There is a quiet kind of courage in Phoenix Zhang — one that doesn’t clamor for attention or declare itself in obvious ways. She doesn’t chase danger, doesn’t speak just to be heard, and doesn’t mistake volume for power. But still, she is unflinching. Fear simply does not get to steer her decisions. It might knock on the door, but she never answers it.

For Phoenix, bravery is a discipline, not a reaction. It’s something honed — sharpened — through years of expectation and silence. She learned early on that fear wastes time. That the flutter in your chest doesn’t help you think faster, and the shaking of your hands doesn’t make your work more precise. So she trained herself not to tremble. Not to waver. And now, she doesn’t.

Where others pause before speaking up, she does not. If she believes something is wrong — in a book, in a lecture, in another student’s logic — she will say so. Clearly. Calmly. Without embellishment or apology. Her voice may not rise, but it cuts just as deep. She is not concerned with being liked. And she is certainly not afraid of being disliked.

This is a girl who will sit at the very front of a classroom and correct a Seventh Year if they’re wrong. Who will tell a professor that the historical framing in their lecture is colonialist without flinching. Who can walk into a room of whispering strangers and take the last empty chair without looking at any of them. Not because she wants to make a scene — she hates that. But because it needs to be done, and someone has to do it.

Phoenix doesn’t quake under pressure. When the world demands too much, she shuts it out and focuses harder. Her mind becomes stiller, clearer. The more tension in the room, the more composed she becomes — like a body of water freezing over. Her movements are minimal. Her tone, precise. There is no panicking, no pacing, no wasted energy. There is just action.

It would be easy to mistake her for emotionally detached, but that’s not the truth. She feels things deeply. She’s just learned not to show it. There is power in restraint. Strength in stillness. Phoenix knows that fear — like grief, or love, or anger — is something people try to weaponize against you. She refuses to give anyone the opening.

Even her solitude is an act of bravery. She does not cling to crowds. She does not shrink to fit a space. If anything, she seems more at home standing apart — unbothered by whispers, unshaken by absence. Many students feel adrift without belonging. Phoenix finds her edge in it. She doesn't perform for approval. She doesn’t shift her shape for comfort. She stands as she is: sharp, unsparing, and unapologetically certain.

This is what makes her terrifying in her own way — not in volume, but in precision. Not in defiance, but in indifference to fear. She will raise her hand when no one else dares to. She will ask the question no one else wants answered. She will walk into an unfamiliar place with her head held high and her heart steady.

To be fearless is not to be reckless. It is to be deliberate, and Phoenix Zhang is nothing if not deliberate. Her thoughts are blades honed by solitude. Her will is a kind of armor. And when she chooses to stand her ground, it is with the weight of a person who has never once considered turning back.

Avis grew up with two older siblings, specifically one being an older brother who had at least five years on her, not to mention height, strength, etc, and was extremely competitive. Unfortunately, both siblings were passionate about Quidditch (Avis having gained that from her father and brother as a matter of fact), which meant that matches and practice and short scrimmages were always taking place in the garden, not to mention every other shenanigan they’d get up to that required competition. Will needed the practice after all, seeing as he was on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team by the time Avis was 7 and besides a few friends who had their own busy lives, Avis was the prime practice dummy. After more than a few lost matches, with mild injuries to boot, the young girl found herself at a large disadvantage when it came to competing with her older brother and Avis, being as competitive as she was, simply could not accept losing in such a manner, rather losing at all. She was getting better every day but it was never enough to beat her far more experienced brother. The only other option? A loss of morals for just a moment. She had to resort to cheating. Avis learned that this tactic worked from a young age, when she began adding extra points, sneaking false rules in and altogether being a menace, in order to win at least a few games or matches against Will. As she grew, she got smarter and more physical and these mental cheats became brute force cheats, especially when they were on brooms. Her cheating only increased when Will let her play scrimmage matches with him and his friends, who were all older than her by a good 5 years as mentioned before. Avis had to gain an upper hand somehow because being a 10 year old Chaser in a 1v1 situation with a nasty fifth year (with little regard for weaker individuals) proved to end up being more painful than fun. So she mastered it all: blagging, blatching, and cobbing were only a few of the skills she learned before she reached Hogwarts. She wasn’t proud of it and it did tend to nip at her morality after matches, but the feeling of winning, especially over boys, surged over the guilt and to make herself feel better, she told herself that Will was probably cheating a bit anyway. After all, what’s a good match of any sort of game without a bit of foul play?

