First Instance of Magic: His first instance of magic was at 4 years old, when he was playing with his baby sister, and she was about to accidentally fall from the second floor window when he wasn't looking. He panicked, worried about what'd happen to his sister, but suddenly the pavement became bouncy like jelly for a decisive moment and she jumped back up to be caught. When his parents learned of it, that's when they knew their eldest son was also destined to be a protector.

Alder Brightwood was born on May 14 in Cambridge, England. He was a son to Leo, a wizard who came from a family of Aurors, a Gryffindor graduate. and Lavender, a Hufflepuff graduate who worked as a healer in a local hospital. He also grew up with a younger sister, Aster, who is 3 years younger than him. Both of his parents were caring, compassionate and protective, and were wholly opposed to dark magic, fighting against its consequences in their own ways. His mother stayed within Cambridge, but his father often had to travel away to nearby London for his duties.
Immediately following his first instance of magic, he began to receive his first homeschooling about the wizarding world, but his parents couldn't fully agree on their methods. His father wanted him to follow in his footsteps like him, and so taught him about the threats of the magical world first, wanting him to face them bravely head-on. Meanwhile, his mother taught him of the benefits of magic, including its ability to heal and protect. She wanted him to be there for whoever needed it, just like she was.
And that went on for a few years. But then, one night, when he was 8 years old, everything changed in the parents' dynamic. He received the news by his mother one stormy November morning, that his father was killed on the line of duty last night by a powerful escapee from Azkaban, a life prisoner practising dark magic. He barely knew what that meant at the time, but he had an idea of what they could do from his father's stories. He was devastated. His father... Was overpowered, and is now gone? He could hardly believe this fate, but he did what he could to live on for his single mother and sister and continue his education, being sent to his city's basic wizarding preparation school for his mother to handle her now increased responsibilities and worsened financial situation.
When he was 11 years old, his mother came to him with exciting news. An owl addressed to him came from an address out of town, and he should find it interesting. He initially thought it was a letter from London, maybe another letter from his late father's coworkers? But then, the address was in Scotland, where he had no known relatives. He knew instantly what the letter should be and opened it excitedly. Finally, his life at Hogwarts was about to begin, with new friends and new adventures.

Character Backstory
Reducio
Rike was born on 25 December in Edinburgh, Scotland to Lisette and Alistair Bauer. Growing up in Edinburgh, Scotland in a pure-blood family, she had always been surrounded by magic. Her parents come from families whose parents were witches and wizards and their parents and so on. Her father is Scottish and attended Hogwarts as did his siblings, parents, grandparents, etc. While most were in Slytherin, there were a number in Ravenclaw as well.
Her mother, on the other hand, is German and attended Durmstrang Institute of Magic. Her mother never really opened up about her time at school, but she does have a long scar on her hand and wrist that she did say was received during a Charms class during her tenure at school. Rike does know my mother did well in school as she did mention her top grades and desire to work and live abroad, outside her small town she grew up in.
My parents met while working for the British Ministry and while their accounts of whether it was instant attraction or not (her mother says no, her father says yes), what did matter to both families was that they were a respectable match, since both came from long histories of pure-blood families. With this long tradition of keeping the families pure-blood, came along feelings of blood supremacy. While it isn’t as firmly believed in as it was a century ago in regards to half-bloods and Muggle-borns, it still leaves its mark in how Rike, her parents and family view the world as a whole. The family does believe that wizardkind do have supremacy over Muggles. And while they have been shown that half-blooded and even Muggle born witches are wizards can do wonderful things and hold their own, for their family, they do prefer to keep the family pure-blood and only respectable marriage matches approved.
For Rike, it wasn’t a question of if but rather when she would show her first sign of magic and be destined to attend Hogwarts like her dad and his family. She comes from a smallish family. Her mother and father each have only two other siblings each (father has an older sister and younger brother) and her mother has two brothers (she’s the youngest). However, Rike is an only child. Her aunt and uncles would come by and visit during the holidays. In particular, one of her uncles (her father’s brother), Callum works for the Ministry in the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes in cleaning up after Magic was accidentally released onto unsuspecting Muggles, so he’d always have at least three new stories to share each visit.
Rike always looked up to her Aunt Elspeth, who ran her own potions, ingredients and apothecary shop. She’s a potions master and it was something that always fascinated Rike and loved visiting her in her shop. Her parents did well for themselves, too. Lisette and Alistair both work for the Ministry as well, but in rather more mundane jobs compared to Uncle Callum. What it did mean was overall more stability and able to spend time together as a family for dinner at night, which was a cherished tradition. Her mother worked in the Improper Use of Magic office as an Improper Use officer who sends letters out to underage witches and wizards when she detects magic. Her father works in The International Magical Trading Standards Body as an officer in the area of Domestic Trades and Imports.
In June of 2024, Rike Bauer received an owl from Hogwarts with a letter of admission for the new school year. Her parents were pleased and made reservations to visit Diagon Alley in August to pick up her new supplies. They also sent out owls to the immediate family about her letter and planned for a special dinner before Rike and her family made the journey to Kings Cross to send her off.

