Alexx stood inconspicuously in the great hall, only a few feet away from a stand stacked with the latest edition of the Hogwarts Headliner. After the T. Ruth incident, Alexx knew one thing to be true: people were more interested in the paper than ever, and now, she was just dying to know their take on the articles her team worked hard to produce each month.
The front page made no mistake to anyone walking by... It was about T. Ruth themselves, whoever they were. Alexx knew this was going to be a shit show, because the last issue was so controversial. Even though it resulted in the wreckage of her beloved office, she nevertheless couldn't wait for another controversy to start. And where better to start it than the place where it all began?
So, as she waited for visitors, she made sure to make herself look as unsuspecting as ever. Sunglasses over her eyes, a hat on her head, and a newspaper in front of her face. Absolutely no one would ever suspect a thing if they walked by, surely.
Not to mention, she herself was being mentioned in this issue. A cheat. Alexx was a cheat. She knew damn well that was true, too, but that article may find itself being controversial to any Quidditch fan. Call her vain if you must, but Alexx couldn't wait to hear the takes her peers had about her.
chill babe. we're all bad in someone's story.

Juniper unfolded a slightly crinkled paper in her hand. A low conversation took place around her, like some people were trying to hide their opinions on a matter to everyone but their friends. But there was no point in pretending that they weren't talking about the same thing. Or at least most of them were. The Hogwarts Headliner. Judging by the frowns at a certain page, the conversation was about someone who goes by T.Ruth. From what Juni's heard, she/he was someone who lashed out at dhampirs in an article last year, causing a ton of chaos. Like riots in the halls. However, as she popped a cockroach cluster into her mouth, her worries were all over the place.
"Okay, but it's not ANYONES place to just CALL PEOPLE out like that!!! This T.Ruth person probably looks like a troll and hides it by acting out against non-humans since people think she is one or something! What a butt-hole!" She scoffed, clearly disgusted. Continuing reading, she could hear the grumbles of students around her.
"Look at this! 'was T.Ruth righ-' No! Why would anyone even think that? Bro! Okay, T.Ruth tell me this. What if we're I trouble and a "vicious" non-human is the one who saves us? PArt-giants can use their strength for good. Dhampirs can protect people!" She knew she was talking to no one except a mysterious author. But the fact that they kicked dirt on non-humans was infuriating. "Okay but like she doesn't even mention part-goblins. Does she think they're weak or harmless?" Juni didn't know if she should be offended or not.
Finally turning the page, she read the article with a few chuckles. However, another page caught her attention. Now, Juni's loved quidditch since she found out about it. She loved reading about it too. But a CHEATING CHASER?! "W-w-what?" She sputtered. "If she's cheating kick her off! who who is this? Alexx? Ugh, seriously? They literally have an article about this girl cheating. Clearly she's not a good cheater if it's so obvious though."

As per usual, would make her way towards the great hall for another meal. It was clockwork at school. Rather uneventful for Aurelia these days and she wouldn't really mind the relative peace. Upon entering the great hall, the stack of newspapers would capture her attention. Whether it was fate's call that Aurelia was just dressed as her normal self rather than her duplicitous bookish identity Leia, only the next few interactions could tell. Leia was only created because of her own terrible reputation indirectly caused by the Headliner's notorious T.ruth. So it was no surprise that the name on the main page would bring a scowl to her lips.
Nevertheless, she would grab a copy. "Old news don't you think?" she would mutter in spite under her breath to no one really. About 1/5th of the school's population, the first year, would not have an idea of what lead up to the creation of the whole series of articles. On the other hand, the other half would likely still think of her as an apathetic blood-baiter. Her aura would send waves of unease towards anyone in the close vicinity more prominent than usual (terrible presence), reflecting her own mood at present.
Of course, Aurelia knew the headliner's recent antics. Stir the pot. Let's just hope, by a chance, a certain dhampir didn't go making another scene. But one didn't have to wait for the entrance of the fifth year Hufflepuff as a Ravenclaw soon took it upon herself to ver loudly voice her opinions. It wasn't too much like Aurelia to intervene, but after what she heard happened to Howard when he voiced his own, she knew that the little redhead first year would never get anything across.
Her hand would grasp firmly onto the shorter girl's bicep, commanding her attention. "You'd achieve nothing more than unwanted attention and embarrassment. The controversy is very much intentional, T.ruth knows what they are writing about and at this moment, you are giving them what they want. Sit down or it may go down south like it did last year, firstie." What was the saying? Listen to your elders.

