Snitches and Stitches
Interacting: @Rebecca Lark, @Ruby Cazares, Team 2, @Koko Riddle
For all of Peri's powers of perception, despite identifying the disheartened tone of Bex's reply, he entirely misread why she sounded so downcast. Surely, she was just disappointed over the fact that she didn't know the slowing spell. With a sleepy smile and soothing voice, the Ravenclaw reassured "Well, not to worry, it's likely you just haven't been taught it yet. You'll learn so many spells in the coming years, you'll lose track of what year you learned them in! Come to think of it, Arresto Momentum may have been year two, or three... no, two. I used it when I fell off my broom in second year." He nodded in affirmation to himself, looking pensive as he scanned the sky for any other fallers. "I'm sure having a broken rib 'sucks really hard'. Enjoy your nap, Bex." With that, he left her to her recovery snooze, settling cross-legged in the grass not far from her side with wand in hand.
The game came to a roaring end. Peri gave another piercing whistle of approval when Ruby artfully avoided the bludger, only to tut against his teeth in dismay when the opposing Seeker both stayed on her broom, and caught the snitch. "They worked so hard," he lamented low, supposedly speaking to himself, sounding like a dejected father whose multiple children had just lost their little league competition. He was polite enough to join in on clapping for Team One regardless. The Ravenclaw wouldn't be a poor sport out loud, but he had never cared for the Quidditch point system. How obnoxious, to fight and claw their way to a twenty point lead, only to lose at the acquisition of one dodgy ball. The excessive amount of cheating his team had been up to was selectively ignored.
Rolling up onto his feet and brushing a bit of grass from his pants, Peri loosed a sigh as he scooped up his broom. While he hadn't had a chance to play, he'd had his own fun getting in practice with his aim, not to mention healing. Before they went their separate ways, he made a point to praise "Fantastic flying and teamwork, Team Two, and congratulations Team One. It was a pleasure sharing the pitch with you all." He would try to catch Koko's eye despite the distance, patting a palm to his heart then pressing his hands together for a wordless Loved that, thank you.

Snitches and Stitches
Banner made by my beloved Raizel Voltrouz
There were just so many spells for her to learn here, wasn't it exciting? Wasn't it fun? She wanted Pericles to think well of her, wanted the older boy to see her as a competent witch who was worthy of his time and friendship, rather than a childish hanger-on who couldn't cast even the most basic of spells. He made it sound simple, and she once again found herself asking if it was that simple, and if the problem was just her. Too muggle to be magic, and too magic to be muggle.
"Maybe next year, then." She replied. She didn't know what else to say.
Raizel caught the snitch, in the end. It's why she'd been so excited about this match in the first place, hoping the joy of a much-needed win would seduce Raizel to leave duelling and join a broom sport. The energy had left her, though, and she found it hard to muster up any pride for either her friend or her team. She yelled out a half-hearted "Atta girl, Raizel!" wincing as she tweaked her sore, most likely broken rib. With the match over, it was time to get up and face the music - the music of course being her weekly visit to the hospital wing, practically legally mandated for every Hogwarts athlete. Pericles was a brilliant wizard and had done a bang-up job of healing her, but healing was complicated and it looked like she'd need more help than what he was able to offer. Even if she'd admittedly much prefer if all of her Quidditch injuries could be resolved here in the grass from now on.
She'd catch up with her friends and celebrate their win later. For now, she simply waved to Raizel, Alyssea, and Pericles, and went to join the assembling group of injured students.

Oh wasn't it great, wasn't it grand? No doubt the youngling was ecstatic for Raizel but it just had to be so, didn't it?
Good think no one was near to hear the strangled sound passing as a laugh that wrenched itself from her insides and out into the open as she finally caught sight of the blasted thing right as it was being caught.
Oh wasn't it great, wasn't it grand?
A moment of silence to regain composure (and let the rest of the shenanigans go down, great blatch Renelle), then, with a smile brighter than the sun plastered onto her face, descended to the grass. "You did amazing, Raizel! You too, Alyssea. Really, well played all," she would congratulate. "Oh, here's Cyrus back. Thanks again for letting me borrow him." And it all looked so real, it looked as if the loss hadn't effected her in the slightest.
