OOC FAQ Duelling Questions

Where is the sign ups for unofficial duelling??

Unofficial Duelling is something that players create for themselves. They are clubs and groups, I believe, who practice that, and it would be best to contact the owners of such clubs and groups.

There might be a few, so I don't want to advertise some specific one to not accidentally favour one over another. You can search for them in the Leaky Cauldron section here: viewforum.php?f=220

I'm not sure whether I should be posting this in this thread or in the dueling club thread, so please let me know thanks! There's something I think should be changed if possible and it's not very hard to change as it's not coding or changing the way things are set-up like how things are done etc... it's a very simple change. I would prefer if all official dueling mod posts would actually write the ACTUAL date and time the deadline to post is. As it is now they say 'you have 96 hours from the date/time the mod post was posted to post/send in actions or your actions are forfeit'. But I keep getting confused as to when that actually is. Back when I was a newbie I miscalculated it and ended up posting late. Now, I take precautions and get my post in 1 day before deadline. But I always have to calculate and figure out when that actually is... so my request is would it be at all possible for the one who does the mod post to instead of write '96 hours from this post' actually write the actual date/time instead? Like I looked up the current dueling post and it was posted on 10/25 at 22:30. I looked up 22:30 and it's 10:30PM if I'm right. But 96 hours from that I have no clue. I mean I don't know if I'm stupid or something but I can't tell if it's 10/29 at 10:30PM for the deadline or 10/28 at 10:30PM for the deadline. It would be less stressful for me if the mod post person wrote the date and time instead of just saying 96 hours from now. Not sure what you guys all think about it but I just thought I'd mention it and if it's not too much of a problem to change, I would appreciate it! I know for mod posts during summer games and stuff when there's a deadline they say mod posts will occur on Saturdays. Or they actually say an actual date/time. So much easier for me. But yeah, if someone could let me know if this is the right area to post this or if it should be in the dueling area that would be awesome! And I just thought it couldn't hurt to ask, I mean the worst that can happen is someone will say no it's better for us to just write 96 hours. Right? But might as well ask in case they don't mind changing to do that from now on!

Not a dueling mod, but this is how all sports are run, so here's my take: You would still have to calculate the time based on your timezone, so using the exact time and date would probably provide more error than not. For example, if I say the deadline is 29/10 at 7pm (GMT +7) but you're in GMT -6, then when is it actually due for you? Some places have daylight savings which may make this worse. (For example, America's east coast (EST) is GMT -5, but when they do daylight savings it's GMT -4.) I recommending just searching "96 hours from [time/date]" and google/some website will figure it out for you. (When ball posts and summer threads say "Saturdays" that usually means Sunday afternoons for me.)

Ah, so for EST which is what I'm in, what would the deadline be for me? I'm still not sure. Is there a website thingie that I can plug in 96 hours from a certain time AND date?

So that if I tell my partners the deadline and they post within that deadline, they will be safe? So if the mod says they are late I can show them what I plugged in and they would be fine?

Look in the upper left hand corner of your post. You see how it says you posted in this thread x number of minutes ago? This will turn into posted 10:15 am EST on Oct 27, so 96 hours from your last post would be Oct 31 at 10:15 am.

A breakdown of hours and their relative meaning:
24 1 day
48 2 days
72 3 days
96 4 days

So, while your mod might be in Germany and yourself in America, you can both know the correct time. The other alternative would be them telling you post by 2:15 pm GMT or Oct 31 at 7:15 am PST and you would be having to look it up what GMT or PST is relative to your time zone. So this is why we use hours and time stamps. So just look in the upper right hand corner of your post and add 4 days.

If time mark for me is 10:15AM, if we did it the first way of counting, it would be October 30th at 10:15AM. But if we did it the second way of counting, it would be October 31st at 10:15AM.

I'm assuming you count it the second way since you said above that deadline would be October 31st at 10:15AM. Right?

You just do 27 +4 as 96 hours is 4 days. So 27+4 is 31st. You cannot count the first way you posted as you have to add hours.

Hi! So I just had my first duel - and got knocked out - do I go to the Hospital wing? I know you don't have to, but can I do a write up of going into the hospital wing?

Also, at the end of the duel do I say anything at the end (of the thread) or is that just the end? Like once the winners announced do we just disperse?

The winners of the duel got some sort of point - do the losers get nothing? What is the point for? Is it a duel point or a skills point? Sorry I'm still new and getting the hang of things.

Glad to be a part of it and can't wait for the next duel. Thanks for helping with my newbie questions .

If you want to post that you went to the hospital wing for your injuries, you can. However, it is likely that, unless preplanned, no one else will post in said thread. Most people don’t do this.

After your duel ends, you can write a post of your character feeling triumphant/defeated. However it is not required.

Losers get nothing other than new knowledge of your opponent and an entertaining duel. Winners who posted every round get +1 stat points to the stat of their choosing, which can be added by posting here (proof would be a link to the post saying that you won from the mod.)
