I’m not surpised the french version banned orphan characters. Only mild sad backstories are allowed.

Anyway, Lizzie is a special child because she has yet to experience trauma meaning all of these adventures are going to hit home more than it should.

Orphanages are a thing in America. From experience of going to one when I went on holiday there. However in England they aren’t called that and are called care homes. They also aren’t forced to do stuff like most orphanages because are portrayed.

Traditional orphanages do not exist in the regions that Hogwarts serves either. However, both parents dying does mean that someone is an orphan. A lot of websites in my experience ban orphans and creating abusive and traumatic backgrounds because the edge is just... well, it is something else and it rarely truly contributes to the character. Edginess does not necessarily make a character better or more interesting. Often more experienced role players omit the list of traumas or psychiatric conditions, but those that do keep them usually make that trauma or condition a central part of their character. There is nothing wrong with losing both parents as part of a backstory, however if you are just doing it to do it... well, there are likely better things that can be used to develop a character.

Hopefully *crosses fingers* no one took offense to what I said. I was just... stating my opinion. I personally, would like to see more characters that do have a happier back story. However, I literally am in love with most of the ones that are 'orphans' or have traumatic lives.
