Changes to Pet Costs

Pets are a common item, a companion and an aesthetic choice for many players. It is a dNPC that a player creates a bond with and is an important part of a player's story. It was also previously inaccessible for newer players. Players could afford/settle for cheaper options, however in doing so they would be developing a story with something they did not want to develop a story with. Pets are often something we choose (the exception being those heart-touching stories) so it should not be a moderated scenario that the wealthy or popular can buy their way out of.

This change will make it possible for the average player to be able to afford a pet within a month if they save their scholarship at the very most. The cheapest pet, within a week if someone felt so inclined.

They are happiest in high places and subsist primarily off small rodents such as mice. Rats are thankfully too large for these spiders to consume but they can be seen weaving small trapdoor webs over shallow pits where they trap their rodent or sometimes insect prey. If well cared for, a European Trapper can live well over 2 decades.

These spiders are not as attached to humans as the European Hairy Trapper but they coexist with them, they require a lot of free space and refuse to remain in a terrarium. They are often seen in high places such as ceiling weaving large, dark webs. They will tolerate human contact but are notably curious and have been known to jump to other humans besides their carrier causing a panic in arachnophobes.

They subsist off small animals, when young and small (60 centimetres, just under two feet) they primarily eat insects and mice but when they are full-grown (correlating with a player's final year in school) they are about 190 centimetres which is a little over 6 feet, they often consume animals such as small rabbits, squirrels and rats.

Bunnies

Lionhead Thumper (12 galleons)
Image
Name: Lionhead Thumper
Price: 12 galleons
Description: This rabbit is characterized by the bushy mane of fur around the collar. The coloration of their fur varies from a light tan to a deep yellow reminiscent of the lions they seem to emulate. Rather friendly, these rabbits tend to make a fine companion for a wizard because they are rarely startled by loud expressions of magic. In fact, Lionhead Thumpers are often willing partners of wizards that enjoy transfiguration oddly enough and are known to be one of the easier living creatures to transfigure, it is presumed that this is because these rabbits consent and enjoy the prospect of being something else.

An adult Lionhead Thumper can measure 40 centimetres (16 in) in length, and weigh 1,200–2,000 grams (2.6–4.4 lb). The hind foot measures 8.5–10 centimetres (3.3–3.9 in) in length, while the ears are 6.5–7.5 centimetres (2.6–3.0 in) long from the occiput.
Two-Colored Devil's Spawn (9 galleons)
Image
Name: Two-Colored Devil's Spawn
Price: 9 galleons
Description: Noted for its dual coloration - mostly black and white or a shade of brown and white, the distinctive facial markings reminiscent of a mask as well as the hindquarters being a darker color such as brown or black offsets the white forelegs, lower head and chest. A rather unassuming appearance, some may even describe them as "classy" in appearance, commenting on how they look like they are wearing a mask and slacks to a masquerade; those that know the two-colored devil's spawn know that the name comes from their personality. These rabbits are known to run both hot and cold (or "two-toned"). They can deviate from being calm, even affectionate to being destructive in a short period of time. Known to burrow into beds, rip bedding and even chew on corners of furniture or walls, these bunnies require an attentive owner.

Female Two-Colored Devil's Spawn are typically larger than males with reproductive needs being the most likely cause. The weight of the Two-Colored Devil's Spawn can range from as little as 756 grams (1.667 lb) up to as much as 1,153 grams (2.542 lb). The average length is 40.8 cm (16.1 in), but can be as long as 50.8 cm (20 in) and as short as 33 cm (13 in) but the smallest are rare and almost exclusively male.
Mist Hopper (12 galleons)
Image
Name: Mist Hopper
Price: 12 galleons
Description: The smallest of the pet rabbits sold to wizards. The Mist Hopper adult weight goes up to 500 g. They are notable for not only their very small size but also their short, dense fur that ranges in color from brown to black, but most commonly grey. The Mist Hopper is a gnawing animal that is distinguished from rodents by its two pairs specialized of upper incisors that are designed for gnawing as well as its powerful hindlegs that make this rabbit a powerful hopper, able to clear six feet easily in a single bound in spite of its diminutive size.