Dear Eve,
I need a second opinion on this matter. Who has the most lovers chasing them, Percival Rainwood (not me) or Winnie Harper, who also likes to use some of them for nothing in return?
From Percival Gray, Prefect of Slytherin
The edge of the newspaper was starting to wrinkle as Winnie's grip tightened. She had read the question ten times over by now, but she was still at a loss. Most lovers? Winnie Harper? ... Her? Before she had started dating Mathias Pride, the boys at Hogwarts had shown zero romantic interest in her. After she had started dating him, she had been the target of Levi Drakos, a scorned ex-boyfriend of Mathias' who seemed out to get revenge for reasons unknown to Winnie. The boy had decided to torment her using his honeyed words and had claimed that prior to the start of summer, they had been involved in a flirtatious relationship. Something she had discovered was quite questionable, considering she believed Levi had drugged her food with a forgetfulness potion and caused her to forget months of her life. Percival considering Levi her lover was, if anything, cruel.
Then there was Jack Warren, her childhood friend who was like a brother to her. Heck, the boy referred to Winnie as his sister. Somehow along the way, Percival Gray had decided Jack's interest in her was romantic. In truth, their feelings for each other were platonic, nothing more, nothing less. How the prefect had deciphered that as her using Jack for nothing in return was beyond her understanding.
She had a lot of friends who happened to be boys, but what was wrong with that? They were nice people and she treasured their company dearly. Was she taking without giving back to them? She didn't understand why Percival would perceive her in such a way. What kind of messed up 'nice guy' logic was this? Just when she thought she and Percival had finally found common ground, he had ripped the rug out from beneath her feet.
Worst than that, the mask that Santario had helped her craft, the one she hid her emotions behind, was starting to crack. Her lower lip was trembling, and tears burned her eyes as she tried not to blink and release them. A loud mewl broke her concentration, and she glanced downwards to see her plump orange tabby, Pumpkin, demanding her attention. "N-Not now..." She told him, her voice wavering as she spoke. As she drew her gaze upwards, she caught sight of him.
Percival Gray.
He was sitting at one of the tables, apparently engrossed within this edition of the Headliner. Tch, he would be. As her gaze on the boy lingered, she felt all her pent-up aggression rising in her throat, and her mask cracked. She stormed over to the Slytherin, and slammed the Headliner down onto the table next to him, opened up to the advice column section as a reminder of why she was so angry. It was with a swift motion of her right hand that she would try to punch Percival square in the face.Whether or not she hit him, she would lean down to lock eyes with him. "Hey asshole. I don't know what the hell your problem is with me, or why you care about my personal life, but I have one 'lover', and it's Matt." She did not use her normal pterodactyl yell, instead, she used a tone that was saved for the moments her rage stole away the volume of her voice. It was a lower octave, shimmering with anger and resentment as she practically growled her words. "Jack is my brother. Levi is the jerk that erased my memories. That's why I asked you for help that one time, but you didn't care enough to wonder why I was uncomfortable, did you? You just jumped to your own damn conclusions about me."WINNIE PUNCHES PERCIVAL:

