There's a couple of reasons for this. The year specific study spaces were set up when we transitioned to having items for spells. Previously these didn't exist, and likely wouldn't have existed if we didn't need the shops for spells.Julia Evans wrote: 19 Feb 2026, 14:44 This is both a question and suggestion -
Why is RPing not allowed in the year specific study areas, and why don't we allow it?
The reason they weren't set up as places to roleplay is because it would do a couple of things:
1) Increase the areas staff have to moderate.
There's already a significant number of areas staff have to look at with a significant amount of threads. This would add onto the staff workload.
2) Other study spaces including empty classrooms, common rooms and the Library already exist for students.

(ps. the secret forum for goblins is also not a roleplay zone, it's just there for me to collect money daily, not that it's 100% relevant but it's a non-roleplay forum area like you were asking about.)

Its me again! I was thinking we could change the prefect rules to 4th year and above only can apply because having first-years as prefects (1.) doesn't match the original story and (2.) It makes things IC weird. Like you just joined Hogwarts and became a prefect?

Being Prefects IC is only a flavor, the staff work behind the scene though is all OOC and can use all hands on deck. The same weirdness can be considered for those who become captains too, but like usual, I like to forget logic and congratulate people on the roles.Julia Evans wrote: 25 Feb 2026, 12:51 Its me again! Regardless. We would be forcing long time staff members who don't want to relinquish their roles into stepping down if we had to force 4th+ years. (like those who are still with a prefect character on their new student after graduating their previous)

Yes, but in that case, if all work is OOC, they can get a new account just for prefect work (Kinda like for teachers)Clark Baird wrote: 25 Feb 2026, 13:11Being Prefects IC is only a flavor, the staff work behind the scene though is all OOC and can use all hands on deck. That would mean extra work for staff to validate and add permissions to and just overall make harder on everyone. Having an extra account to log into can be difficult since it can be an inconvenience for some. That’s why we only do new accounts for adult staff.Julia Evans wrote: 25 Feb 2026, 13:14Yes, but in that case, if all work is OOC, they can get a new account just for prefect work (Kinda like for teachers)Clark Baird wrote: 25 Feb 2026, 13:11Being Prefects IC is only a flavor, the staff work behind the scene though is all OOC and can use all hands on deck. Me again! Could we maybe have a way to add a thread to 'Your RP'? Since I often forget to reply as I look at my replies in 'Your RP'

You can’t manually add threads to Your RP, but what happens is this: when you reply to a thread that is tagged as an RP (this means it was posted with the quill icon, rather than a chat bubble icon for discussions or a trophy icon for competitions), the thread goes into Your RP. You must post in a thread first if you want it to be added!Julia Evans wrote: 8 Mar 2026, 13:14 Me again! Could we maybe have a way to add a thread to 'Your RP'? As far as I know, this is hard-coded into site and would take some serious messing around with the codes in order to add something that would allow you to manually add to Your RP. A simpler suggestion is what I do myself: have a long-running draft, or post in your encyclopedia, with all the threads you want to reply to next!

Aly's 100% correct! You can also click the little heart icon to 'favourite' a topic, that way it can show up in the favourites tab at the bottom of your screen (if you have the shortcut bar turned on). I do that for threads I want to keep an eye on or reply to quickly, such as a starter I'm supposed to respond to.Julia Evans wrote: 8 Mar 2026, 13:14 Me again! Hello everyone,
I was just wondering why our RP posts had to be at least 200 words.
As much as I understand writing in details to make it feel as immersive as possible, it honestly doesn't hurt to write 150 words when there is actually nothing to say or describe so this rule just feels forced and it takes the "magic" away from RP because I'm constantly checking if I meet the word requirement thus explaining why I take some time to reply, because I know I have to write at least 200 words I'm feeling a bit lazy about it.
That's just me personally but I really don't believe that a good writing has to be 200 words, it wouldn't affect my experience on site and I don't think it would to anyone (correct me if I'm wrong people). A writing can be as detailed and interesting with much less words.
I feel like it's way too much work for the staff as well to check everyone's post like I be getting owls saying "your post is 178 words please change it" but I don't see how it bothers anyone? I just thought it was a bit riddikulus (see what I did there) that I get owled because I missed 20 words and I'm getting threatened that my post will be deleted if I don't change it in 3 days.
Again, I understand there is strict site rules but is there no way we can reduce it to maybe 150 words?
Thanks