These rabbits are more timid than most, due to their size they are vulnerable to many predators but they take well to their human owners. Often a Mist Hopper can be found in the pocket of their human owner. When on the ground their speed and hind leg strength is notable, they are the most nimble and the fastest among the rabbit breeds found at Hogwarts.

It is believed that Mist Hoppers can tell the weather because they insist on going outside shortly before a storm. This has not been proven or disproven, but observation suggests that this rumor might be grounded in some truth. During misty mornings and times of rainfall, Mist Hopper are often found bounding about in the rain and seek the company of other Mist Hoppers.
Magician's Accomplice (11 galleons)
Image
Name: Magician's Accomplice
Price: 11 galleons
Description: Pure white with short fur and long ears, every Magician's Accomplice looks exactly alike with the only difference being their eye color which can range from pink to red, from black to varied shades of grey, even brown, green or blue. They earned this name for muggle magicians who would pull a rabbit out of their hat by the ears as if by "magic." Truthfully in some cases it was by "magic." The Magician's Accomplice makes its home in a preferred hat, the dimensions of the hat hardly mattering as long as it can wiggle inside because they seem to find accommodations larger on the inside than they are on the outside due to their enchanted presence. When looking inside the hat, the rabbit cannot be seen but can be felt by a hand that reaches inside the hat and withdrawn easily by its ears which appear to be longer than the average rabbit ear.

The Magician's Accomplice is a small hare, measuring 28.5 to 43 cm (11.2 to 16.9 in) in length, and weighs 1.1 to 1.9 kg (2.4 to 4.2 lb). The skull is small, measuring 76 to 88 mm (3.0 to 3.5 in) in length. It has narrow nasal cavities with their back portions being straight and flat. The supraorbital process is low and flat, or are slightly curved upward. The auditory bullae are round and tall, and the palatal bridge is narrow. It has long ears, measuring 9 to 11 cm (3.5 to 4.3 in) in length. The tail is 5.5 to 8.6 cm (2.2 to 3.4 in) long, and is white in color.
Ferret

European Ferret (13 galleons)
Image
Name: European Ferret
Price: 13 galleons
Description: Ferrets spend 14–18 hours a day asleep and are most active around the hours of dawn and dusk, meaning they are crepuscular. However most ferrets will live happily in social groups such as with other ferrets or with a wizard. Ferrets do not do as well with other burrowing animals since they are territorial, they like to burrow, and prefer to sleep in an enclosed area. Often their sleeping space carries a distinctive musk. Like many other mustelids, ferrets have scent glands.

If excited, they may perform a behavior called the "weasel war dance", characterized by frenzied sideways hops, leaps and bumping into nearby objects. Despite its common name, it is not aggressive but is a joyful invitation to play. It is often accompanied by a unique soft clucking noise, commonly referred to as dooking. When scared, ferrets will hiss; when upset, they squeak softly.

Ferrets have a typical mustelid body-shape, being long and slender. Their average length is about 50 cm (20 in) including a 13 cm (5.1 in) tail. Their pelage has various colorations including brown, black, white or mixed. They weigh between 0.7 and 2.0 kg (1.5 and 4.4 lb). Most ferrets are either albinos, with white fur and pink eyes, or display the typical dark masked sable coloration of their wild polecat ancestors. There are four basic colors. The sable (including chocolate and dark brown), albino, dark eyed white (DEW, also known as black eyed white or BEW), and silver.

Additional Information: A male ferret is called a hob; a female ferret is a jill. A spayed female is a sprite, a neutered male is a gib, and a vasectomised male is known as a hoblet. Ferrets under one year old are known as kits. A group of ferrets is known as a business", or historically as a busyness. Ferrets are naturally curious creatures that need opportunities to explore.

Bewitched Midnight Stalker (18 galleons)
Image
Name: Bewitched Midnight Stalker
Price: 18 galleons
Description: The Bewitched Midnight Stalker is relatively slender, graceful fine-boned cats with long legs and tail, neat oval paws, almond-shaped eyes and large pointed ears. These cats are exclusively black with short fur. Their eyes vary from golden to green or even blue, some reference how their bright eyes seem to stare from the void.

