2022, Stage 3 Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 3

After the fury of incantations from the duelists, Galton didn't hear much other than awkward shuffling. It must have been the dodging of Autumn and Meenauh. Successful dodging at that. Galton had to know his spell would miss eventually, now more than ever with the blindfold.

A miss was a much better alternative than the other "failures". So far it seemed that his conversation with Mr. Wand had placated the wild entity. But he couldn't slack! He had to keep Mr. Wand locked in a stimulating conversation... or suffer!

Action: Having a Dark Conversation

Autumn knew full well that to win a duel, spellcasting was not the only component in need of mastery. The ability to dodge spells coming your way was a skill which could make or break a streak of victory. She wasn't the fastest, not necessarily, but she had quick enough reflexes and her focus was growing sharper by the moment, so when her opponents sent a Flipendo and Obscuro her way, she knew to move away in time. Still, her focus had primarily been on not being hit, so when time came for her to send a Mimblewimble Meenauh's way, the spell missed barely and Autumn could barely stifle her oncoming groan of disappointment.

Round 11

If at first they did not succeed, the duelists persevered and most certainly tried (tried) again! Unfortunately for the Gryffindor team, they were not met with any great success. Meenauh cast a powerful Flipendo, but Autumn was able to dodge, a feat she ought to be quite happy about due to the strength of the Knockback Jinx headed her way. Similarly, Galton was met with a swing and a miss, his attempts at blindfolding the Hufflepuff falling by the wayside. No, there was only one who succeeded that past round, none other than the underdog herself. Autumn's Mimblewimble struck home, Meenauh would find speech impossible for the remainder of the duel it seemed. A cruel fate, to be paralyzed in the last few moments...

Thomas certainly could appreciate the bravado, he couldn't help but smile a little.

Spectator Thread

Aiming without your eyes was much more difficult than Galton had expected. One would, of course, expect it to be near impossible, but it felt just a little more possible than impossible to the boy. He didn’t feel as if he was blind - there was no terror or fear to not seeing. There was just darkness. And a lot of noise that everyone was making. But even with the noise Galton would miss once again. Only thing he’d hear would be the spell impacting into his partner. That was not ideal.

He decided the best course of action was to inquire about how Mr. Wand was doing. Was he getting tired? Or was he just getting started? It was good to know what the Wand was thinking, made working together much easier.

Action: Questioning the darkness

Autumn remembered back to about a minute ago when she had cursed out the universe for not giving her a win. Clearly, the universe had gotten its act back together. Autumn was light on her feet, dodging an especially powerful Flipendo from Meenauh and an Obscuro from Galton.

If she was estimating correctly, they were nearing the end of the duel, so Autumn's focus couldn't be winning anymore. Now she just had to make it to the end of the duel, which meant that the more incapacitated her opponents could be, the better for her. So, she tried again with her Mimblewimble, holding her breath and wincing in anticipation, only to be greeted with a successful cast.

This round had been the best possible scneario for her, yet she was afraid even that couldn't save her now. She had stepped on the podium, destined to fail, and one good round couldn't rewrite that story, no matter how mad Autumn could get about it.

DUEL END

As the duel came to a conclusion, Meenauh took the opportunity to focus on her sick dodging skills. It seemed to work out for her, as Autumn's Flipendo did not hit her, the Gryffindor might've found it easy to dance out of the way. Galton chose to spend the last few moments healing his friend and partner, heartwarming indeed. By the end of the match, Meenauh's ability to speak would be returned to her.

"TIME!" Thomas called, signaling the end of the duel and for the duellists to stop casting at one another. "That's the end of the duel! I'm sorry, Hufflepuff, but with two duellists on the Gryffindor team standing they seem to have ended up the winners this time. Congratulations to the lions, well played on the part of both teams!" He'd direct the duellists to the Hospital Wing should they need to be fixed up, a smile on his face as the thrilling duel came to a neat enough conclusion.
