If all of the chasers were too preoccupied with their activities, Johannes would just have to take up the mantle. He looked around himself once, gauging the game's position, and paced in front of the hoops one last time before shooting out towards the pitch's central area with a purpose. With the quaffle in his sights and the wind in his ears, Johannes could finally make up for his first round of flying about as the rest of his team made their impressions clear. He agreed that it was better to be safe than sorry, especially in the beginning rounds, but one couldn't deny that the clever quips and potential banter being exchanged between Yilbegän were what made the game fun.

Chuck's encouraging words from further down the pitch bolstered his motivation as Johann closed in on the quaffle, only for it to be swiped out from beneath him by some unknown-faced, bone-picking red-headed Ravenclaw. With no bat, helmet or eye for the snitch, she was the embodiment of a keeper's most common (read: most annoying) enemy - a rival chaser - and it seemed that she was taking her proper position slightly more seriously than previously expected out of the British team.

Quietly scowling to himself, he took control twice over in a row and brought his team 20 initial points, but this lead was quickly broken by Ravenclaw once more getting their grubby little hands all over the quaffle. Now tied for points, the last grab could put either team in the current lead and Johannes was all too happy to take advantage of the chaser's momentary distraction (River's Unsettling Aura)[/i]. "Hands off, Duracell!" He snatched back the quaffle after the offence that was the chaser's theft, growing somewhat irritable at the anger-inducing sight of his defenceless rings being so obviously taken advantage of, and aggressively scored the last goal of the round. Turning back to confront the ill-mannered bird with all the maturity of a wronged child, Johannes was forced to reign back his rearing broom at the shock of seeing a sudden bludger ricocheting directly into her.

He shot a wide-eyed, impressed thumbs up towards the nonchalant source of the wizarding baseball on steroids as Plott's commentary sounded off, the chaser clearly battered and barely holding onto her broom from the single hit. Would it be overkill to say that she sort of deserved it for going after his hoops...? Either way, she would feel that blow for looong afterwards and, though Johannes was in more than safe hands, he couldn't help but recognise how fucked up the safety regulations were. Whatever administration that allowed bludgers to be made of solid iron probably didn't get paid enough to try changing an ages-old wizarding sport.

The stadium - far larger, wetter and more crowded than it ever needed to be for a school game - seemed to grow ever more enraptured with each new move and Johann, though (or perhaps, because) it was his first official game, was not exempt. They were at the very beginning of their gameplans, with only the consistency of Plott's commentary and the looming thunderstorm overhead to tell the passing time, and yet there was already something surreal about it all.

A thunderous cloud call, a crack of blindingly bright light- the heavens themselves seemed to split with the force of Romeo's rallying call, all electricity-laden darkness and bone-cold rain. Revelling in the building chaos and inspired by the quality of their plans, Johannes' attentions had never been more gleefully engaged in an official sport. The dark, drifting afterimage of lightning followed his every thought as he strategised his next move, a forked spectre whispering dangerously in anticipation.

They were on the cusp of something great and powerful and wholly unattainable by their mortal souls, but that impossibility didn't eliminate the ability to try. To hell with it if there were gods up there watching them all, otherworldly and disapproving in all of their storm-cloaked expectations. Yilbegän might as well put on a good show.

Arjan grumbled to himself, cursing loudly at the bench for his teammates to hear. Why was he not able to go out there and beat some bludgers at some of these idiots? What was everyone doing?! They had only scored thirty points thus far, allowing their opponents to actually score twice too. What was the keeper doing?! What were the chasers doing?! And what for the love of Stribog was the seeker doing? The snitch still had not been caught! He would have managed to end this by now if he was playing. It was so simple! Why was he bloody benched?!

BROOM:
Oakshaft 79
Stats: +4 to two stats (Evasion and Accuracy)
Abilities:
In the role of Beater, if you hit an opponent with a bludger the bludger will then ricochet off that user and target a second opponent of choice (must be declared, if not declared the target will be random and can be an ally but not yourself).
In the role of Beater, if an ALLY dodges a bludger during the round, there is a 20% chance that you catch that bludger with your bat and you send it at a RANDOM enemy target.

Note: For the rules lawyers out there: you are not considered your own ally.
In the role of Beater, if you critically hit with a bludger, instead of doing double-damage you do 2.5x damage. If you critically fail with your bludger attempt to hit, rather than having your bludger randomly target another user (including yourself or an ally) the bludger cannot target you on a critical fail (but it can still target your allies). On a re-target, there is a random roll for target and then a fresh accuracy roll.

Evgeny chose to ignore the other Koldovstoretz student sitting beside him, but also thought it best to listen to her at the same time. Who knew if the girl would snap and curse him or something along those lines. At least it seemed the team was actually doing something, but he still did not have the chance to play. If he could just get the chance to play then maybe he could prove that he was actually worthy of being on the team and not some second string player who never got to do anything. All Evgeny wanted was for someone to realize that he was worth something, even if it was just another player on the Quidditch team.