Bewitched Midnight Stalker are notably social and playful cats with an intense interest in the activity around them and a tendency to vocalize often and persistently, and sometimes loudly. They are reputed to be highly intelligent. They are also reputed to be notably acrobatic, and to enjoy intimate contact with their owners.

The Bewitched Midnight Stalker earned their name from a mixture of muggle superstition such as the superstition that a black cat "crossing one's path" leads to bad luck, or that cats are witches' familiars used to augment a witch's powers and skills. In truth, it does none of these things but some witches love a good cliché.

Spiders

European Hairy Trapper (20 galleons)
Image
Name: European Hairy Trapper
Price: 20 Galleons
Description: A venomous (but harmless to humans) spider that is about the size of a baseball. These spiders enjoy nesting in human hair, particularly long locks of hair or beards and often develop an attachment with their carrier. While it is hard to define these creatures as 'affectionate', these spiders are distressed when separated from their human.
Black Webber (20 galleons)
Image
Name: Black Webber
Price: 20 Galleons
Description: A large spider, about the size of a baseball that is best identified by its pure-black body as well as the black webs that they weave. These spiders do not seek prey larger than an insect, their mouths too small to consume a mouse even when fully grown.

Image
Name : Emerald Gazer
Price: None, this is a pet that is only available to Parselmouths. when a Parselmouth comes of age to own such a creature, please contact your head of house and they will add this to your profile.
Description: A normally impossible to domesticate snake, these snakes have an uncanny attachment to Parselmouths. Often they find the Parselmouth, not the other way around and develop a life-long bond with their handler. These snakes are known to become so attached to their master that they often die a short time after their owner passes away.

110 centimetres - YEAR 5
150 centimetres - YEAR 6
190 centimetres - YEAR 7

Ferret

European Ferret (14 galleons 2 sickles)
Image
Name: European Ferret
Price: 14 galleons, 2 sickles

Golden Veiltails possess nacreous scales, an intermediate between metallic and transparent scales that are pearly in appearance and range from yellow to orange in color. Golden Veiltail are long broad-bodied with well-developed finnage possessing a tail that is exaggeratingly large, moderately forked, and rounded at the end making a shape similar to that of a heart or the capitalization of the letter "B". Edit to Wandmaker:

Kneazle Whisker:
Roleplay Flavor: The wand vibrates when near deceitful people (this is determined by the user roleplaying in the thread with the user and is not a tool for godmodding). This is not a lie-detector and deceitful can be translated to mean a prankster, a liar, etc. The wand is not all-knowing.

Reed: (Apple had this edit but it was missing from Reed)
• When an unknown non-magical language is spoken around this wands user, they have a 25% chance of understanding (they cannot speak) it. This is a roleplay effect that can be rolled at user discretion.

Holly:
• This wand electively exudes the owners emotions. Those around the user can feel (faintly) what the caster is feeling, be it happiness, anger, sadness. This does not override their own sentiment, it merely allows others to be empathic towards the owner of this wand.

Parselmouth:
• Known to vibrate when Parseltongue is being spoken within hearing distance.

New Potions Ingredients
The more observant among you may have noticed that a large number of new items have been uploaded to the site over the past couple of days. These items represent the ingredients and components required to brew and create potions in the Potions System. In order to accommodate the large number of new items, a new storefront has also been created in the Potions Storeroom.

The prices of existing ingredients have also changed. Generally, this means that they have increased in price. Although, some, such as Dragon Blood, have seen a cost cut. This is to balance the costs so that most potions will take the average player about a month to gather enough money for.

The Potions System is still in development, and further information as to how these ingredients and the recipes you learn in class will interact with this system will be released when the system is ready. As a part of this development, we are actively discussing the 'Components' ability and what that will mean for gathering. The team have been hard at work behind the scenes and are excited to provide more information when we can.

Potions Recipes
As a follow-up to the new ingredients now available, a full list of Potions recipes taught as apart of the Hogwarts curriculum has now been published. Some of these recipes reflect potions that have as of yet not been added to curriculums, but are there for when they are added in the future. For those of you with Prodigal Potions Learner, you will now be able to rely on the recipes as published here for your study ahead.

Some potions are not taught as part of the regular curriculum and are instead confined to the Restricted Section. If you notice that a certain potion is not listed here, it is likely not an oversight.

