Aurelia that sounds awful. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't daydream or lose myself in my thoughts like I am used to.
Tbh, I think it's just the first day effects and brain adapting to it. I have had my thoughts on now - daydreaming is not nearly as excessive as it used to be when I'm on meds. It's much calmer not being 'anxious' and slightly fidgetty due to said anxiety. I'm able to live more irl than excessively in my head which is much more ideal. I can actually catch onto what ppl say rather than words just flying over my head. Speaking about words - my speech is much smoother without the stuttering from mispronouncing words when my thought are just constantly jumbled like earphone wires.

There are obviously side effects - but that's for my doctor and I to figure out. Other than that, I'm doing really well. I've had breakfast 4 days in a row and actually have a decent sleep schedule.
That's good if you are adapting and feel better than you were now.

Does anyone have any advice on how to handle panic attacks? I've been starting to get them more and more often...on Monday I got one in the middle of a performance. Today I had to spend two whole class periods in the counsellors office to calm down. All that I do right now to calm myself is feel the different textures of things and that helps bring me back to reality and feel less detached from my body, and sometimes if I'm in the right mindset I write and that helps too.

Yes.
I get them too.
My mom gave me these homeopathic things that actually really work well.
When you take them breathe and try to calm your mind down.
The 'pills' will help you do so.

They aren't really pills, as in you won't get 'immune' to them like you would if you take official doctor prescribed pills. And they aren't habit or addiction forming either, so that's a good thing! They are supposed to be all natural stuff, aka homeopathic. ^^

Hope they work for you!

Also, what it is is they are tiny little tablets that melt beneath your tongue. So you don't have to swallow them or anything and they don't taste bad either.

I'm sorry to hear that you're getting panic attacks. It really sucks. I hope my insight/experience helps you/anyone reading who needs it a little...

Do you know if it is a panic attack or an anxiety attack? I'm not an expert but panic attacks, usually come with sort of an irrational fear of suddenly dying (from the way your body might be physically acting) and are sometimes accompanied by an out-of-body experience. Anxiety attacks often build gradually while panic attack often comes very abruptly. But an anxiety attack can also lead to a panic attack. Although a 'panic attack' is a more common term to use generally.

While I don't think I've come to the point where I've had a panic attack, or not that I've remembered... sometimes my memories come in bits pieces during very stressful situations - I think it is a bit of dissociation and adhd memory failing me again, but I'm not entirely sure. I often become noticeably (by others and myself) very introverted - and 'not myself' during heightened anxiety episodes. It is one of the ways to get me to shut up. Often I get almost delusionally flustered when I can't remember/misplace stuff - not ideal when you have adhd but I'm working on that.

A trick I've been told by a school councillor (they tried but dr google helped me more than she ever did) back in the day was: 3-3-3 rule whenever you get anxious was to name
3 things you see. 3 sounds you can hear. 3 things you can smell/move 3 parts of your body.
you can also try
5 things you see. 4 things you can touch. 3 things you hear. 2 things you can smell. 1 thing you can taste

While this takes a bit of effort and practice, it can be effective for some/of you, it wasn't for me. Recently, what I found works was talking to myself in my head whenever I noticed signs* of being anxious. Like:'brain, calm down. this happened: you were honked at while crossing the road/you stuttered in your speech/you're having a p bad adhd day/youre likely overthinking - theyre not judging u/youre in this v crowded noisy place... but you are alright... it's not something to be overly anxious about... calm down' Just simply being more self-aware of your own anxiety works well for me.

It was just very negative screaming in my head before I learnt that this worked for me. My previous grounding technique was not that ideal... that developed into a subconscious response. I began to run a thumb nail along the tip/side of another finger just to create a mild sensation of pain to serve as a distraction from anxiety/thoughts (my nails are always trimmed short). Funnily also became one of the ways I adhd fidget at times. At first, it helped a little to calm me but lost its effect and found that I began to do it subconsciously when nervous - which is now one of the indications of my anxiety.

Also, try and list and remember things that have triggered your attacks before and take note of them. Although mine sometimes creeps up on me with no reasonable trigger - very annoying. List your symptoms - it can vary for everyone: Chest tension/aching, heavy breathing, fidgeting, excessive thoughts etc... this is for you to be more self-aware when you feel the slightest bit anxious and try to calm yourself before it escalates into a full-on attack. When it does, sometimes the best thing for you to do is lie/sit down and just breathe. Takes time to know what works for u.

This is just what has worked for me. Honestly, I've been avoiding therapists/psychologists for the longest time. (Whereas a psychiatrist skips the feelings and straight to the point) I know you're still in school, but if you tried talking to someone/parents to get real professional help and advice, it might really help you in the long run. Advice from a random person on h.io can only help you so much. Working to improve yourself is best, and supplemental pills may help together with that.

this is a rant about my damned brain.
i was at clinic today and my supervisor nurse told me to try practising monitoring dog/cats heartrate. there was a meow that took a little longer to wake from sedation and on a puppy. for anyone who doesn't know, the average cat heartrate sedated is 120 and can go to 195 per minute. my brain is just not that capable of counting 2.5-3/sec. so you'd need to count the heartrate for 10sec and multiply by 6 or 15sec and multiply by 4 so it adds to a min.

the thing is, my brain could not get the hang of it even with like half an hour. like hell, i struggled to breathe because my brain was more focused on counting - which couldn't even do that right - than on actually breathing. it couldn't damn count the basic numbers either, i dont know why. like 11, 14, 15... 18... 17... 20... no that's not it... why tf are you doing this brain? and i'd have to start again which it does the same thing and jumbles numbers. it was so frustrating. and then my anxiety decided to get a little triggered by listening to the rapid baddums of heartbeats + not really breathing. which was then i decided to take a break and try again in a few hours. my brain was super fatigued, which happens when trying to sustain concentration. i hate, hate my brain. pdsugbwoagag

soooo.... still on adhd meds. and now my brain isnt trying to fight with me when listening to cat heartbeats today in clinic! i was finally able to do it right and rather accurately and my brain let me breathe properly and count properly. and it wasn't super fatigued out like last time. o m g. i dont know where to begin my brain felt like mine, not like a separate entity.

i really hope you do, its been somewhat better on my mood + mental health. noticed much less negative self-talk and loathing. though it does stifle my appetite as a side effect ;-; i previously enjoyed the ritual of eating meals because dopamine imbalanced adhd brain. now i find its just not nearly as gratifying + low appetite when i eat until it wears off.

how exactly does it affect your appetite as whole, if i may ask? like, do you just don't get hungry as often anymore or becoming averse to certain types of food?
