin, Serena Bowen, Rose Moon, Starlee Kennedy, Henry Knight, and Koko Riddle began to sing. Their little partners perched on pillows croaked, hissed, clicked and ribbited, belching sounds which emulated bass, drums, and percussions.

[all] Boys and girls of every age, wouldn't you like to see something strange?
Come with us and you will see, this, our Hogwarts Halloween
This is Halloween, this is Halloween,
Pumpkins scream in the dead of night!
This is Halloween, everybody make a scene
Trick or treat 'til the neighbors gonna die of fright
It's our school, everybody scream
In this Hogwarts Halloween

[Henry] I am the one hiding under your bed
Teeth ground sharp and eyes glowing red

[Serena] I am the one hiding under your stairs
Fingers like snakes and spiders in my hair

[all] This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
In this school we call home
Everyone hail to the pumpkin song

[Starlee] In this school, don't we love it now?
Everybody's waiting for the next surprise

[all] Round that corner, man hiding in the trash can
Something's waiting now to pounce, and how you'll
Scream! This is Halloween
Red 'n' black, and slimy green
Aren't you scared?
Well, that's just fine
Say it once, say it twice
Take a chance and roll the dice
Ride with the moon in the dead of night
Everybody scream, everybody scream
In our town of Halloween!

[Pericles] I am the clown with the tear-away face
Here in a flash and gone without a trace

[Rose] I am the "who" when you call, "Who's there?"
I am the wind blowing through your hair

[Santario] I am the shadow on the moon at night
Filling your dreams to the brim with fright

[all] This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
Tender lumplings everywhere
Life's no fun without a good scare
That's our job, but we're not mean
In our Hogwarts Halloween
In this school
Don't we love it now?
Everyone's waiting for the next surprise

Skeleton Jack might catch you in the back
And scream like a banshee
Make you jump out of your skin!
This is Halloween, everybody scream
Won't you please make way for a very special guy
[ Koko casts Tarantallegra on a skeleton inside the foggy cauldron ]
Our man Jack is King of the Pumpkin patch
Everyone hail to the Pumpkin King now
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
In this town we call home

When Koko cast Tarantallegra into the cauldron, a [fake] skeleton wearing a grinning pumpkin head rose from its foggy depths. It began to dance enthusiastically as the robed choir sang their spooky song, swinging its limbs and rattling its bones.

At long last, the day arrived on which the Frog Choir would perform for an audience. Rehearsals had led to this day, involving stage planning and choreography alongside the lines themselves. With confidence the choir was up to the task, Pericles would meet with a number of Handlers, who helped transport bins of toads and frogs from greenhouse to backstage. There the group would gather, welcomed with a perspiring pitcher of water and a steaming kettle of tea, enabling all to pick their throat soother of choice. A toast was raised- to the first show!- and cups tilted back. Pericles, however, did not drink what was offered. Instead, he imbibed in a funny orange potion. Its purpose would become clear in little time: his head turned an alarming shade of apricot before being replaced, entirely, with a grinning jack-o-lantern.

Songs had been gathered then voted upon. The two which won out had come from popular muggle Halloween movies, the likes of which he'd never seen, but the young wizard could appreciate a fun tune when he heard it. Of course, they had put a real magical spin on things. The director selected his singing partner, Prospero, from the pack. The Sonoran green toad was perched atop a rich orange pillow with silvery tassel. Not to be left out from the festivities, he wore a very tiny top hat. Pompion potion consumed, an ominous black hood donned, and toad acquired on a cozy cushion, he was ready to perform. Peri turned to the others, gathering in close with a hushed "Ready to show Hogwarts what we've been working on?" The square-toothed grin of his jack-o-lantern head even animated as he spoke, its eerie hollow eyes seeming to glow with a dim light of excitement. To the nurse who would conduct them, "Nurse Brumby?" and to Santario, who would provide them a theatric entrance "San?" then, to those who would join them in the later half, "Right, see you at the second song!"As soon as all were at the ready, Pericles drew an aspen wand from his sleeve, incanting Wingardium Leviosa at a plain black cauldron, which was presently belching dry ice (though something else was crumpled inside- that fake skeleton, sentanced to dance). It was levitated out onto the stage where the group emerged eerily from the fog.