First Instance of Magic
Reducio
My first instance of Magic was when I was about three years old. Mum tells the story repeatedly because she said it was just “so precious”. Apparently I was upset over something as toddlers are and I was just crying nonstop. Mum was tired and fed up and put me to bed. As she was coming in to check in on me, since I had miraculously stopped my tears, she walked in to see that I had summoned my stuffed animals into a little dance to get me to stop crying and seeing that made mum cry and laugh all at once. Dad came home a little later and told him all about it and he says that he was so proud he wrote owls to his siblings. The story is a favorite of my mum’s to tell people because she “couldn’t imagine something more sweet” and each tell of the story involves an eye roll from me.

Character Backstory:
ReducioCandace was born in Wallasey, England on 12th of September 2012. She was born in a dynamic household. Her mother, Melissa Lawrence, is a witch who stays hands-on with her children while her father, Michael Lawrence, is a muggle who has a decent job to sustain his family. Her mother had three children: Morgan, Candace, and Alex. Melissa being the eldest daughter while Alex is the youngest. When they are little, Candace, Morgan, and Alex love it when their mother will read them a book about witches and wizards and when their mother tells them a story from when she was studying at Hogwarts. Candace loved it. But still, her father makes sure that she doesn’t forget that she’s still living in a place full of muggles and that she must be careful. Candace loves reading different genres of books, in fact, she has a small shelf in her bedroom and puts her books in an arrangement from the book that she loves the most to the least book she loves the most. Despite her father wanting all his children to attend a muggle school, their mother insisted that all of them should be home-schooled. Candace always asks her mother all about magic and stuff and hopes that one day, she could stay in a place where her mother once fulfilled her dream of becoming a witch.
First Instance of Magic:
ReducioWhen Candace was around the age of 9, she, her siblings, and her muggle friends played a game of hide and seek in a nearby park with her mother keeping an eye on all of them. Candace picked a place where she thought she wouldn’t get seeked easily. A few minutes passed and almost all of them were found but Candace. One of her siblings noticed her foot and shouted that they saw where Candace was hiding in. All of them ran toward the direction where Candace was hiding, she’s expecting to be caught, but at least she was the last one to. Candace was shocked when one of her muggle friends said “Where is she?” while looking straight in Candace's eyes. She looked at her mother with an exact same reaction as her as she saw how Candace magically vanished as she was about to be found. She’s feeling a mix of excitement and fear when her mother explains to her what just happened at the park when they got home.

