This is okay! Whenever we feel most distant from him, most alone, most afraid, this is when God is closest to us.

When feeling wounded or alone, the first thing to do is always to pray. Jesus, I trust in you! The prayer that is always answered is the prayer for faith and repentance.

And remember that, although we're not with you physically, we are here all around you! We've got your back here! :green_heart:

I'm so happy this exists :D You can find Our Lord in all places, often unexpected <3

I'll be honest, I've been struggling to reconcile being a Christian and roleplaying magic... it's something that still bothers me sometimes. Am I betraying the Lord even though I see this strictly as a hobby? The Bible is very clear on God's stance on witchcraft.

I understand it's not an issue to many Christians, but I'd be interested in hearing from those of you who are also wondering... did you guys pray over it?

I hope you all have a blessed day/night :)

OOC, we do have to remember that this is fantasy and we shouldn't take the magical aspect of this place super seriously. Most of us are here, I think, for the writing, the stories, the relationships, the adventures and all of that. We use the magic more as a game mechanic.

If your faith is strong and you don't feel drawn towards real world "magic" and occult stuff because of this, and you understand the fantasy nature of this setting, then it is very much harmless fun. However, if you find that this aspect of the setting doesn't sit well with you where you are in your spiritual life, then I would recommend prayerful consideration. First and foremost, a Christian (of any stripe) must follow her conscience. One way of exploring this is actually through your character as she learns here.

One thing, though, that I really appreciate about the magic of the wizarding world, is that JKR specifically did not make the magic system one of a spiritual or spooky domain. Unlike the "magic" and "witchcraft" that scripture condemns, this is a natural force. It's rational and understandable --- it works not because of some unexplainable something, but it works because it conforms to the natural laws of the world it exists in. And like the real world, this fictional world was created by the same God who established a rational and understandable cosmos.

I've actually been considering it for the last couple of days, and I think you're right. It's an argument I hadn't seen before, but it makes total sense. The witchcraft that exists in our world, the kind the Bible talks about, is demonic in nature, and that's exactly why it's prohibited.

The magic in HP isn't spiritual at all; it may be called witchcraft, but it's just not the same thing. I'm actually quite content with that. :)

Thanks for sharing your insight, @Colin McCoire, it really cleared it up for me. When I asked this question at my church, I got opinions from people who didn't understand HP, and they were completely against it.

You're welcome Lisa!

The range of opinions are the same in mine! Very frequently people react out of fear or ignorance. The more we learn and the more we study a topic (guided by good teachers, of course), the more prepared we are for when important questions arise!