Singing was an elation all its own. The pumpkin lad projected from his diaphragm, notes controlled albeit expressive, far brighter than his usual mellow murmur. His alto came clear and light when he sang his solo line "I am the clown with the tear-away face,", only to plummet into something rich and full at the transition to "here in a flash and gone without a trace!" Sitting on the pillow he held, Prospero the toad croaked along, adding a complimentary bass while bobbing his head to the beat. Clearly the choir was up to a bit of fun, a lot of love for song, and hopefully, a performance which bestowed a sense of Halloween spirit upon all who watched.

Juniper fidgeted with a flower on her dress. She had to change her plans last minute since she didn't want to match with Cody Stevenson. She left him to wear a sunflower outfit all by himself, and instead owled her mom begging for a dress that wasn't too fancy. She didn't want a giant ball gown. Juniper wasn't a fancy girl, nor did she enjoy long gowns that were easy to trip on. But giving her a short dress would seem long on her anyway. Her mom sent her back something very elegant (compared to what Juni usually wears) and Juni knew she had to wear it. It was a pale yellow color and it didn't look too bad.

When Juniper slid it on over her head she had to turn her head to look at different angles. It wasn't what she originally wanted, but there was no way she was matching with the boy who set her skirt and leg on fire. No way in heck. She threw away the paper sunflower that Cody made her, "It clashes with my photo wall, anyway." She stated calmly. She trashed the sunflower headband she planned to wear and kept her hair down. "Sunflowers attract bees anyway." She claimed.

She opened her trunk and reached to pull out the white flats her mom sent with the dress, but at the end pulled out her new white doc martens. Dancing in fancy shoes aways hurt her feet, and she dismissed the fact that her 'date' might not appreciate the fact that she wasn't wearing a full on gown and heels. He even said he would be wearing a crown.

Juniper had to stop at the greenhouse first to help carry the frogs to the singers. "You froggos ready? You'll do amazing!" She beamed, she really. She was doing what she loved, helping with the frogs right now. She knew she wasn't going to be singing or anything, but she felt what she did, didn't need any credit. She loved it anyway. With the help of the other handlers, things were easier.

Next was to help with the robes. The robes were a great touch, and Juniper wanted to congratulate whoever thought of them. She usually saw people wearing robes like these during trick-or-treating on Halloween, which she guessed was the point.

She smiled at anyone who looked at her, saying "You guys are gonna be super duper amazing!!" Followed by eager thumbs up. She was excited to hear their performance once more, but for real. Not just a practice, this was the real deal. And it was amazing!

Pericles raised a toast and drank an orange drink, which Juniper raised an eyebrow until she saw what it did. She gasped, then giggled behind her hands. Holy JELLY BEAN! She couldn't help but stare. He looks just like that pumpkin head guy from the stories! She wanted to tell him that was super cool but she was sure he had heard that already. Since the performance was soon to start, she made her way backstage, her wand in her hand. She was still excited to be up on the stage, even if she wasn't singing.

The day of the fall ball had come, and things had changed drastically for Santario. She was no longer the person she once was, but at least she had managed to put herself together for the ball properly. Not by her own choice, though. She had been sitting on her bed holding her hairbrush, trying to force herself to brush her hair, and one of the other girls decided she was nervous and graciously brushed the knots out of her hair. Her fingernails, however, would remain uncleaned, still looking as if she had been digging in the dirt and not cleaning under them afterward.

She had gotten dressed in the gifted attire and slid her wand into the pocket she had sewn into it. She knew that if Vladimir had gained knowledge about what had happened that he would kill her. It would be better this way, right? She wouldn’t be able to hurt him, Thomas, or Percival ever again. They would mourn her, but this could be a blessing in disguise. San knew she would try to stop him, she would fight him with everything she had if he tried, and there was nothing she could do about that… But it would be for the better if he succeeded.

Pericles pulled her from her thoughts as they prepared to go on stage with a toast. She would tip back her drink and smile with the rest of them. She would hold her pillow with Mr. Toadsworth on it, a deep bass cane toad that she usually showed affection for, but she couldn’t help but see him as a snack right now. He wore a little crown on his head, ready for adoring audiences. As Pericles nodded at her, she drew her wand and whispered, “Nebulus”. A fog filled their entrance, and she followed suit.