Calm.

If you asked Mylo's parents to describe them that would always be one of the words they would use, along with a plethora of others but almost always they would revolve around their tendency to be mindful of others. If people needed someone to listen to them Mylo would be there to lend an ear, if they needed help understanding a certain problem once again Mylo would sit down patiently with them and explain it as many times as was necessary for the other person to understand, hardly every loosing their cool in those situations.

During their two years at Hogwarts Mylo was mindful of others, always keeping their needs in mind and trying their best to do what was necessary to help the other students if that was required of him. Becoming a prefect meant that that requirement got upped to always being there, helping where necessary and making sure that everyone who needed it got help, making sure that everything stayed as calm as possible. Although he didn't like confrontation they wouldn't shy away from standing up for those who needed it, and would try their best to calm any situation down if it called for it.

It also showed often at home before they came to Hogwarts, their younger sister Andrea was the complete opposite of Mylo as she would be constantly bouncing around and getting herself into trouble in any way she could. But more often than not Mylo would manage to keep her semi- under control, being able to talk her down from attacking another kid for insulting her crocs or from seeing if she could fly as well by jumping off a low hanging branch in a tree (she was, and still is, an absolute menace).

They could often be found together, just talking about everything and nothing or trying to on-up each other with made up stories that they'd tell, a comfortable feeling of calmness often accompanying the two of them as they would talk.

Because when everyone was calm things just went better, although Mylo themselves wasn't always calm, overthinking constantly, they made sure that they were when it was necessary and when others needed them to be.

And that's why people might feel more calm around him, if they knew him they'd know Mylo would do anything in their power to help them. If not they'd soon find out that that would be the case.

If you were to ask about Atlas Anderson, he was a pure prodigy. He learned the wand work behind how to cast perfect charms without flinching and he's probably flash a sly smile and say, "why wait when you can teach yourself?"

From the earliest days at Hogwarts, Atlas had demonstrated a fierce commitment to mastering spell work and beyond his grade level, his understanding of charms is no accident—it is the result of his dedication, relentless self-instruction and insatiable hunger to prove he can outpace the expectations placed upon him. Most students stick to being taught in class but Atlas is not wired that way. He is taken it on himself to dig deeper and read ahead beyond the syllabus. What drives him is not just curiosity, it is the determination to grow on his own terms and prove just how far he can push his boundaries of what he is taught. Atlas is already three steps ahead.

There weren't any fancy tutors waiting at home to guide Atlas and his family supported magic, sure, but it was Atlas who went out of his way to ensure he was equipped, especially after purchasing Book of Spells by Book of Spells by Miranda Goshawk at Diagon Alley. Other times, he would sneak read under his covers with nothing but his wand tip for light. He did not wait for classes to begin, he practiced alone, and he once spent less than two weeks, attempting to master a spell he read about. What makes Atlas stand out isn't just knowing the spells, it is how he cast them with so much understanding, even when reciting incantations, it is done with intent. What sets Atlas' approach apart and makes him so undeniably Slytherin, is the strategy behind it. He is not learning for praises or attention, but every bit of spell crafting he perfects is part of a bigger plan. For him, mastering charms is how he aims to dominate duels, earn the kind of respect that sticks and stay sharp in moments where magic gets messy. He does not practice just to say he did it—he practices with precision, purpose and future in mind. Every spell is another move toward kind of wizard he is becoming.

His dedication to self-train hasn't just sharpened his skills, it has shaped who he is and he got this confidence about him, the kind that does not need to be shown off. He keeps his cool even when things around him gets messy and he knows how to think on his feet when things take unexpected turns. Certain professors have picked up on that and while his peers might find things intimidating, he takes them on without being challenged. He also assists his peers when they need assistance.