I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the members of the Potions Team and our previous potions professors for assisting in the creation and collation of these recipes.

The link to view these recipes is here.

Castelobruxo Lore has Been Added to the Site

Take a look at the Brazilian School of Magic. Information on this school can be found here. There is also a roleplay area for this school which can be found with the other schools here. To celebrate our newest addition, we have a new emoji on our discord, if you squint real heard you might be able to figure out what it is.

A few quick answers to some questions players might have:

1. Castelobruxo is not anticipated to be participating in the Triwizard Tournament. If there is amazing interest in the school that would support a full team, this -might- change, however the focus and priority is on filling up the other schools we already have.

2. Castelobruxo is not anticipated to be playing in the summer games (dueling, broom racing or quidditch) as they are just being developed at this time. Again, if there is amazing turn out, this -might- change, but that is doubtful considering the limited time we have.

3. Castelobruxo will be in attendance at the summer camp this summer for the first time.

Prison System

You have done something so heinous wizarding society had to lock you away. Perhaps only for a few weeks or months or perhaps forever. Violent criminals and dark wizards will likely never see the light of day again once they are incarcerated.

A new forum area has been created, called Azkaban. Incarcerated individuals are limited to Azkaban for all of their in-character interactions. This is done via a shift in permissions for your character so you cannot backdate threads to a time before your incarceration or play as an NPC as a means of circumventing this restriction. The user would maintain access to OC areas such as "A1 the Counter". In Azkaban, they can post in by themselves, with faceless NPCs or on rare occasion with a visitor. Visitation is heavily restricted but on occasion Aurors for instance have been known to meet with prisoners as part of their role.

Note: The prison would not allow a group of school children to visit their prisoners.

The only way out of Azkaban is to complete your sentence or to escape.

Sentence Served - for lesser crimes like assault, forgery, corruption, etc. the time duration would be limited and once that time has passed, the player is free to return to society.

Escape - best used with players that are not going to be leaving prison any time soon or are there 'for life' such as murder, being a dark wizard, casting an unforgivable, turning others into werewolves or blood thralls.

How does one 'Escape'?
Once a month a player can be given a series of rolls where they attempt to escape. These are stats checks. It is never easy to escape from Azkaban. The escapee has to write 500 words of them attempting to escape, then a mod will roll in our roll channel if they successfully escape. This is based on their abilities and stats.

If unsuccessful, they will be notified of their failure. On success, they will have their accesses changed so they can post outside of Hogwarts. They are a wanted criminal and if they are caught, they will likely be sent back to Azkaban. The chances of escape are likely to diminish with recurrent escapes.

Can someone help me escape? Yes, they can provide stat boosts but if it is a failure, they join you in Azkaban.

What do the escape rolls look like?

DC 30 and three randomly determined stats. For example, DC 30 strength so a player's strength (15) + 1d20 roll. They are a part giant so they gain a buff to their strength that will also be considered. This might be explained as having to pry the bars from your window for example. Then the next stat might be evasion. DC 30 evasion, so a player's evasion (10) + 1d20 roll. They have some auto-dodge built into their character, so their auto-dodge will also be rolled. This might be represented by some of the aurors noticing your escape and attempting to blast you with a spell that you need to evade otherwise you would be subdued. Then the final roll ends up being a wisdom roll. DC 30 wisdom, so a player's wisdom (5) + 1d20 roll. They are dumber than bricks so they would not escape even with a perfect roll here so they remain in prison. There might be a complicated door opening mechanism that perhaps confused them greatly for example.

If someone assists you in escaping, as *up to 1 person can 'help'* half of their stats would be added onto yours in the escape attempt. They have to write an escape scenario with you, so their own 500 words. If they are caught however, they are in Azkaban as well and will have to wait at least a month before they can attempt to escape. A major factor to consider is how did they get to you? We do not allow visitors to casually visit criminals in Azkaban. It is likely you had to sneak onto the island and sneak into the complex and find them. You would need to consider that as part of the escape scenario.

