They can go to the kitchens now and then and ask house elves to help them do stuff I believe, or just ask the house elves to make things for them. Of course this does not take place in the actual kitchen section/area, like you can just mention it in a post. Or they can grab food from the great hall feast during meal times. There's also the Tri-Cook Club (that Kim owns) where he has a space with an advisor to watch over the students during this time period where they cook. You can also cook outdoors, which is another area Kim does for the cooking club.