At the heart of it, Atlas is the definition of talent and he is usually one step ahead. He didn't wat for someone to teach him some charms work but through studying, sharp discipline and almost intuitive grasp of spellwork, he is carved out his own magical path.

There was a familiar swooping sensation blooming deep in her chest as she closes her eyes and tips to the side. A gust of air brushes just past her head, signalling her success in timing. Avery floats upside down for just a moment longer on the broom before twisting and righting herself in the air once more. Her grip on the familiar wooden handle relaxes only slightly upon sitting upright once more.

The captain turns her head towards the temporary adversary darting through the air in the distance, the bludger swooping and spinning of its own magicked regard after the near miss. Or, perhaps, perfectly timed dodge. Avery allows a small smile to break free as she watches it realign and start back in her direction once more.

As she watches it, she can't help but think back to when she first started playing the suprisingly violent sport. At the time, she hadn't quite grasped what she was signing up for. Still learning the ins and outs of magic culture and the shock of being in such a strange new environment had driven the decision. A mix of wanting to learn more about the wizarding world and also find a better sense of community with her peers. A success in both accounts, so it turned out.

Avery braces atop her broom as the bludger nears once more. Mentally counting down, she narrows her eyes slightly and twists at the last second out of the way of her magical practice partner. Another, wider, grin breaks free at the ease with which the instinct has come. As she turns to watch the bludger once more, she takes the brief reprieve to return to her thoughts amidst the otherwise peaceful practice pitch.

That first year? Successful as the team had been, she couldn't deny the fear and the nerves that accompanied every match. The fear of failure in front of the eyes of her peers not to mention the school at large. The fear of the bludger itself even as she practiced again and again to work on dodging or redirecting whenever she had to put herself in the line of fire. To mixed results, many times. The fear of older, stronger players bearing down upon weaker opponents that they perceived as any potential threat to winning a game. It had been a lot. Especially those first few years.

Time and practice again, and again, and again, had helped the now captain to train and overcome at least the vast majority of those fears and doubts however. Not to mention the support of her friends and team behind her. As the bludger closed in once more this time, the grin remains. A quick mental calculation and Avery allows her eyes to close once more. She counts silently within her thoughts, hands and legs tensed around the broom. At the last second she allows, a twist and pull and the bludger once more soars overhead.

A delighted laugh rings across the empty field.

Growing up surrounded by muggles meant Charlie was not exposed to a wizarding sport she would soon grow to love, Quidditch. What she did grow up with was ice hockey. Charlie poured her soul into her sport and her team, constantly training herself off and on the ice to become better. The older she got, the deeper her love for the game grew. While she wasn’t the fastest or the best at dodging hits from the opponents, she was good enough.

When Charlie was forced to leave her beloved sport and attend a magical boarding school, she was devastated. Sure, she was excited to learn, but not to leave her friends, coaches and team. But when she arrived at Hogwarts and learned about a popular wizarding sport, Quidditch, she saw it as a new opportunity. So, in the winter of her first year, she signed up for a beater position, mostly because of how similar it was to what she did in her old sport. But after watching her first match, she quickly changed her mind and swapped out bashing bludgers for guarding the three golden hoops. Finally, in May of her first year, she was moved up to be Ravenclaw’s starting keeper.

As soon as she was on the team, Charlie began to train herself to be better at what she now had to do. Block the quaffle from entering the goals. She practiced her hand eye coordination and reaction times in order to better herself for her team.

In the spring Quidditch match of Charlie's third year, she was hit by a rogue bludger. The bludger had ricocheted off of an opponent and she had been too slow to get out of the way in time. This injury was a rude awakening, it had never really occurred to her that bludgers could hit any of the players, even the ones distracted by trying to prevent the other team from scoring. Suddenly, she became aware that good enough wasn’t good enough anymore. While she wasn't severely injured, she took a trip to the hospital wing to treat her bruises, aches and pains. She knew she needed to work on her evasive maneuvers to help herself and her team. So, when she was fully recovered, Charlie made her way onto the pitch. She released rouge bludgers and flew around with the quaffle, practicing more like a chaser than a keeper. She continued practicing with both bludgers and quaffles flying at her, stopping the quaffles but dodging the bludgers. Charlie kept practicing throughout the summer, pouring all of her spare time into practicing to dodge bludgers and catch quaffles.