Ranyu Lies, has brown curly hair that ends just past her shoulders, ivory complexion, and hazel eyes. Outside of school robes, or under them, she prefers to wear sweaters with woodland motifs (mushrooms; rabbits; bugs) and long skirts. She stands at a reasonable 146 cm and weighs 82 lbs.
Being muggle-born, Lies enjoyed a relatively 'regular' life. She attended a muggle public school and had muggle friends and muggle enemies.
Her father passed early on due to illness so her mother and grandparents took care of her, all living under one roof out in Kerry. Her distant ancestors are supposedly from Germany. Her mother worked hard when she was growing up to give Lies a normal childhood. The Lies family have a close bond - her grandmother knits and embroiders her sweaters, her grandfather, being a mycologist, is her idol and encourages her passions.
While in primary, her closest friends were Cian Byrne and Holly Keevan (both muggles). Byrne lived a few doors down from her family so she got acquainted with him fast, while Keevan moved in their area at the age of 7.
Following her acceptance to Hogwarts, and the subsequent secrecy surrounding her school, Keevan and Lies grew distant, their relationship strained. Ranyu hopes to rekindle their friendship during her studies in Hogwarts with letters, once she learns technology won’t work there - something Keevan couldn’t comprehend (it’s 2024, what do you mean you can only send letters?). The Byrne and Lies family stayed close, maintaining regular contact despite the difficult and confusing circumstances.
In primary, Lies grades fluctuated between low average and average due to her being consumed by her hobbies. She's stubborn on her opinions, and while she is open to hearing people out, she often gets defensive if her views are challenged. She enjoys learning about her interests and finds it difficult to focus on things she cares little for. She enjoys receiving validation for her academic achievements. From a very early age she showed avid interest in the woodlands near their home and became a bug collector and adores learning botany from her green thumb family.ReducioHer FIOM occurred when she was 7 years old. Ranyu Lies had discovered an interesting mushroom in the woods, one she had not seen before. Excited and overjoyed she called for her family to come see it, wanting to learn more about it. She reached out to carefully pick it only for it to explode abruptly in her face. It frightened and upset her that she started crying, her family rushing out quicker to console her in concern. Hearing the explanation from a distraught Ranyu Lies, they assumed she had squished it by accident and consoled her greatly. Eamon Lies, in an attempt to improve her mood, help her to research and figure out this mysterious “exploding” mushroom, much to her glee.

Violet was born in Butzbach, Germany, on May 1st, 2013. She has 3 much older brothers. Her mother, a high school (Oberschule) teacher, died due to complications during childbirth. Her family moved to Liverpool when she was 4 because her father got offered a job as a lead surgeon at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. In Liverpool, she started school and learned English as a second language fairly quickly, still speaking mostly German at home. Violet is incredibly intelligent and good in school, especially when it comes to science and maths, but is ahead of her class in writing too. She also started taking ballet lessons in England, and after about 2 weeks she decided she would never stop dancing again. Most of her closest friends are from dance class, although she has some looser friends at school too. She has a decent relationship with her father, although with the amount of time he spends working and her brothers spend out of the house, she often feels left out and alone in her family. Being raised in a house with only her older brothers and a full-time working dad, she had to learn how to do a lot of things herself (as to not risk having her dad try to do her hair with a vacuum again). Violet also has an intense need to constantly prove herself even though most people in her life don't really care, and is willing to go as far as lying about her past experiences to seem more like she knows what's going on. This is especially true when it comes to areas where she feels insecure about her lack of knowledge or experience, coming from the fact that the other kids in her family seemed to be so far ahead of her in every possible way.
First Instance of Magic:

Violet's first instance of magic happened when she was 9. Her dad had just told her to go and clean her room, and she was so annoyed that as she was throwing clothes across her room into the hamper, harder and harder each time, the clothes on the floor started to move themselves and collect in the hamper.

