So last year I decided to participate in Artober by doing (mostly) sketching. It was fun, and my SO actually thought it had been a really great experience for me, and I honestly loved showing them my work, so what better way than to have another go at it!
I'm not totally sure what I plan to do this year, I was thinking perhaps a combination of watercolors and lettering - two things I've done in very limited capacity but would love to do more of. So, get ready to see some interesting amateur works!

Day 1: School Admission Letter

So here is my first artober piece! I was inspired by this watercolor scroll, and decided I would take my own shot at something similar. I'm not sure if its my paper or brushes or too much water or who knows what, but I can't seem to get that effortless blended feel like the original. I do quite like it, and for a first attempt in... oh... probably 8 years since I last watercolored, I'm pretty happy with it!

Day 2: (Avengers) Wizards Assemble!

I really wasn't quite sure what to do with this one, so I settled for Dumbledore's death scene. It was quite the rallying cry, so I felt it fit!
I took some inspiration from this image, but adapted it to the watercolor style i've been looking to explore. I do think it came out nicely, and I learned a bit attempting to create the light to come from the wands. The background was quite fun to paint as well! It's nice to let loose after a more rigorous sketch.

Day 3: Broom Racing

So here I started with a little watercolor field tutorial here, and then went in and added the shadows of some racers off in the distance. While the field turned out nothing like hers, I did end up liking it, as well as learning a lot from color mixing to attempt to recreate some of the colors she used. It was rather fun to just let loose here, especially vs. Day 1 where I felt very controlled. Plus adding the red sparks charm and the racers to the image is just so cute! I really like this one.

4: Phantom of the (opera) Castle!

Okay, I'll be honest, I know nothing about Phantom of the Opera aside from the fact that he has the mask, pines over a girl, and plays the organ. So... with that in mind, here is peeves causing his usual mischief, stealing the organ pipes and wearing the famous mask. Cute and fun!

Day 5: Newspaper

Went with a classic Hio headline for the Daily Prophet! I definitely think my color mixing is getting better!

Day 6: Library

Okay, I think this is my favorite so far! The colors are so bright, and adding in the little ghosty and flying books really give it that hogwarts feel. I love it!

Day 7: The real villain of the story

We all know the real villain of Hio is FIYAH! Honestly this isn't my favorite, but what matters is that I'm playing with colors and learning new things. I was inspired by this, but I don't know how to get the colors to blend so smoothly - or to not just look like blobs. Who knows! What I do know is I lost a lot of bristles in one of my brushes with this one

Day 8: Ollivanders

So I took some inspo from my library one with the linework for the boxes, but idk if it works as well. It's not bad though! I just got a new watercolor set with a lot more colors, so I'm getting used to mixing and what colors the set already has.

Day 9: Fake Permission Slip

So the blending for the paper... AH! CHEF'S KISS! I LOVE IT! It has such a nice textural quality, I'm so happy with it!