As the performance started, everything melted away for her. Her mind was momentarily clear as she sang with her peers forgetting everything that plagued her. Santario’s French-accented mezzo-soprano voice cut through on her part dropped low in an almost sultry tone. “I am the shadow on the moon at night” Before changing into a venomous hiss. “Filling your dreams to the brim with fright!” How fitting. She would fall back in line and finish off the first song with her peers.

Loki's Costume
The fall ball has arrived. While others were excited for the night to spend with friends a few days before Halloween, Henry was not. The teen wasn't looking forward to the ball and dreading going even if it was only going to be for the frog choir performance.

Henry spend the day in rehearsals with the rest of the group in their performance for that night, while he did enjoy singing and loved the choir. The third year joined the performance so he could see which friends of his were attending the ball and if they would be safe since after the performance he would be leaving to spend the rest of the night with his girlfriend.

Loki came along to since the feline left the frogs alone, wearing a loki costume that he bothered his owner with until he could wear it that nibig. The orange feline spent the day going around to each singer and rubbing aginest their legs, softly meowing at them to ease their nerves about that night.

When night draw near and darkness starting setting in around them, Henry took a spot near Rose and offered a smile as he listened to the ravenclaw boy's words.

Taking a cup of water and toasting with the others to Pericles words of encouragement and to their performance ahead.

"Best of luck everyone, " Henry spoke to the group that would be performing the first song as he moved into his place behind Rose around the cauldron that Pericles levitated while Santario cast the fog charm for their entrance and the nurse who was acting ad their conducter for the evening got into his place. Henry went over and picked up Ulysses, placing him on a orange pillow that he would.

The third year would find his place behind Rose as the teen leaned close to her and whispered" you got this, just remember to breath and relax Artemis," offering her a soft smile before he spotted Starlee and playfully smiled as he spoke" are you going to shine like a star, Star?" Smiling at the girl before turning back, blue eyes directed forward as he walked onto the stage with the group.

The teen didn't quite know where the songs came from and had to ask Rose about them, which he reminded himself that during the next holiday he will try to find and watch the muggle movies the two songs come from.

Rasing his head with the others as he saw Loki walk along the party goers and sat next to Juniper.

The teen didn't have another moment to say anything as the song started and he sang with the others, controlling his voice and breath so it remain close to the level that the rest were singing at.

He had the first solo in the song and was a little nervous about it as he felt his anxiety looming over him but he kept this hidden away. The teen looked out at the audience, his voice is a high treble and heavily tangled with his british accent as he sang " I am the one hiding under your bed," then in a slightly lower voice, " teeth ground sharp and eye glowing red," holding the last note for a few seconds louder a before falling silent and letting the fifth year take her solo.

He was keeping his word and then saying farewell. He has asked her because he had come to believe that she wanted her. He was one of the first to arrive in the ballroom proper, in time for the frog choir performance. He had to at the very least say good-bye, even if he preferred to simply walk away. He was not wanted, Percival was. He had no plan to try to convince her otherwise, he had his pride and in the end at best he would convince her to lie.

Just a hand-off, gift her to the person she preferred then walk away. He lacked the will, the time and the want to fight this battle. So he stood there and he waited, he would listen to the sing and he would let the minutes pass, the ballroom fill and he would take these last few minutes to consider how he would address his quarry.

The priority would be Erin Ryan. They needed to kill ther on this day without fail. He was prepared to kill her. It was one of those duties he did not particularly relish, he was uncertain how he would explain it and he was not even sure he was capable of he had nothing really left to lose less his life. He had to at the very least try.

Then it would be Victor Moore. He did not know how many times he would come back, how many times he would be punished for his selfishness and how cruel his makers were. It did not matter, the would end them all. It was his burden, his curse and his legacy to bear.

Ah how the twinkling fairy lights that had been strung above the tent reminded Orion of his teenage years. Beauxbatons always knew how to throw a grand party, they were French, after all, so it was to be expected. The change of scenery was appreciated and he hoped Mardi would be able to locate him within the tent.

Santario stood among the choir, the spitting image of her mother. Between that and the fairy lights, Rion could have sworn he had traveled back in time if it were not for the way that his bones ached. Yes, he was well into his thirties and his time spent as an Auror and hit-wizard had worn his body down. It was a miracle the man was standing. The only sign of his weakness would be the dark circles he wore beneath his eyes, the kind that told tales of the many sleepless nights he had spent inspecting the interesting brick work on the ceiling above his head.