To Ulysses, she'd give a pat on the back, a wink, and a whisper of, "Lucky dog, aren't you?" The joke would be obvious: the lad had been saved by multiple pretty girls in the span of one game. "You should probably get some bruise removal paste though, yeah?"
A glance to the injureds, of which Anti was a part. Astra reluctantly had to admit, the girl had played well. And that was something she could respect.
She'd congratulate the other members of Team One with less personality than these previously mentioned, and she'd congratulate and wish "better luck next time"s to her own teammates. The elder snake and the Hawk would get the most personal thanks, however, especially the snake. "I don't think we'd have made it as far as we did without you, miss," she said with a brief smile. To the Hawk, "Thanks for the encouragement. I- I wish you'd have gotten to play, maybe we could've won."
Oh wasn't it great.
After Renelle finished her penalty lap, Astra would loop an arm over her friend's shoulders and say, "Well, we didn't quite win, but we survived! I'd say that's worth a celebration. So, still on for that drink tonight?" No matter the answer, Astra would leave her friend in seemingly high spirits.
A thanks and a wave to Koko, and the girl began to wander, mind set alight with questions and reprimands of herself. How was she supposed to be the first Norrick Seeker, Quidditch player extraordinare, after this? How was she supposed to reach the astronomical expectations seemingly set upon her by her legacy, after failure after failure? Every single thing she'd done right so far paled in comparison to her unfortunate shortcomings- lack of talent, people things, matters of courage, and Herbology chief among them. She was too unskilled, too brash, to weak, too- too unremarkable to fit with her remarkable family. Even Roderick had done better for himself than she had, he was a top CoMC student and possessed uncanny skill for divination. As far as she knew, he'd never had such blatant failures (except in his brother duties, but that hardly counted now).
The Norricks, once you looked past their blood status, were fit for the history books. They silently served, invisibly became part of the fabric of the Wizarding World. They were oracles, Aurors, advocates, leaders. They were writers, artists, Quidditch players, duellists. They were talented but humble, a proud family to be in.
To hell with pure lineage, I've got this legacy to live up to.
Oh wasn't it great wasn't it grand. Her insides tumbled about and she seethed with annoyance, dissapointment, and frustration with the silent burden she'd put upon herself as Astra Norrick walked off the pitch and to who knows where.actions : leaving the thread and IC wandering the castle (to eventually end up at the Hospital Wing)

Lindsey grinned. “Thanks. I’d certainly try to make it when you duel next time.” Cheering on friends were something Hufflepuffs especially had a specialised in, counting the skill of balancing inter-house friendships and inner housepride - though Lindsey did secretly hope that she wouldn’t face such a dilemma next stage. But anyway. Badgers knew it all. “And yeah, scouting is exactly the thing. Have learnt a lot spectating some skilled duellists duel - a real feast.” She said, remembering the times when she first started out in duelling and one of her way of gaining experience was to show up on the stands when she herself wasn’t duelling.@Cassius Eden
“Sounds like a great experience.” Lindsey answered, with a hint admiration in her voice. She nodded quietly when Cassius brought up the word heritage - “Yeah, you’ve got a point.” Though Lindsey had quite a favour for the muggle world, she knew she wouldn’t want to give up all her magical powers and join them as a totally insignificant individual. “Practice is the key.”
The game was still going on and the players were busy doing their respective tasks. Lindsey watched as Kincaid did a skilful play the field and successfully scoring for Team 1, when she clapped along with Riddle’s commentating. Voltrouz was now diving, and Lindsey knew it was for the snitch thanks to her past experience in Quidditch training - was the game coming to an end soon? She thought carelessly. Oh. Not too much of a chance to play today, both for her and Cassius. There’s a little bit of pity deep in her heart, but the gist of unexpectedly meeting a friend to talk to somehow outweighed the disappointment.
Adulthood sounded rather far away - oh gosh, it was like yesterday when she first saw Hogwarts with her eyes on the boat - but the truth was that leaflets had already been stuck to notice boards and newspapers with career choice advices could be seen on her bedside drawer. “Well, guess I’m that sort of indecisive person when it comes to career paths.” She let out a little laugh. Cassius proposed healing as a possible choice for her, and Lindsey rested her chin or her palm, gazing yonder with much thoughtfulness in her chocolate brown eyes. “Um, healing’s fine - my mom’s a healer, actually - so there’s a chance.”