Slowly but surely, she began to develop a sense to get out of the way when something bad was coming her way. Charlie noticed stronger reflexes that helped her block more shots and faster reflexes. By the beginning of her fourth year, she felt more prepared than ever to help her team be the best they could be.

Eun-ji was feeling uneasy. She felt too idle and for some reason, it made her feel guilty. Sure, she was still attending the ballet seminar but other than that, there was not much going on. The Ravenclaw had finished all her summer assignments shortly after she came back home and was already regretting it. She enjoyed studying but she liked to have structure and know where to start rather than dive into the materials mindlessly. Still, at some point she couldn’t bear it anymore and did exactly that.

Thus came the evening when Eun-ji sat with her books sprawled all over the dining table and did her best to sponge as much of the knowledge hidden in them as she possibly could on her own. “Do you need help?” A familiar tone carried across the room; kind yet filled with hesitancy. The sort of nervousness one would hardly expect from a mother. Eun-ji was about to refuse purely on instinct, but she managed to stop herself last minute. No matter how strained their relationship was, she shouldn’t allow that to be a disadvantage in her studies, right?

Probably sensing her daughter’s hesitation, Eleanor tried throwing in another bargaining chip. “Or you could accompany me to work and learn there. You always loved doing that.” Yes, the young witch really enjoyed visiting her parents’ respective workplaces but it had been some time since she last visited St Mungo with her mother. It’s not like the other woman didn’t know why but Eun-ji felt generous tonight and decided not to point that out. Elanor was offering an olive branch and for once, she didn’t feel the need to snap it in half immediately. “I don’t know if it’s a good idea.” It was not a straight up refusal but she was still hesitant. Even at home, the two of them grew rather uncomfortable with each other so spending a whole shift with her mom didn’t sound all that appealing.

“You don’t have to follow me the whole day. I could ask some of my colleagues to teach you a thing or two. There are several that enjoy guiding young witches and those that still remember you, keep asking me when you’ll show up again.” Right…now that seemed like a good compromise to Eun-ji. Besides, she was bitter about her mother not spending time with her so it would be highly hypocritical of her to refuse. “Alright. That sounds fair. It’s not like I have anything better to do anyway.” As those words left her mouth, the young witch saw a flicker of something that resembled relief in Eleanor’s eyes but she pretended not to see.

And so, the remaining time before the summer camp suddenly became extremely busy for her. On the days Eun-ji didn’t practice or teach ballet, she would follow her mother to St. Mungo’s and observe hers and her colleagues’ work. They would show her many spells, both the healing ones and those that caused the injuries. In the evening, the two women would then sit down and Eleanor would teach her daughter about the charms that awaited Eun-ji in her final year of study. Their shared love for this particular subject made the process of learning extremely smooth and the Ravenclaw even slowly started feeling less uncomfortable around her mother.

“Thank you,” Eun-ji said to the older woman before leaving. “Thanks to you I will have one less subject to worry about this year.” Maybe she’d even take OWLs, although that was a huge maybe. “I’ll see you next summer. Take care of yourself.” She added curtly before leaving their home without waiting for an answer.

Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
Winnie stared blankly ahead out of the window of her grandparent's magical bookstore as her grandmother, Orla Harper, passed her an oblong wand box. Orla's lips pulled into a thin line when her granddaughter didn't move to pick up the box.

She took the box off and pushed it closer to the Ravenclaw, "Winnie, please..." Orla whispered, "Your mother told me you have refused to accept anything your father left for you in the will."

At the mention of her father's death, Winnie stiffened. Soft blue eyes finally flickered down to look at the box in front of her, an ornate wooden box that looked at least a century old. "He never cared about me when he was alive, why should I accept gifts from just just because he's dead?"