Rosella only laughed with a shake of her head as Charles flew closer to her after his penalty lap. "Do not have yourself knocked out Charles, I would like to be able to converse with you still" The girl called out to the boy as he flew away. She was not sure how she ended up being his friend, but she would not replace him for the world. The Russian girl wanted to participate in the game sure, but she did not want any of the other chasers to get knocked out just for her to be able to do that.

Valya soared high above his beloved earth as it sprawled on and on past the horizon in its beguiling, curving arc. The heavens were Valentin’s native element, where he wielded his greatest abilities, unified the best with his team’s mind, and manifested their will the strongest. High up, Valentin saw the maximum with his crystalline keen eyes as the planet’s great expanse laid out before him, holding him and all its treasures close with gravity. The white seeker was born for this.

Pushing up into the thunderclouds themselves, Valentin’s veins burned with electric adrenaline as he swam through the physical incarnation of his own boggart. He needed to go higher, holding his breath through the choking humidity, as all light blurred into continuous grey. Higher, ever higher, the boy had to believe he was still going upwards even when he had no way of knowing his place. The moment stretched on like an eternity of its own as the seeker taunted the sky gods again, just as he had on the day he’d died, but this time he flew not weak with pain, but zealous with ironclad will. Valya had to grasp the golden snitch this time. His incredible, eclectic, soulful blessing of a team deserved nothing less than Val’s absolute, conclusive clutching of victory from the claws of all possibility. Bursting through the crown of thunderclouds, Valentin gasped and breathed out in his native Tatar, “Stribog, guide me.”

Skimming along the tops of the dark clouds and losing sight of the game below, Valentin threw down his gambit while Edward swirled about in defensive circuits below. With faith that Valya’s co-captain would balance out his blindness when it came to adjusting their strategy for next round, the captain had to press on alone now. Even if it made him the reincarnation of Icarus himself, Valentin just couldn’t grind out the location of the snitch slowly-- he needed to be here, at risk of death, to gain the maximum advantage by trying something new. Wild speed, the lifeblood of the boy’s chaotic heart, spurred Val on regardless of his perilous heights.

The grumbling of the storm below crawled through Valya’s snow white skin and reverberated in his bones as his animal instinct reminded him of what he had only barely survived. Undeterred, purple allium eyes scanned above, and swooped below, seeking on as his emotions cleared into perfectly transparent lucidity. All that remained for him was the solid lifeline of the Arrow, the firmament’s colors shifting in each direction, and Valya’s open gaze. Then, with only the meekest glint, the snitch revealed itself to the boy.

“YAHHH!” Valya shouted to his broom, so high up that he was completely out of earshot of any mortal being. The Silver Arrow beneath him shivered under the force of his wish and bolted forward at maximum speed, only for the capricious snitch to dart directly down into a bulging grey cloud. Losing visuals did not mean, however, that the seeker had lost his feel for where the metallic spark must be. Valentin did not think, for to think would have been too slow. All he could do was dive, dive headlong back into the thundercloud in a desperate effort to not lose his target.

It wasn’t as if Valentin hadn’t studied. He knew that 80% of all lightning occurred within clouds themselves without ever touching the ground. Yet, Val held tight to his broom, frozen in rapturous thrill as he entrusted everything to momentum. Heavy grey mist embraced him with its suffocating mass as a crackle accompanied a metallic taste in Val’s mouth. The boy felt his heart pump harder as he realized his pure silver earring was beginning to vibrate. Indeed, silver was not only the strongest conductor of electricity, but metal conductivity itself was defined by silver’s rank of 100/100. A surge of lightning was building all around him.

"Who the hell do you think I am, Val? I don't let go. Never," drifted the memory in Valentin’s mind. The hair on the back of the seeker’s neck stirred as if summoned by a greater power, bidding it to stand on end, and Valentin pressed his lips to the handle of his Lichtenberg-scarred Arrow with the close of his eyes. Could he still feel the snitch’s presence?

Just let the momentum carry you…

With a startling flash of light, Valentin broke out of the clouds into the clear open air in a gasp. White eyelashes parted and he caught sight of gold again, exactly where he thought it would be, and the quirky jitter of metal jerked and spasmed and sped down towards the ground yet again. Despite the irony, Valentin had no choice but to follow the dazzling glint as it flounced its way back over towards the teams, belly-deep in the stadium.

The low position of the snitch forced Valentin into playing it cool, as he could not afford to reveal its location to the enemy team… even when he himself could not avert his gaze. Upon re-entry, Valya wove about in random directions as he tried to divine the state of the game by sound and peripheral vision alone. As if welcoming him back home, the characteristic clap of Romeo’s bat led Val to his beater’s side. Valya dipped his head in greeting, and although he didn’t need to say a thing for his co-captain to understand, the boy couldn’t resist sending Romeo a wink as his violet irises darted about. Valentin’s gut had already brewed a plan while his higher cognitive functions lay silent under the pressure of concentration. Still, the strategem spilled out of Valentin’s lips as if of its own accord. Romeo smiled and nodded in turn, although his movement was a blur in Valya’s blazing eyes.