She thought for a few seconds before continuing. “I’ve been thinking of entering the Ministry for a while. When I was a kid I sorta wanted to become an ambassador, but recently I’ve decided that politics just isn’t for me. For now Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes or the Improper Use of Magic Office sounds a lot better, as I think I wouldn’t mind dealing with kids and offer them proper guidance.” She shrugged slightly. “But really, who knows? Maybe one day you’d see me in street offering fortunetelling services - I’m quite fond of Arithmancy too.” Lindsey said breezily, slowly drawing her eyes back from the flying little figures and to Cassius beside her, as if drawing her mind from the anticipated future adulthood to what she was now, as a fifth year student facing O.W.L.s and taking a break for a chat with a friend during the process of a Quidditch game.
“And what about you? Professional duellist? Academic?” It was natural for her to ask the question back, curiosity driven. “I think you’d be fit for some more magical-orientated jobs.” She smirked. If one day she saw Cassius’ name in the headlines and he was the inventor of some highly powerful spell or some kind of intriguing potion, Lindsey thought she wouldn’t be much surprised.
Bludgers were constantly flying thanks to the solid smacks of the beaters. Voltrouz seemed to have something in her fisted hand, and when Lindsey leaned over trying to see it clearer, a bludger hit, and Voltrouz apparently had a difficulty to cling onto her broom. She did it, thank god, though it must hurt. And that was when two blatchers arrived - oh dear, that wasn’t very courtly of Team 2 - between which successfully swiped Voltrouz off her broom. The game was called to an end, and now it’s officially decided that the fifth-year second-string pair really hadn’t got the opportunity to play today, despite it was, indeed, their team who claimed today’s victory.
“Well, guess that’s it.” Said Lindsey after a cheer and a clap to celebrate the winning of their team. A slight disappointment could be detected in her eyes, though soon it was replaced by authentic pleasure. “Anyway. Thanks for the company, Cassius - that was a great time, really.” Lindsey stood up and stretched her limbs. Then she grabbed her Moontrimmer and did a playful curtsy to Cassius. “Care to walk to the castle together?” She offered. Surely, today was a nice day indeed.

As the game went on, it became increasingly clear that neither Lindsey nor Cassius would have an opportunity to play. On one hand that was a shame as the Ravenclaw had been excited at the prospect of trying Quidditch again; on the other, facing the others on a school broom with a risk of injuring himself before the upcoming duels was not something he would enjoy. He glanced at the old school broom beside him. It was as basic as basic could get. Quite unfitting for a wizard of his upbringing but he had decided to spend his allowance elsewhere. One thing he did know is that as soon as he was old enough to invest, he would be looking to buy part of the company that made Silver Arrows. They were quite popular.
“What kind of child wants to be an ambassador as a child?” Cassius asked with a slight grin as he listened to the girl’s words. “I am not judging but that is quite an unusual thing for a child to dream of. I actually considered that for myself, albeit only recently,” he began to explain. “There is a certain appeal to it I must admit.”
Indeed there was an appeal to it but it was also restrictive. One could not easily trounce around the world when duties were tied to a specific country. That would not do. Not if he wanted to pursue his passion of exploration and discovery.
Her words brought him back to the present. “A gift for Arithmancy, huh? I would not have guessed it, but now that you mention it I could see it. Should I ever make use of your services, I do hope I have an interesting future ahead of me. I would be most disappointed to find I am destined to sell shoes in Hogsmeade,” Cassius mused.
“As for myself, I will be expected to eventually take up the mantle of leadership for the family shipping business. That is many years away but I intend to make the most of my youth and freedom while I still can. Perhaps I shall explore. Experience the world and see what magical mysteries I might uncover or ancient artifacts to discover,” the Ravenclaw began to explain. “There is so much out there undiscovered and hidden away. So I suppose you are correct, a magic-oriented future is probably on my horizon.”
The match went on as they talked and was pretty clearly coming to a conclusion. Once it was called, Cassius rose from the bench with his old school broom in hand. He mirrored Lindsey’s look of disappointment albeit for just a moment. “Your company is always welcome, Lindsey,” he said with a warm smile. “We will get to play next time and you will get to see me knocked on my arse.” The boy beamed a pearly white smile and inclined his head towards the castle. “Of course, let’s head back. There will be plenty of time for you to tell me more about this Arithmancy gift of yours.”
