A flying rivalry
October, 2019.
Charms was the most disappointing class in Ivy’s mind. She had always thought she could practice magic through duels with other pupils instead of only trying to make a person dancing. The worst was that sometimes they merely had to learn theoretical knowledge without moving a finger – something Ivy found boring. Not only was she frustrated about that, but she was also angry with her father who told her this class would be wonderful and that he could remember he’d learnt many things such as the Firestorm Charm which produces a ring of fire. The little Grant was feeling betrayed by her father who had given her a wrong vision of the classes.
On a rainy Monday of October, the first-year students were in the Charms classroom, learning about the famous Levitation Charm. The professor first taught them the incantation, the hand movement and then the effects. Approximately thirty minutes later, he allowed the pupils to take their wand and cast the spell. Ivy sighed and didn’t lose a second to make her first try. She attempted to concentrate and to visualize the pen flying in her mind – the classroom was invaded by a din.
“Wingardium Leviosa” she said carefully while making a little snake whose head was pointed upwards with her wand.
The pen slowly rose in the air, that was magical. A slight smile of content crossed her face while she looked at her success that nobody had noticed, not even the professor who was helping a girl at the front of the classroom. She laid her wand on the desk and sat again.
“Well done!” she said before to sigh “Then what can I do? They’re very slow!”
In fact, the others weren’t so slow, but for once, Ivy had done something faster than she could imagine. As she rapidly got bored to see the other first years failing, she suddenly had an idea. She took again her wand, stood up and cast the spell. Then she remained very concentrated on her pen and innocently started to make it fly just in front of her classmates.

@Ivy Grant
Ivy wasn't really sure what had come over her, but she didn't feel like learning that day. Also, it was Charms, a subject she excelled effortlessly in. She twirled a strand of brown hair around her finger, vaguely listening to the lecture. The Levitation Charm? Ivy had seen her parents cast it enough times to know it off by heart, and her private tutor had made sure she had a lot of knowledge about spells, although she hadn't been allowed to cast any spells. She had hated learning the theory without the practical part of it, and she had always preferred learning things like poetry and ballet, something she could show off.
As the rest of the class picked up their wands, Ivy followed suit. She levitated her quill half-heartedly, her chin propped up on her hand and her eyes wandering to watch the rain pattering down heavily outside. A small voice drew her attention to a tall girl sitting in front of her, who was looking rather bored and levitating a pen. The girl was speaking to herself in a low voice, about how slow all the others were. Ivy's lips pinched tightly at the comment. The audacity... Who did she think she was?
Hmm... Ivy's eyes flashed wickedly as an idea occurred to her. (Boredom does strange things to people.) Hushing those who had taken notice, Ivy directed the quill over to hover above the other girl's head before dropping it. It bounced off the other girl's head before dropping to the floor with a clatter. Laughter broke out in that corner of the classroom and the corners of Ivy's mouth turned upwards slightly. "Oops," she said. She was speaking quietly enough as so not to draw too much attention to herself, but the smugness was clear in her tone. "I ought to be more careful." Pointing her wand at the quill on the floor, Ivy raised it back to her desk quickly. She didn't want it to get stepped on or anything.
The Gryffindor, having executed the trick and drawn a few laughs from her classmates, was now rather curious to see how the other girl would react. Ivy observed her carefully. The green crest on her black robes meant that she was a Slytherin, and for such a tall girl, she had rather childlike features - round, full cheeks, large green eyes and a wide mouth. "Lovely to meet you," she said politely, as if they were meeting at a formal event. "I do apologize. It was completely an accident." To those who had been watching, it was rather obvious that it was not an accident, but to the Slytherin, it could come across as a genuine apology. Of course, it was anything but genuine. Ivy smiled a little more, although there was nothing friendly about it. Raising her voice a little more, she continued to speak, fixing her sharp grey eyes on the girl in front of her. "You were saying something about how slow we all were...?"

A flying rivalry
As Ivy was making her pen hovering here and there another pupil turned back and glared at her to show her how furious he was to be disturbed. The Slytherin apologized and shrugged her shoulders before she managed to make her pen coming back to her desk. All this because he can’t cast a spell, she thought with regret. Though, she was continuing to play with her pen hovering above her desk when something suddenly dropped on her head and stopped her concentration. Before she could make it out, the pen sharply fell on her desk and spread blue ink on Ivy’s shirt. “Oh no…” she sighed.
A girl was laughing behind her, maybe she had seen the little event. Ivy carefully looked back to identify her, hoping the ink hadn’t splashed all over her face too. This was a dark-haired girl wearing the Gryffindor badge. Her skin was very pale compared to her cloudy eyes mirroring the weather. She had a big smile, as the other Gryffindors sitting next to her. Ivy felt ashamed and looked down to the floor where she saw the famous quill that had distracted her. The other girl made it coming back and said she was sorry but something seemed to be wrong with her because her intonation was telling the exact opposite. Ivy was too much uncomfortable to look at her again, she preferred to clean her desk with a handkerchief before the professor see it.
The Gryffindor called her out a second time but Ivy was afraid because she thought she was just making fun of her in front of her friends, so she didn’t react. Then the girl apologized again and asserted it was an accident. Maybe she was right and she had just laughed because of the ink? Ivy turned back and immediately saw she was anything but friendly, regrettably. She smiled at her and repeated the sentence Ivy’d said a few minutes ago about how slow the pupils were. As she spoked louder than before, other students stared madly at Ivy who was still covered with ink. The heart of the little Grant started to beat faster and faster as she dislikes to catch somebody’s attention. Fortunately, the professor seemed still very busy with the other girl, but the Slytherin had to do something to defend herself. She turned back to her desk without saying a word and as she could feel the others’ gaze, she cast again the levitation spell on her inkwell. She quickly raised it above the Gryffindor and spilt it over her head with a mischievous smile.
“My name is Ivy, pleased to meet you too.” she said proudly.