Launch day! While the Headliner team had been a little delayed this year in getting their paper out, Evelynn was no less excited. The content of paper had been quite an enthralling and versatile collection, sure to ensnare the attention of many of the student body. Plus, she'd had the fortune of being able to dabble as a writer herself this time, submitting articles relating to fashion, etiquette and advice. Given the response to her small little advert welcoming questions, she hoped to see that particular column garnering the interest of her peers. She'd certainly enjoyed writing those responses.
Having volunteered to help arrange the stacks of papers in the Great Hall, Evelynn arrived on scene just a little after the rest. Arms filled with a stack full of papers to replenish those that had already been snatched up by students, she picked her way carefully across the hall with as much grace as her burden would allow. Believing it prudent to walk the walk—so to speak—of her articles, the outcome of the Multicorfors spell she had employed resembled one of the ready-to-wear articles from the Versace 2021 Fall Collection: a patterned fitted capped-sleeve dress resembling the colours of her House, complete with black leggings, belt, and beret. Not vibrantly attention-grabbing, but still fashionably sophisticated.
A few students lingered near the stand as she approached. Some kept to themselves, content to be absorbed in the world those pages had to offer. Others were not quite so quietly reserved in their perusal. A redhead nearby started going off about the headline article about T. Ruth. Reflexively, Evelynn's eyes deviated in her direction, a wry smile hinted at the corner of her mouth. Not interjecting, she simply plopped the fresh batch of papers atop the piles; and as she arranged them carefully, edges aligned and sides straight, she listened.
"Curious, really, the leaps you have taken," Evelynn finally did speak up, curiosity winning over better judgment as she engaged the younger student. "That article...it was written by Koko Riddle. At least the introduction was. She mentions that the quoted article had been found in the officer, much like T. Ruth's original article had been, but nowhere had it said T. Ruth had written it." In fact, Evelynn was quite certain it had been written by someone else.
"The writing is similar in some ways," she admitted, brow shrugging as she inclined her head, "but the tone is quite different. Further, it simply does not fit. Until now, Ruth has never referred to themselves in the third person. And this new found—allegedly—article does not at all align with the tone of the letter Ruth had published in one of the last issues of last year. I cannot help but find it interesting that you have chosen to jump so quickly to the conclusion that this article was written by T. Ruth rather than another anonymous individual choosing to comment on their work. Have you even read the other articles?"
"And what controversy are you referring to?" Evelynn inquired, shooting Aurelia a bemused look this time. "Are you also under the assumption that T. Ruth wrote this one? Or are you simply recalling last year's articles? I have to admit, while their contents have seemed a touch theatrical, that first dhampir one, especially, I have yet to find fault in them. Never, as far as I can tell, have they indicated that half-giants or dhampir could not also have good qualities; nor did they state that all of those who are purely human are good. To me, they have always read as a sort of pamphlet to highlight ways to protect yourself against different people. Similar to how there exist self-defence classes for women to protect themselves against abduction and men who would see them harmed."
Incredible, really, that even after almost six months, the T. Ruth articles would still be garnering interest. It had come as quite the surprise to see that article submitted to be featured on the front, and she was more than a little curious to know who had written it. And for what purpose. A true admirer of the infamous Ruth? Someone who understood their purpose and shared their point of view? Or perhaps it was satirical? An effort to further discredit the monikered author despite the lapse? Perhaps it was a quiet encouragement for them to continue writing more articles? Or a warning against doing just that? Whatever it was, it seemed to touch more than a couple sore spots of students. How much of a domino effect would this issue have this time?

Distractions, distractions, distractions, another day, another new way he needed to look for them. This time it was through the Headliner. Alec did read the headliner, almost faithfully really. Or at least he'd done so until drama had come up and Alec had gotten busy. He still wasn't sure what had happened there. He hadn't asked questions or gotten involved. He was realizing now that maybe he should have. It was about more. More than he ever would or could begin to understand. He'd held back because none of it was his place. With enough of a mind to think something about it wasn't right but hold his tongue until now. Alec set his paper down at an empty place on the Gryffindor table after reading it. After such walking over to where his eyes had caught the most commotion within it and the sight of someone he'd seen more recently.
Alec's eyes avoided the older student, instead, focusing on the Ravenclaw. Reminding himself that he was getting involved in the situation for two reasons. One, blah blah blah, stupid head not being nice and letting him ignore all the pressure he was under. Two, he had questions, and as he got closer, it sounded like one of two may have answers. Semi-smart enough was good enough for him. Settling for anything was kind of the whole thing he had going on now anyway. Living in the moment and junk.
Alec walked over to the group of two slowly, able to catch the end of the older student's words. He avoided eye contact with her for many reasons, but the main one was because of her almost looming presence. His eyes though not looking at her were showing that he was assessing the situation, carefully. “You don't know what you're doing by telling someone like her to sit down. Telling her to sit down is only telling her to do the opposite.” Alec said, his eyes trained on the Ravenclaw now. It was a whole thing, him knowing her and all. He rolled his eyes at mostly this whole thing before taking in a breath. “You act like that will stop her, but you have to know that it won't, there's no way you could assume it could,” Alec said, his brows furrowed. “You should know.” He folded his arms across his chest, only to get himself to stop fiddling with the pins on his messenger bag.
It was unrealistic he thought of the older student to say something like such and expect much out of it. He tried to ignore the fact that he'd only ended up doing the same only prior and rather recently. She had to know though still. The girl was voicing things like that out loud, she didn't care what went down south or not. He wasn't surprised if she'd get up and try to start something. But maybe with her friends not involved she would feel less threatened or have less of a need to protect. Mama bear instinct or something. That was when his head turned instantly just to be sure. No friends near for now? Alright good, maybe just as a precaution-“If you try to fight me again I will hex you out of existence.” Alec muttered to Juni. Or at least it would feel that way. You can't do much while you're stuck vomiting up slugs. Alec just had to be sure, he wasn't looking to hold her off again, it was annoying. He didn't even understand why she didn't use what skills she had to be better at it She was nimble, there was a lot that could have been done with that.
Alec seemed to blend into the background and someone else walked up and maybe that had been a good thing(Totally not here because the author wrote this before eve posted). His lips pursed as the girl spoke, he didn't care who any of the words were directed to. It was something about her. Alec believed he'd met her before or at least seen her face. It was a little hard too remember, too often focused on other things to think of those he didn't interact with. The tone of her voice was off-putting... It wasn't that anybody could completely argue with all the arguments made but, there was something weird about it all. Anybody who disagreed was lying.
He turned to the other girl the much older student(Aurelia), when things had settled down and Evelynn didn't seem to be engaging as much. He would try to keep eye contact with her but his unease around the older one was somewhat clear. It didn't wear on his face but his body language. A stricken, stand tall posture, very different compared to his usual relaxed slouching. It was always the main thing that gave anything away for him. It was a problem because it humanized him far too much in people's eyes. He was just hoping maybe it would be taken as normal. He knew of Aurelia faintly(but no would not recognize her and remember spin the bottle). Alec opened his mouth, pausing as he realized he hadn't thought about how to use words for this part, and took a minute before he spoke. “I have questions.” Alec said, his voice quieter, not wanting to draw attention if he could help it, he made a gesture pointedly, “you seem as if you would have answers.” He'd made up his mind only minutes earlier, he was much too determined now. “When do you have free time and what would you want?” Alec asked. He figured he wasn't ever going to get anything for free. Especially information, but maybe there was a way to find something around it. If he couldn't get anything from her then he'd have to find someone else who would give him answers.
It wasn't just about the headliner situation, but almost everything. Alec was felt queued out and it was clear the headliner wasn't doing enough to help with it. Besides, he was still desperate for any distraction he could get his hands on.