What are the possible stat checks?
  • Strength: this is a pure strength DC, anything that directly modifies strength will modify this effect.
  • Accuracy: this is a pure accuracy DC, anything that directly modifies accuracy will modify this effect.
  • Evasion: this is a pure evasion DC, anything that directly modifies evasion will modify this effect.
  • Wisdom: this can be modified by effects that increase their observation capacity (such as Keen Eye)
  • Arcane Power: this can be modified by anything that increases the damage of spells (this will likely be roleplayed as you overcoming a magical effect of this setting).
  • Stamina: this is a pure stamina DC, anything that modifies overall health or stamina will modify this effect.
  • Stealth: this is a combination of wisdom and evasion (average of the raw stats) and is not effected by skills that increase those raw stats, however it is effected by anything that increases the users ability to hide.
  • Poison Resistance: this is a combination of strength and stamina (average of raw stats) and is not effected by skills that increase those raw stats, however is effected by anything that increases the user's ability to resist potions/poisons.
  • Luck: yes, "dumb luck" this is a D10 with a critical success (10) being a success. Anything that increases the critical range of the user would also increase the range of success here.
  • Trickery: this is a combination of accuracy and arcane power (average of raw stats) and is not effected by skills that increase those raw stats. However you gain a +2 to this if you are an animagus, +1 as a charmer or calming presence.
A d10 is rolled thrice, the same stat may come up more than once. The user then has their escape attempt rolled. again, if successful, they escape. If not, they remain in Azkaban.

Can I save up my rolls over a several month period and do them all at once?

No.

Expulsion System

If your character has been expelled, there is no "going back", you did something too heinous for detention so going away for a few months or giving up a few Saturdays is not going to cut it.

What gets you Expelled: (This is not all-inclusive)
  • Casting an unforgivable (the spell trace is on your character, it will not take long to figure out it is you)
  • Killing someone, PC or NPC
  • Turning someone into a bloodthrall
  • Turning someone into a werewolf
  • Veela's charm
  • Repeated breaches of statute of secrecy: practicing magic outside of school (as a minor) in areas where it can easily be tracked by the ministry such as muggle neighborhoods.
When this happens you lose access to Hogwarts proper - the school and the house. You have access instead to Hogsmeade, Diagon Alley, and the areas outside of Hogwarts except the other wizard schools. You also no longer learn new spells. The only way to learn new spells will be by completing homework. You will not be able to participate in NEWTS and OWLS unless you have already participated in them. You will not be able to join a sports team. At the end of each year you will still earn 5 stat points and access to 1 additional ability annually as you normally would but you will not automatically learn any spells at the end of the year. Your continued learning of spells would be explained as either independent learning or tutoring.

How is this done?

I create a new role on site (expelled). Their title will be Year __ and expelled rather than a house. They will have no ability to post in any Hogwarts proper forum area. They will be able to see the areas of the school OC with the exception of the houses and staff areas. They will have access to classes this way to continue to learn spells but they do not automatically get spells (except ones we grant automatically at the end of the year because they are in no class).

Can I get expelled and complete all of the homework available to me?

The homework will open up for you year-by-year as it always had. The only difference now is that at the end of the school year you will not have access to any spell you did not take a class for. You also need to remain on Index, if you are removed from Index and do not go up a 'year' you will not be able to access next year's classes.

How am I supposed to explain learning spells outside of school?

Magical learning is compulsory in the UK. It would be presumed that you were taught by a tutor or given access to books for study.

Would I lose my wand?

We are aware of the Hagrid example from decades before Potter's time and even more decades before the present era. That was then and this is now.

This does not feel like much of a loss, what is the catch?

Actually it is a big loss for your character:
  • Sports are the only alternative means of stat gain and you are not able to join a sport team.
  • Most events and activities take place in Hogwarts.
  • You do not have access to the Forbidden Section of the Hogwarts library for spells because... you're not at Hogwarts. You are welcome to knw what you already know.
  • OWLS and NEWT exams are a big part of the adult system. When your character is an adult they will have to achieve similar credentialing via other means which will take a protracted period of time.
Can I backdate threads?

The expulsion system is access-driven so you are not able to circumvent the lack of presence in Hogwarts proper by claiming that your character did things in the remote past so that you are allowed to continue to RP in Hogwarts. So you can backdate, but you will not be able to backdate into Hogwarts.

There is something about ambition, how it not only propels you but also defines you.