Her grandmother flinched at her comment, but swallowed whatever she truly wanted to say. "Because this is different. It's a family heirloom. It belonged to your Great-Great-Great Grandmother, Winifred Harper."

"What? No, that's my name." The Ravenclaw reminded Orla, her voice laced with confusion as she gazed down at the wand's intricate carvings. Tiny flowers had been carved into the smooth willow wood.

"I know, you were named after her," Orla said, her eyes softening as she watched Winnie pick up the wand to examine it, "Although Fergus never mentioned anyone calling his grandmother 'Winnie', it was just Winifred." She glanced towards an older man who was dozing in one of the kitchen chairs. Her great-grandfather, her grandfather's father. She had played with him a lot as a child but these days all he did was sleep.

Winnie waved the wand, although she couldn't use it for magic over summer break she felt a sort of pull towards the magical instrument. "This wand isn't really something Dad would have used, why was it in his possession?"

"It was always meant to be yours," Her grandmother explained, a small smile curving onto her lips, "Fergus gave it to your father when you were born, I'm unsure why he didn't give it to you before your first year at Hogwarts."

Winnie's lips pulled into a tight line. She knew why, it was because her father didn't want her to go to Hogwarts in the first place and then had abandoned Winnie and her mother months later. Still, she wasn't going to bring that up right now.

She swallowed hard as she stared down at the wand, trying to ignore the stinging of tears in her eyes. "It's beautiful, Grandma, thank you." She squared her shoulders to straighten her posture, "I'll take it... But...I don't think I'm ready to accept anything else."

Orla nodded her head, reaching across the kitchen table to take Winnie's hand in her own, "I understand, Flower. Take the wand, give it time and we can talk about your father's will another day."

Word Count: 475/400
Wand Wood: Willow
Willow chooses owners who have 'insecurities' or who are 'unsure' of themselves, and since Winnie's memory has been erased time and time again she no longer knows who she really is. She has struggled with low self worth since her father abandoned her. She also is on the path to become a healer and the wand is good with healing spells.
(Word Count: 61/50)

Wand Core: Phoenix Feather
This wand is attracted to 'enduring' or 'stubborn' wizards. Despite only being 16 years of age, Winnie has endured quite a bit of hardship in her life. Her father abandoning her and her mother, Mathias erasing her memory time and time again to keep her in a relationship with him, being pushed off the owlery tower and almost dying, having to stay in the psych ward for some time after that, her father being murdered, and being married at a young age.
(Word Count: 82/50)

Wand Length: 27.94 cm (11 inches)
Winnie's wand length is average by traditional standards but tends to lean more towards the longer side. Despite her short physical stature Winnie has always possessed a fiery spirit and a big personality. She often makes herself known due to her tendency to yell and jump to conclusions. It has gotten her in trouble before.
(Word Count: 55/50)

Wand Flexibility: Springy
Although Winnie is stubborn by nature, she has had quite a few changes in her life since coming to Hogswarts. Because of this, she has needed to adapt to her surroundings relatively quickly. The most recent thing has been her engagement to Mathias Pride, a pureblood wizard. There are a lot of new societal norms placed on Winnie during this time, and she has had to adapt relatively quickly.
Dogs have claws but they tend to not be as sharp as say a cat's, therefore taking the less powerful claw action seemed more logical. A dog's bite is strong enough to do a lot of damage and perhaps their biggest defense weapon. Tollers are athletic and built to help their owner hunt and retrieve prey.

Already at six years old, Sebastian showed a great potential and natural talent for transfiguration. His first instance of magic was centered around manipulating his own appearance, changing his brown, boring hair to a perfect shade of platinum blonde in front of the mirror. His obsession with appearances and aesthetics had already begun. Sebastian doesn't have a lot of ambitions for his life, but one thing is for sure. He wants to make money, and he wants to be surrounded by beauty. Where he comes from, a world of superficial celebrities and models, plastic surgery and enhancements are the norm. Sebastian could never be a doctor! He would have to study for years at muggle university for that. That's too much work for something he's not interested in. There must be a magical alternative, he began thinking early.