"Yes... That might just work," remarked Romeo, ruffling Val’s wet, silvery hair. While Valentin could not look back at the boy, a radiant smile rushed over his face. In a flash, all the seeker’s tension vaporized in sublimation, and tracing the snitch’s dance became as pleasant and leisurely as watching #4 train. Indeed, Val’s task felt ten times easier now. The co-captain went on to propose an addendum to the plan, and a loud, deep purr rumbled in the back of Valentin’s throat.

"Sounds wonderful. Please tell the others while I cover my tracks," Valentin whispered with unearthly peace. Though enshrouded with grey stormlight, the pale boy seemed to glow. He never doubted that he could count on his co-captain’s brilliance, but to hear the words now curled Valya’s toes. It was like alighting on the ground after a long glide down, ever-knowing the earth would be there, but still glad to feel ones feet land upon it once more.

Unable to linger a moment longer without endangering their mission, Valentin tucked his feet back onto the broom bristles behind him and leaned back in ascent. Val’s next words would barely reach Romeo, and with Val’s face turned to the sky, the seeker’s expression could only be guessed at.

"The augury was right."

With that, Valentin rolled into a sharp corkscrew loop that veered towards the fans, allowing him to swoop in just over their heads. Sadly unable to look at his cheering friends as Val maintained a lock on the snitch, the best he could do was fly over them in a low inversion with his Durmstrang cape billowing and swooping behind him. As quickly as he had arrived over Greta’s and Yefim’s heads, though, Valentin peeled away, back to the center of the pitch where his chaser, #3, greeted him with cheery banter.

"They should have known better than to fight Durmstrang during a storm, eh Karlchen? We are in our element. It’s no wonder they’re all huddling together for warmth on that one broom. They’d freeze to death if they tried camping with us in our own backyard. Anyway, you’re good with the strategy?” The seeker’s head didn’t turn at all as his eyes skipped from one point to another in the distance. Charles nodded before flying off, and Valentin also turned to fly by the rest of the team with his fist in the air in encouragement.

Lightning ripped across the heavens directly above, crashing loud with a booming shockwave of thunder, and Val’s hands tightened on his broom. Although a wave of trauma pulsed through him, Valya forced his panicked breathing to lengthen back out again. Taking in a gust of rain-scented air, Val’s skin prickled with raw thrill as the intense rush of being alive coursed through his veins. This was their moment. It was time to take back Durmstrang’s undefeated title.

With the backdrop of white-blue lightning crashing behind him, Romeo roared out in battlecry:
"LET'S GET THEM, BOYS! STRIBOLG IS WITH US! FOR THE YILBEGÄN!"

The glory of #4’s baritone soared, and with it, Valentin’s spirits. Something chinked into place inside of Valya then, as if a puzzle piece slid into alignment with revelation. Raising his silver tenor, Valentin joined Romeo with a scream in exhilaration.

"IT’S TIME! TAKE THIS VICTORY WITH US. WE ARE UNSTOPPABLE!!”

Lysander's saving duties went disregarded when an opponent pair planted themselves directly into his path. Whether broom troubles or fatigue to be blamed for their stalling, the duo was free pickings as far as he was concerned. Shifting his weight forward, he accelerated towards them with intent to collide, eyes on the prize that was their elimination. “Sorry, girls!” he sang out once in earshot. “It’s not personal.” Except it very much was concerning Quidditch—and with that he lurched his Oakshaft parallel, side-swiping into the Silver Arrow that cradled them. Despite the slight struggle that ensued, Ravenclaw went tumbling. Plott’s disdain for his actions would receive the snub of the century, a single shrug as he flew straight to the field's perimeter. Yeah, yeah. The only thing he would be thinking about was sweet victory.

• When attempting to use the return to broom action, this is a free action (meaning both users can make a normal action) the rider and ONE passenger (if there are multiple sharing the broom, it would cost both of their actions to return them to their broom also) can retrieve a single broom.

• This broom can carry multiple people. When someone uses the catch option to rescue a falling teammate, they can catch one additional teammate in a given round. If the user has the ability Catch then a user can catch an indefinite number of teammates in a round, but for each person they catch after the first there is a stacking 20% auto-failure chance.

• In the role of Chaser, if you have a contested quaffle grab and a contested strength roll between yourself and another user is in progress, unless they have the same broom, you would be the victor of the contested quaffle grab. In addition, rounds where you are successfully carrying the quaffle in an attempt to score, you only take half-damage from bludgers and blatching attempts.

Things that do well in threes: Musketeers...Stooges...the Holy Trinity, but three quidditch players on a broom was outright ridiculous. Durmstrang was hitting Hogwarts hard, but we were stubborn and refused to go down easily. So onward the three amigos flew hoping for a miracle. Whom would assume their broom with no room but a strong sense of gloom could continue to zoom and not head their doom falling to an earthly tomb with a presumed Ka-bloom. Jorah hoped they wouldn't need to save another fallen bird.

"Give me some room to think wouldya," Sylvain whined from between the beaters as he tried to unscramble his brain's spiral from the fall. This was... not exactly what he had planned, but then again that bludger practically had his name written on it to begin with so maybe they were better off three to a broom for the time being. At least this way he didn't have to pay attention to where he was flying, well that and it felt kind of nice to be alive right now. Asides from all the throbbing pain anyways.