ReducioAvis grew up in a small seaside town in Wicklow, Ireland with her two older siblings, Prim (2 yrs older) and Will (5 yrs older). She spent her childhood dragging Prim around the beaches and cobblestone streets of their village and adored her older brother Will whom she was more similar to in character than her reserved sister. The Greymond siblings' Auror father, Douglas Greymond, disappeared early in Avis' life after a mishap with a cursed portkey and a dark Seer, unbeknownst to his family, but their mother Tabitha worked hard to raise the three on her own by running a laundry and tailoring business for their Muggle neighbors (who always seemed satisfied by the speed and precision of her work). Avis was always desperate to leave and see the world at a young age which aided in the made-up games she would force Prim and sometimes Will to participate in. At times, she wonders where her father might be, but for the most part, Avis lived a happy childhood.
Douglas (Avis' father) is currently a missing in action Auror for the British Ministry of Magic. He disappeared when Avis was 4 and his family is still unaware of his status (dead or alive, where he is, etc.) Greymond was assigned to bring a Dark Seer known by the name Ibrus into custody. Greymond, in his efforts to capture the Seer, had to use a cursed port-key (courtesy of Ibrus) to find his target. Unfortunately, the Seer’s curse resulted in the port-key (a ring) attaching itself to Greymond and leaving him stranded in different remote places around the world, reducing his ability to go where he pleases.
First Instance of Magic:
ReducioAvis showed signs of magic at age 8 when she was forced to help Prim deliver laundry rather than take the trip to Dublin with their mum to drop Will off for his third year at Hogwarts. In her frustration, she made a basket of clean laundry disappear completely. Later, Tabitha Greymond got complaints from a customer who had mysteriously received her laundry on her cat which was wearing 3 jumpers, a pair of boxers and 4 socks. Needless to say, Avis was sent to the customer's house with a coffee cake and a heartfelt apology.

Tristram, quite frankly, had a very simple and idyllic childhood. Clara and Magnus Drewitt, his parents and a pair of Hogwarts graduates, ran a fairly successful flower shop within the busy city of London. This afforded Tristram the opportunity to experience both magical and non-magical society given the business was frequented by both sides, the former mainly being his aunties and uncles (friends of his parents from school). Tristram loved them all, finding the ones who knew nothing about muggle life excitingly eccentric and was always glad to answer any odd question they brought along with them in exchange for the goings on of the wizarding world.
Despite his pureblood lineage, his parents held no particular bias and made certain to instill an open-minded view into Tristram, even enrolling him into muggle schooling to really seal the deal. This was carefully offset with regular visits to more 'normal' events like quidditch games and the like, never trying to hide his true heritage from him. Either way, his early childhood was a complete and utter blast.

Tristram's first instance of magic was protective in nature, occuring one early morning en route to school alongside some friends. Perhaps a bit more distracted than any kid should be whilst crossing the road, one of Tristram's friends; Lucilla, whom was several feet ahead of them and not exactly paying attention to traffic, was but a few seconds away from what would've been an unfortunate collision with a car. Mind full of frantic panic, Tristram throws a hand up in an attempt to warn her. Given the short distance between them, there was no way he could've reached her in time. The act paired with his desire to see his friend safe, sent the girl out of danger with a strong burst. There was some scraped knees, sure, but Lucilla was safe and that's what mattered. Only Tristram was aware of what had just occurred and relayed the news to his parents later that day after returning home from school. Their excitement had the boy swelling with pride.

- Tristram can't have gone to a Muggle school. He is a pureblood - the magical and non-magical worlds are kept separate. He would be homeschooled or privately tutored. Please edit his story to better reflect his blood status.

ReducioMy name is Katrina Maeve. I am an 11 year old Half-blood from London, England. My mother, Lily Maeve, is a wizard born healer. My father is a muggle author (part-time) and a biomedical scientist. They had 2 kids, myself and my older brother, James, who loves to annoy me half the time and overly protective for no reason the other half. Before Hogwarts, I was homeschooled by my parents and was not exposed to a full life of magic. My parents wanted my brother and I to learn daily tasks without the help of magic. I am an outgoing, confident and energetic kid, which is why I liked to keep myself busy or play with other kids in the neighborhood.
I am now a first-year Hufflepuff student, and I currently live in the cozy Badger Bungalow dorms. I've been doing well in all my classes, I've talked to other students and written a letter home. So far, this year has been going perfectly. My goal for this school year is to do great in all my classes, make many new friends, and just have fun. I have already joined 2 clubs, The Little Acts Of Kindness Club and the Drama Club. I hope that I can learn something, help others (whether it be by entertainment or something nice I do) and help myself get used to Hogwarts, make friends and get involved in events.