While not a fully fledged plan yet, he's already started to consider his options for the future. What if he made people pretty for money? The main reason would not be to help or express himself, but to make money. In the future, his name will be whispered about in discreet but exclusive circles. Whispers between the insecure and the rich- those willing to pay to become something they're not. Sebastian will not only be able to change peoples looks, he will make a living out of it.

After his first year and attending transfiguration classes, he’s started to experiment in secret by working on subtle, beauty-enhancing transfigurations based on what he found in his transfiguration textbooks. Maybe one day he'd manage to ceeate his own beauty-enchancing spells. He’d already memorized half of the textbook, not because he had to, but because he wanted to test some spells on a photo of his least favorite cousin. Seeing if he can teach himself to smooth out skin textures, reshaping cheekbones and stuff like that. He even keeps a little (pink of course) leather-bound notebook filled with trial spells, sketches, and notes about proportion, symmetry, and magical material limits. Most times they fail. Sometimes they backfire. Good thing the photo was ugly anyway.

His natural talent, along with sheer determination, his goal is to learn enough to start offering services for money. Experimenting at first, some galleons here and there from a friend who wants to get rid of their acne. Sooner or later, his "services" will be desirable. Someone might want a smaller nose, someone else wants to look like a certain celebrity. Sebastian will listen, adjust and deliver with the right amount of pity required for the client to feel secure and never judged. In secret he absolutely judges them.

Sebastian might not be good at a lot, but this is one of the things he feels like he excels at. It's not random, it's the plan. When Seb sets his mind to something, he doesn't give up. Slow and steady wings the race, or something like that. Not when money and riches, and beauty are at stake.

- We currently do not allow creating spells, which 'subtle, beauty-enhancing transfigurations no textbook has ever taught' would fall under. Please remove this or edit this.
- Additionally, please bear in mind that any magic Sebastian is stated to be doing would have to align with the spells currently in his inventory.

Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: Fearless
Describe why this fits your character:

Usually one might think of a fearless person as someone who takes a logical approach to unsettling situations, someone whose pride and courage outweigh their worries or someone who faces their horror and overcomes it.
There are certainly different ways to reasonably lose one’s fright. For example, when you’re confronted by someone whose very presence feels like watching a horror movie alone at night, or when you’re caught in a life-or-death situation with a spider sitting in its web right over the doorway you have no choice but to walk through. Maybe it’s also standing in front of the class to present a topic you only read about minutes before, silently begging that the teacher won't ask any questions you know you can’t answer.
Overcoming fear through exposure or logic is certainly possible.

But for Novalie, there has simply never been a situation like that.
She has never really feared anything, so she never needed to overcome it.
It isn’t because of a particularly reasonable personality (which, in all honesty, is anything but reasonable), nor because someone taught her how to breathe through panic and keep calm. It’s rather a trait she has been born with.
Logic and common sense are two things Novalie thoroughly lacks.
From asking Dhampirs to bite her, to jumping into creature-infested waters, volunteering herself as target practice for someone with a bow, or arranging a full-on chicken sacrifice ritual in the Ravenclaw Head of House’s office (all of these things actually happened in RP), there isn’t a hint of fear that makes Novalie hesitate at all. She doesn’t think twice about consequences, nor does she believe in any evil intentions.
If an eerie creature was ever to approached her in the dead of night, Novalie would probably try to pet it - and consider herself lucky to get the chance. In situations like these, it’s not like she feels nothing when faced with something unsettling. Quite the opposite in fact: there’s a thrill that shivers down her spine, a curious excitement to see what will happen next. Someone threatening to jinx her? Please do! Standing at the edge of a cliff? Let’s jump!

With this attitude, Novalie has already driven some of her friends to their limits with concern. More than once, they’ve had to physically stop her because her sense of self-preservation was, in those moments at least, practically nonexistent.
Novalie is, without a doubt, someone you would call fearless.