"Old news? I mean, I heard about what happened last year, but what exactly?" She asked. The girl who had spoken to her was extremely pretty, but she had an imitating effect. "Yes but if we sit down nothing's gonna change!" She yelled. Alec Mason chose that time to walk over. He told the girl the truth, but the wording was... not very nice. "And what's that supposed to mean, someone like me?" She asked, glaring. "I mean you are right." Juni turned to the first girl. "What happened last year?" It sounded like something to know.
Another girl walked over, saying this wasn't written by the T.Ruth article. "Uhhh no, I'm a first year. I all know is she's... racist? Is that the word you guys use?" She shook her head. "Whatever! " Alec turned to her, saying if she tried to fight him... "Don't just assume I'm someone who get's into fights every day all the time." She said, rolling her eyes. "I can never not exist, butt-face. I am far too... unforgettable anyway." She claimed.
Then the redhead [Eve] continued speaking. "Well I find something wrong with the fact that people are writing this." She shook her head. "I don't- what- that's not even fair! Not everyone is the same. All we need is to know self-defense, period. Don't single out certain people because of their race. Defense against the dark arts is for defense, we don't need someone telling us to defend ourselves." She said.
Her bold side was kicking in. She wanted to do something! Just like her father joined the air force, she wanted to defend for what was right.

The young part goblin cackled, he wasn't being called out in the Headliner, and that was good news.... well, for him anyways, as he wasn't being pointed out to the whole school- maybe the whole world! A calming presence would overtake him as he entered the Great Hall where a commotion was being raised. This was his home. Chaos was what he thrived on. He noticed the girl from the Birthday Party that he helped wreck.
He grinned, waved at Juniper, and looked around at the people complaining. He waved. "Hey guys! And... Winnie." Cody said, stifling the word Winnie, as he grimaced. He didn't exactly favor the girl, but he seemed to love ticking her off- but maybe that was too easy. He walked up to Winnie, unconsciously had his left hand rise up and he slapped Winnie. Sure, he missed, and it seemed to be very powerless, and he groaned.
A groan left the boy's red lips. He heard a pop out of his wrist. A screeching sound was heard as the boy wailed in pain, but not wailing as in crying, but to scream out loud.
He used his right hand to hold his left hand's wrist. Sure, it was not broken, but the boy was acting as if it was. If anyone cared, they might think he actually broke his wrist.
Note: By the way, I didn't include the roll, as my roll was a 2 anyways for accuracy.