At least Santario was looking a bit healthier in comparison to the last time he had saw her. He had worried about the girl's mental health, but it was, quite frankly, expected after everything she had been through. The girl was a pillar of mental strength as it was, and it was something Orion himself admired. Still, he hoped she knew his office door was always open should she need an ear. If the Slytherin were to glance his way, she would notice the proud smile on his face as he watched her.

Ball again. Ugh. Rose actually hadn't wanted to come to this one. The last Blossom Ball, and the Fall Ball before that, had sucked out all of her ball tolerance. She hadn't wanted to come to this one, but the Frog Choir was going to be preforming at the ball. She was not going to miss it, especially because she had a solo and she really liked the songs. They were counting on her, and she was not going to let everyone down. Rose was in the bathroom, looking at her reflection. She looked put together enough, right?

Rose sighed, wondering if she actually did want to go, after all. No, she didn't. But she had to, because the rest of the Frog Choir was counting on her. She just had to suck it up and pretend that everything was okay. Pretend she was confident and not nervous. Pretend, pretend, pretend.

She was able to come to the Fall Ball early because she was a performer, and chatted with the other Frog Choir members quietly while they waited for their performance time to come. Rose was trying to distract herself. She went and picked up Squirt, her partner frog, and placed him on his cushion. "You're so fancy, Squirt," she whispered, smiling. He croaked at her, in a way that almost sounded like a "thank you." Or maybe he was just croaking for the sake of croaking. She got her hooded cloak on, adjusting her hood over her face so that she could see, but that her face was shadowed eerily, like she had intended it to be. She wanted to look spooky.

Henry came up to her and encouraged her. She smiled at him. "We've got this," she replied, reassuring him in turn.

Then the performance started. Rose sang out, helping out her choir. The sound was amazing. Rose's stomach twisted as her solo approached. It was quite short, and about in the middle of the song, but still. A solo. everybody would hear her voice out of the crowd. What if she ruined it? What if she messed it up? What if she just didn't do it? Everybody would now know how bad her voice was...

Rose lifted her chin, singing her part, just the way she had practiced it.

"I am the 'who' when you call, 'Who's there?'
I am the wind blowing through your hair..."

That wasn't so bad, was it? Squirt croaked loudly to end their solo, and Santario went up next, with her own solo.

Rose relaxed, and along with the rest of the choir, finished out the song.

Open for further interaction (currently for adults only)

Leaving the Festival, Nigel entered the tent into some kind of hall. He had to say he admired whoever had worked on setting this up, covering the entire Quidditch pitch with a giant canvas tent and transforming it into more like an indoor reception hall rather than a garden party area.

There was also a stage, and the Hogwarts students who were member of the Frog Choir performing (he recognised some of them from class), lead by Kels Brumby. Nigel's eyes grew gentler as they caught sight of the school nurse. The two had had quite a pleasant conversation roughly a month ago, or at least Nigel considered it pleasant.

He liked Kels, but to be honest, could not recognise his own feelings in regards to what degree he liked the blond. He enjoyed talking with the Englishman, and despite his initial (rather cruel) thoughts regarding his physical looks, these days Nigel realised that he had changed his mind and considered Kels quite good-looking. Moreover, it was not unusual he caught himself wondering about the nurse.

But there was something - someone else - that was still popping up once in a while, and this confused Nigel in deciding whether or not he could be a good-enough partner for Kels. What if he still thought about John sometimes? Does it mean he was still loyal to that former boyfriend of his, still care about him very much? Does it mean that if he dated Kels, it would be meaningless like some people who dated just because they did not want to be alone?

Nigel shook his head. Maybe he just needed more time to know Kels and recognise his own feelings. Maybe he could understand the overall situation better after he understood its bits and pieces more.

For tonight, perhaps it would be better - and nicer - for him to just enjoy the evening without much thought about the future.

The American relaxed. He began to enjoy his presence at the Ball, even though the event had just started and he had only entered. But already he managed a genuine smile, which grew even friendlier when he spotted a rather familiar face: Orion Lécuyer. Professor Lécuyer was the teacher for Defence Against the Dark Arts, and a new staff at Hogwarts as well. He was hired not long after Nigel, but the two had not talked much. He seemed like an outgoing type, though. Probably he could start a conversation with Nigel, if only he could see him. In hopes of this, the Astronomy professor gave him a slight wave and a friendly smile.

Let There Be Light