- Your backstory should be 220+ words about your character's story prior to Hogwarts, not what happened after she already got there.
- Please make sure that the backstory listed in your encyclopedia is the exact same as what you're applying for here. You can copy and paste it over to your encyclopedia when you're making the edits to add more about Katrina's story pre-Hogwarts.

Laurence's home is a small family home in the west of the city of Bradford, West yorkshire, UK. He grew up in a family consisting of three, including himself, his muggle mother Catalina, a teacher in a elementary school, and his wizard father Arthur, a magic historian. His mother originated from spain, and his father is native to the united kingdom. Despite being half spanish, he never learned to wrie it, only being able to speak it as far as his mother taught him. Sometimes his father would go on business trips into different regions of the UK or into different countries alltogether, and sometimes Laurence was allowed to travel with him, mostly in the vacation time. Those trips only fueled his hunger for knowledge, not feeling satisfied even when he had been into another country for two weeks or more. He did receive basic education in the prepschool for young wizards, but he wanted to know more, and he started to bombard his parents with questions about certain topics if he felt like what he learned in school wasn't enough. He got to know some aspects of the muggle world through his mother like planes, going to movies or drinking cocoa in a cafe. But he also learned about the magical world through school and his father, letting him experience things from both worlds.

Laurence had once written a letter to his father, who had been in overseas at the time. In the letter he had proposed a question that had been for hours on his mind, about a certain topic within the history of magic, and that question was for how long wizards and witches had existed. His father hadnt answered the question properly in the answer letter, dismissing it with the phrase "i dont really know, i have to read about it someday." Even though the answer itself wasnt bad, Laurence got frustrated. So frustrated, that a small phial of water he had kept there to make a simple microscope (using the different refractive properties of the water, his mother had explained to him) burst into pieces. Of course he and his mother got scared, and his father had to explain to everyone as he returned that it had been Laurence's first instance of magic. He was nine years old at that time.

Will was born in a little village in the Irish land among a very green landscape. Nature is its refugee. He loves spending time walking around without any other purpose than discovering new places. His favorite one is down a river where he can sit on a stone listening to the water running among the rocks.
Will has one little sister, Ellie, (4 years younger) that he loves more than everything. Him and his family have always been very close. Born in the warmth of a happy household, Will’s parents inherited a mansion from Will’s grandfather who died in the past years. They moved from the city to the countryside. But Will’s parent had still a job in the city that they couldn’t quit. That’s why they weren’t very available to raise their children. They hired a Nanny to look after them. Olga was the sweetest person they’d ever known. She watched over them as she was their own grandmother.
Will's mother comes from a pureblood family who didn't support the idea of their daughter marrying muggle. With Will's father, they raised their children both with and without magic. Will's father thought that sometimes the muggle-way could teach patience to his children. Most of the time they spent with their children they used magic but when they had to move in the city those times became more rare. Olga, their Nanny, doesn't have an ounce of magic in her. That's mostly how Will and Ellie learned the muggle lifestyle.

Will was plating around with his sister when suddenly their kite was stuck into the branches of a very high tree. Olga, who is a muggle, is very nice but also very old and she explained to the children she wouldn't be able to fetch it. Ellie burst into tears claiming the kite was her favorite and would probably be destroyed by the wind before their parents, who, once again, where out in the town, came home. Will felt so sorry for his sister. They tried different ways to catch it or make it fall but none of them succeed. Despite their Nanny strictly forbid it before, Will climbed into the tree. He was half way of the tree, proud with his sister's kite in the hands when he heard a loud "crack". The branch beneath him just fell and so did Will. He desperatly tried to cling to something but his hands were just slipping on little branches. As he was almost on the floor, he closed his eyes waiting for the impact. But nothing happened, he tried to open just one eye. Will didn't believe it. He was floating 10 cm above the floor. Speechless, and eyes wide open he had no time to think about what happened. The magic stopped and Will's cheek met the floor in a painful way.