Scarlet hadn't really taken any great interest in reading the school's newspaper during her first year, she had picked up the odd copy if she had heard from other students that there was a particularly interesting section. Though following the still relatively recent events that occurred in the Slytherin common room at the start of the year, she realised she was quite out of the loop when it came to the events of last year, so figured it wouldn't hurt to get into the habit of reading the Headliner.
On entering the hall, Scarlet spotted an older girl from her house standing by a stand filled with the latest edition of the newspaper, she grabbed a copy from the top of the pile, looking with curiosity at the Slytherin. Scarlet didn't know whether to give a quick thanks to her, she couldn't tell if the girl had anything to do with the paper, or just another student that had picked up a copy. Scarlet kept silent and turned back to the row of tables.
She looked around the hall for any familiar faces, she spotted Cody walking over to Juniper, who was talking with a couple of other students, as well as Henry sitting at the Slytherin table with Loki relaxed beside him. She debated who to go over and say hello as she glanced down to skim read the front page, the smile quickly disappearing from her face as she read the word, 'werewolves.' In the context of the words written before it, she knew what was to come wouldn't be good.
The mention of Greyback taking her back to her heated argument over werewolves with the first year, Liana, in the library, 'bet she'd love to read this,' Scarlet thought, feeling the same rage build up inside her again, 'how could people be so narrow minded!' Her grip tightening on the newspaper, she quickly turned over to the next page, and whilst the article had stopped with it's attack on werewolves, it still read as very much anti-non-human.
Looking up from the paper, Scarlet quickly made her way to the Slytherin table, she couldn't tell if Henry had taken a copy of the paper or had heard from anyone else about the article, in any case she needed someone that she could speak freely about her opinions on the paper with. Flipping back to the front page, Scarlet threw down the copy on the table in front of Henry, "have you seen this?" Scarlet asked him, her annoyance evident in her tone, "and I thought this school was supposed to be supportive of different races," she said as she took a seat next to him, "evidently not."

Henry had a routine each morning, the third year left his common room early and made a quick stop at the library where he would find a book that he hadn't read yet and read it during meals.
The teen settled on a book about defense against the dark arts and started on his way to the great hall with his orange feline; Loki perched on his right shoulder.
Upon entering, the teen saw the stack of the recent headliner along with a girl from his house hiding behind it which struck the third year has odd but ignored it along with the stack of papers as he went to find a seat.
The third year have read prejudices and gossip in the daily prophet in the years before Hogwarts so naturally he didn't take up his time reading it or the headliner, finding them both to be a place where people can write about prejudice and gossip nothing exceeding important.
The third year spotted a few ftiends but decided to sit on his own that day to read his book as he walked over to the slytherin table, placing his bag on the ground then taking a seat on the bench. Loki jumped from his shoulder and circled around a bit before laying, quite relaxed on the table besides his owner as his amber eyes examined the room.
Henry filled his plate with a egg, sausage, and toast as he opened the libary book and begun to read not expecting anyone to bother him or approach him.
"have you seen this?"
Looking up from his book, Henry saw Scarlet throwing a copy of the recent headliner in front of him. The third year shook his head as he replied"no-" then allowed the girl to speak, listening to her words as he placed his book down mentally remembering his place and picking up the headliner as he read.
Loki gave a meow toward Scarlet, greeting the girl as Henry read the first article on werewolves and other races before placing it back on the table and listening to Scarlet.
The article annoyed the third year to and couldn't imagine how the headliner was given permission to write something like that, he remembered Rose was a part of the headliner and swore to himself that if she ever brought up the fact in the future then he could remind her that the headliner is nothing, it's a place where students share prejudice and gossip and that she should quit.
Henry was never aginest the headliner, he was aginest the daily prophet for all those years they wrote prejudice and lies about werewolves but now it seemed like the headliner was taking the same path. Sadly.
"No one reads this rubbish anyway," Henry replied as he looked over and saw someone passing out copies of the headliner, worried that werewolves might got back to being feared, misunderstood, and the lies could began to spread about them again. Looking over at Scarlet, the teen offered a her a look he whispered, " Hogwarts is open to different races, it just things like the daily prophet and headliner promot gossip and prejudice. They look for news to get a reaction out of people and apparently this is it even if Iris bloody wrong."
